I just finished another 24th scale prehistoric sculpture. This one is of Polycotylus latipinnis, a plesiosaur, from art I found online by Gabriel Ugueto. The animal was 16 feet long so the model is 8 inches. The body is foam covered in paper mache' and red-spot-and-glazing putty. The flippers and skull are Apoxie putty over plastic card (FOR SALE signs from Walmart.) This one took me about two and a half weeks.

Now, on to the next project.  >:D

Great work! the coloration is really nice.

Looks fantastic, especially the detailing on the base. Love the little nautiloids too.

Neosodon

The base and coloration really take it to a whole other level. The way the paint is applied looks so awesome. ^-^

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

This is a beautiful work :D The color is nice and the sculpt is smooth. The display base really gives atmosphere to the model.

Fantastic work!  It was great even before the base, but now it's really phenomenal!  ;D

ceratopsian

Beautiful work and a clever base to set the model off.

Silvanusaurus

It's absolutely beautiful! With the colour and smoothness it reminds me of the Schleich Shonisaurus, but this really looks like a real animal, very well done!

Thank you for all the kind words!  :))

I think this one is the best I've done so far. But I think Gabriel's art had a lot to do with it. I don't think I've ever had a project with such a clear goal and image in my mind. My wife will tell you that I'm good at endlessly waffling about how to paint my prehistorics.  :P

Now. Which idea will I work on next?  ::)

In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

I forgot to take a picture of Polly with Fred.

Fred is a Preiser figure that is near enough to 24th scale to give you a sense of the size of these animals. I'm glad I found him. Now if only I could find a scuba diver.

This came out looking wonderful! Great job, it really has a believable vibe to it. Very whale like :)

Impressive, all that floating majesty....I like the color scheme, would be a great partner for Schleich's Shonisaurus and CollectA's Kronosaurus.

Lovely stuff. The pose, coloration, and non-shrinkwrapping make it look very natural, as if it could scull right off the base.

I wish there were "Like" buttons for all of these responses. Thank you all for your kind words!  :))

I agree about the shrink-wrapping that appears in so much paleo art. It gets on my nerves sometimes. I shudder to think what modern animals would look like if their skeletons were treated like a dinosaur's.
