I'll look at the Velociraptors but I think I'm edging towards the 2008 CollectA rex, because it is a rex, it is ten years old, the pose is striking and convenient for the banner, and I can put a party hat on it. :P So, I'm looking for something to balance it out, that isn't CollectA. I'm considering the Safari Ltd Ankylosaurus (easy to put a hat on that) and the Papo Acrocanthosaurus repaint.

I would be fine with the banner having only 2018 figures.  Though if it's going to have figures from 2008 and 2018, I think it would be good to avoid having a poor 2008 figure just to show how improved the 2018 figure is, and instead have figures from both 2008 and 2018 that would be nice choices in the banner.  I think the banner would look weird if it has both the 2008 CollectA T. rex and the Papo Acrocanthosaurus repaint, as they are both in a bending down pose.

I take back my previous suggestion and go with the Papo Acrocanthosaurus and the Collecta Iguanodon. I think they make a nice pair chromatically speaking, they have perfect poses to fit the graphic, and are the right guys! The Acrocanthosaurus is a big, bad carnivore, while the Iguanodon is an iconic herbivore. The blog anniversary might be easily acknowledged with a third line on the banner stating "2008-2018 10th anniversary".

PNSO.

TRex "Wilson" and Triceratops "Doyle"

The two best figures of 2017.

I've never really thought about it before but how old is the dinosaur toy forum or when exactly was it founded?

Based on my various scrambles through the v1 archive (despite not being a v1 member), I've found out that the DTF was founded on January 26, 2008.

Next year will be the DTF's tenth anniversary, perhaps a commemorative banner would be appropriate?

This would be a good idea, but what should we put on the commemorative banner?

You're quite right about the date: http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=571.msg176585#msg176585

So, maybe we should do something special with the banner. Any ideas?

How about 10 figures, one from each year [sorry if someone else suggested this, I haven't read the last several replies], in order from left to right...maybe the elected figure of the year (if there is one for each year). But I think one from each year would be fun, esp if earlier ones were unfeathered or otherwise inaccurate

If one from each year is chosen, I'd like to see good figures from each year, instead of poorly done figures from earlier years.  I think each of these years has had great figures that are worth remembering and deserve a place in the banner, as well as bad figures.  I don't see the appeal of trying to make earlier years look worse and recent years look better by choosing bad and good figures from each respectively.

I agree, but I don't see the point of searching for the worst figures of earlier years and the best figures of later years. Figures of earlier years, regardless of whether they are considered the best or worst of those years, are generally worse than those of later years (at least for the most respected companies on the forum).

the reason I suggested less accurate figures was not because they are bad, but rather to track the progress in figure quality and accuracy as we learn more about these critters.

If we just choose figures from the last decade than the earlier figures like from Invicta, Starlux, Marx and fellows besides most of the Carnegie or Kaiyodo figures will drop out of the possibilities straightaway. In my opinion we shouldn't narrow the range of figures that much. The blog and the forum is a place for the older figures too not just the new ones.

And we can choose more figures because the blog and the forum have different figures for banner now too but didn't find a thread about the blog's banner.

Simon

I realize that it JUST (literally) came out, but the Vitae Giganotosaurus is the best figure of 2017.  I think it rates a spot on the new banner (unless Adam goes with the "Anniversary Banner" idea, which would presumably have a lot of past critters instead).

Anyhow, just wanted to put in a plug for that Giga.  Its absolutely gorgeous (as is the HUGE base) ...

Edit: I think a better idea would be to make a banner like the one that was made for the time the forum was first launched. Regardless of it being best of 2008-2018, inaccurate 2008 figure vs accurate 2018 figure, or just 2018 highly anticipated releases.
http://dinotoyblog.com/2008/01/27/announcement-dinosaur-toy-forum/

I would love to see one of the BotM figures up on that banner (probably the Velociraptor). I mean these are a first time type of thing (highly detailed, highly articulated feathered dromaeosaurid action figures). I do think the suggestions of the CollectA Iguanodon, Estemmenosuchus, or Brontosaurus, Safari Ltd Anzu, Triceratops, or American Mastodon, and Papo Acrocanthosaurus would be interesting choices if going for the two figure thing.

I also like the suggestion of the 2008 - 2018 banner idea, but I think having a highlight figure of 2008 with a highlight figure of 2018 would be a good idea, instead of doing the outdated vs new thing. Like the Papo Allosaurus (as an example) with one of those highly anticipated 2018 figures.

Another suggestion would be to have the first figure reviewed on the blog in 2008, and the first figure reviewed on the blog in 2018.

From what I could find... The first figure reviewed on the blog in 2008 is the Walking with Dinosaurs Ankylosaurus: http://dinotoyblog.com/2008/01/04/ankylosaurus-walking-with-dinosaurs-collection-toyway/  And the first figure ever reviewed on the blog is this Schleich Triceratops: http://dinotoyblog.com/2007/07/14/triceratops-schleich/

I don't know if there are any deleted reviews that preceded these.  I don't think being the "first" reviewed in 2008, 2018, etc. would necessarily make a figure a good choice for the banner though.

Faelrin

Good point. It would make for a pretty interesting coincidence if the first review for 2018 was the 2018 Safari Ltd Ankylosaurus though. So yeah maybe some of the other options would be better.

DinoToyForum

It is done! Ten years this month. Wow.

sauroid

*i love the new banner*

congratulations on the tenth year of this beloved forum
"you know you have a lot of prehistoric figures if you have at least twenty items per page of the prehistoric/dinosaur section on ebay." - anon.

ceratopsian

Excellent new banner!

And I echo Sauroid's congratulations.  Ten years is no mean feat on the ephemeral internet.  Thank you, "dinotoyforum", for all the hard work you've put into our home.  It's brought me a lot of enjoyment and information in the couple of years I've been a member.

ITdactyl

..and what an awesome decade it has been.

*BOOM!!!*

Awesome banner!!!  A+++++  ;D ;D ;D

I'm thinking that the block lettering and the 2-dinosaur "bookends" looks good as a template for all future banners.

The older banners with a lot of smaller critters just look, well, "too busy".

This design has ... shall we say, a certain "gravitas" to it!   8) 8) 8)

Lanthanotus

Thumbs up for banner and the DTF, a solid rock in the tides and floods of the internet! ( Isdare say that, though I am just here for two years or so :P)

Ravonium

Well Admin, this is a good banner of choice for the tenth anniversary of this forum.

Thanks for taking the time to construct this place for us collectors to share information pertaining to this hobby and to paleontology, from one of the newest regulars here  :)
