We had a sauropod this year, it would feel repetitive to have another one immediately afterwards.

I suggest the Wild Safari Anzu for the dinosaur, and though I don't love it the CollectA Estemmenosuchus makes sense for the non-dinosaur.

if only two figures, I second Stars' choices

Next year will be the DTF's tenth anniversary, perhaps a commemorative banner would be appropriate?

This is a great idea!

I've never really thought about it before but how old is the dinosaur toy forum or when exactly was it founded?

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

Based on my various scrambles through the v1 archive (despite not being a v1 member), I've found out that the DTF was founded on January 26, 2008.

This would be a good idea, but what should we put on the commemorative banner?

You're quite right about the date: http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=571.msg176585#msg176585

So, maybe we should do something special with the banner. Any ideas?

What about a few weeks with some 2008 models on the left and some 2018 models on the right?

Maybe with birthday hats.

That would be interesting, especially if they were the same species (if possible) so we could see the progress.

Are there any where the 2008 version of the species has scales, while the 2018 version has feathers?

Mojo Deinonychus maybe?

Looking at the DTB page that lists the new for 2008 prehistoric figures ( http://dinotoyblog.com/2008/09/22/dinosaur-figures-for-2008-a-review/ ), there is a species which has scales in the 2008 version and feathers in the 2018 version...  And it's also by the same company and the same type of figure!  It's CollectA's Deluxe T. rex for 2008 and 2018.

Well spotted! Shame the 2018 T. rex appears to be one of their weaker figures.

There's a Safari Velociraptor in 2008 and one "feathered" by Schleich coming in 2018, but I don't think anybody wants that on the banner.

ZoPteryx

There's also Safari's Triceratops from 2008 vs 2018.

If just considering improved species and not companies, then some other options include:

                          2008 vs 2018

Amargasaurus CollectA vs Safari
Baryonyx        CollectA vs Mojo
Ankylosaurus  CollectA vs Safari

Could be a rough banner for CollectA.  :))

Good suggestions. There's also Papo Allosaurus 2008 and Kaiyodo Allosaurus skeleton 2018. No fleshed out 2018 Allosaurus though (yet).

Visually speaking, the pose of the CollectA 2008 T. rex would work really well. But the new one wouldn't. I also think a different company would be better. But the other rexes for 2018 are all pretty poor... I don't want to be looking at that new Schleich monstrosity every time I log in! hmmm...

He he!  When I saw it was CollectA's deluxe T. rex figures that matched what you asked for, I did think this probably wouldn't be the huge improvement one would expect from "species with scales in the 2008 version and feathers in the 2018 version"! :))

I wouldn't want either in the banner, I find them both unpleasant figures.  Especially the Schleich, which is yet another case of Schleich making an ugly copy of characters from the JP franchise, rather than making a figure of a real dinosaur.  The 2008 Safari Velociraptor is featherless even though it was already known for many years dromaeosaurids had feathers (the Carnegie Microraptor was released years earlier), and it has pronated hands.  The Bullyland Velociraptor that was also released in 2008 doesn't have either of those flaws, and shows a higher standard for reconstructing Velociraptor than the 2008 Safari (and the 2018 Schleich).

Well that's the point: one being featherless and outdated and the other updated, but the "updated" one is very bad and inaccurate still).

What about one of the Beasts of the Mesozoic figures? You could place it opposite the Wild Safari 2008 Velociraptor, which is nice but outdated (and yeah, outdated even when it was released).

That's a good idea, I completely forgot those  :-[, if it's like this I think it should be Velociraptor against Velociraptor.

DinoToyForum

I'll look at the Velociraptors but I think I'm edging towards the 2008 CollectA rex, because it is a rex, it is ten years old, the pose is striking and convenient for the banner, and I can put a party hat on it. :P So, I'm looking for something to balance it out, that isn't CollectA. I'm considering the Safari Ltd Ankylosaurus (easy to put a hat on that) and the Papo Acrocanthosaurus repaint.
