Back to what I was discussing earlier with Simon, I think he's right that the Stegosaurus from TLW toy line was better than this new one by Mattel, probably just because of the "real feel" rubber skin and the paintjob, whereas Mattel's looks too plastic-y. But seeing the direct comparison in the previous video between the two Carnotaurus makes even clearer how the Mattel one is totally screen accurate, while the old Kenner's "Demon" is at chinasaur level of quality!

CityRaptor

Mattel's Stegosaurus is probably going to age better than the TLW Stego.

As for the Mini Dinosaurs.
Those look pretty nice for such small figures. Sure they are not on level of Kaiyodo and other japanese companies, but still nice. Also seems like they are not blind-bagged at all.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Reptilia

Yes, an incredible level of detail for such tiny figures. Look at the raptor's head, is perfect. I might get Blue and the Dilophosaurus, if they are easy to obtain when released.

tanystropheus

The NEW Allosaurus is pretty bad, especially when compared to its predecessor.

Reptilia

Well, the 2013 Allosaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus were quite an exception in the JP toys realm. In fact they were David Silva's works, if I'm not mistaken. Or for predecessor you mean the JW basher & biter? Still I think that this Allosaurus is more screen accurate than most of Kenners.

I think Kenner is the JP equivalent of Battat, more or less.

I tend to agree from a "cool toy to play with" standpoint. But another thing to consider is in this increasingly litigious society we live in, where people are eating detergent & kids are swallowing pieces of fidget spinners, these toy companies are always competing to make desirable products that will be in demand, but also made from the safest materials. Those rubbery toys may pose a higher risk for liability. I mean, I grew up knowing better than to eat rubber, but that was 25+ yrs ago. So while I definitely feel those original Kenner action figures were the golden standard in quality, these new Mattel make a close second. I can't wait to play with, ....er, I mean....get one for my kids.  ;)

Reptilia

Oh yes, the rubber "real feel" skin was better only from an aesthetic point of view.

I like how the The Fallen Kingdom film gives homage to Papo's JP products  >:D
There's literally a scene with Papo toys in it.

The Mattel Stego looks fine to me, it's been quite a while since a decent sized license JP Stego.
Just wish that it's paint scheme was more true to it's movie counterpart, with the orange and black banded plates.

As for the minis, they're a lot better than expected! Not going to purchase a whole bunch of these myself, but I'm definitely looking forward to use them as infant specimens. A real shame that Postosuchus and Apatosaurus (and iirc a brachiosaurus?) are restricted to only being minis...

One more thing, according to Jurassic Podcast #69, we might see a Dimetrodon exclusive. Really eager to see how Mattel handles this infamous synapsid, seeing as how both Safari and CollectA has produced amazing figures of the genus this very year.
A little far fetched maybe, but I really hope Mattel will make obscure critters like Kenner did back in the day with Tanystropheus, Lycaenops, Estemmenosuchus etc.

I am really digging the articulation and even the action features on both the Carnotaurus and Stegosaurus (and color schemes too I might add). I find it interesting that both size up pretty comparably to Kenner's figures.  I suppose this means the Kenner TLW Parasaurolophus might fit in fine scale wise with this lineup (if I can only just buy one soon). I also don't mind the fact this figure (or really most of the them) is plastic at all, even though the rubbery skin stuff is pretty interesting (at least the Mosasaurus has it though). Thanks for sharing the reviews Chris. I'm looking forward to the one with the Thrash and Throw Tyrannosaurus.

Those mini figures seem pretty interesting for their size (a bit of articulation, decent sculpts, more then one paint app). I might have to pick some of these up when they hit the store shelves (though they won't be my priority, since the larger figures are).

Gotta get me one of those Stygimoloch minis. That was my favorite dinosaur as a kid, and I still have a soft spot for it, taxonomic controversies notwithstanding.
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

The way I see it, you either get a different species or an ontogenetic stage of Pachycephalosaurus. I know some people on this forum seem to consider young dinosaurs a waste of figures, but I see it as a good opportunity to create family units for dioramas. And let's face it, we don't get many figures of young dinosaurs that aren't babies. So if you want it, go for it, no matter if it is its own species or a juvenile!

Stygimoloch is much cooler than Pachycephalosaurus as a name, no wonder why they choose to give it the spotlight.

It looks cooler too. In terms of names, the Dracorex has it all.

Wouldn't Chinasaur levels mean that it's great now?
Given the products that PNSO and Vitae spit out recently.
I think we really should stop associating Chinasaur with shoddy quality.
Our Chinese friends wouldn't appreciate that link.
