In absolute terms, avatar_Libraraptor @Libraraptor , I can't say for sure. It's just that in 15 years of thrift shopping, until now, I've never previously have gotten even a whiff of one. They didn't seem to show up often on eBay either, back when I was actively searching for one.

I believe that it was designed to be perched on the back of one of the other original Battats, avatar_BlueKrono @BlueKrono , though for the life of me I can't remember which one. Perhaps one of the members will recollect the one.

I searched both ebay US and ebay UK for the figure, but only find the newer Terra by Battat version. So, yeah, nice to know I am among its owners. :)

Dilopho

I'm still riding the high of finding the Cryolophosaurus new and boxed in TK Maxx in 2023. My only Battat figure

Living in the UK, I always wanted those things but they're just out of my reach.

Quote from: ceratopsian on May 27, 2025, 09:20:20 PMAn excellent find, S @SidB!
It's kind of neat that people are still finding Battat figures of interest, this far down the road. A bit melancholy too.

PrimevalRaptor

avatar_Dilopho @Dilopho happened to me too here in Germany, I was SO excited (they also had the Ceratosaurus and Carnotaurus a while back but I only grabbed the Cerato, kinda wish I got the Carnotaurus too).
Having those in hand really makes you understand why this line is so highly regarded among collectors.

Absolutely, the colours, the detail, everything really pops and the sculpts are genius.
And they are remnants of that great era when we were really figuring out how dinosaurs truly looked like.

PrimevalRaptor

Yeah, it rules! And some of them held up really well too (the Ouranosaurus and Styracosaurus are two that I always wanted...and the Diplodocus but that one is more mythical lol)

For something less elusive, I picked up the Papo Compsognathus on a sale, of course not the king of accuracy but a REALLY good JP Compy and full of personality

Dilopho

It looks convincingly real, it was an interesting move by Papo to make it larger than expected but it paid off in my opinion by being such an interesting piece
It's like CollectA's pterosaurs. I'm really surprised that Mattel hasn't done this same idea yet for the Compsognathus or Moros.

Wait, did you just say Battat dinosaur figures once were available at TK Maxx stores in Germany, avatar_PrimevalRaptor @PrimevalRaptor:-[ These are normally the kind of shop that I avoid.

PrimevalRaptor

Yep! I got the Ceratosaurus...back in 2016 I think? The Cryolophosaurus was more recent, in the last three years I think.
I've also seen some Takara Tomy ones (like the Futabasaurus which I picked up) there and the occasional JW figures like a single Hammond Collection Corythosaurus or some of the attack packs.
I usually head there once a month or so when I'm in town cause you never know what you may find (though often there's not much interesting there)

ceratopsian

I seem to recall it was Maiasaura - but I'm not 100% certain S @SidB.

SidB

You're quite right, avatar_ceratopsian @ceratopsian , and here's proof of the pudding. Here's he Utahraptor perched menacingly atop one of my two Maisaura's, this one repainted to correspond to the new paint scheme that Dan had proposed to Battat prior to his passing.

Flaffy

Amazing how the Battat Maiasaura is still the best version on the market after all these years.

Fembrogon

I had a BIG box from avatar_brettnj @brettnj arrive yesterday - an assortment of nifty items I had been overdue in getting off his hands.  :*D

Here's the whole kit & kaboodle:

And here's the prehistoric assortment specifically:

Mostly catching up on the Favorite Collection, as you can see. The Mammoth is enormous! I had not realized. The new Deinocheirus, Dimorphodon, and Ichthyosaurus are the main items, of course.
And some Sacabambaspis mini plushies, 'cause why not?
You can also see the older X-PLus T-Rex and Kong in the larger group photo, which are both pretty neat.

Dilopho

avatar_Fembrogon @Fembrogon Congrats, those X Plus Kong and meat eater are grails for a lot of people ^^

Carnoking

S @SidB
You have me wanting another Maiasaura just so I can repaint it, that's awesome!

Check out the other Dan LoRusso inspired repaints on my Revisiting the Past thread, avatar_Carnoking @Carnoking . It was a great shame that Battat never went through with releasing them, not to mention the small range of entirely new figures that Dan had made available to them.

Remarkable, isn't it. And even for the ubiquitous T-rex, their first version endured, arguably, for thirty years as the best one available (at least to the fortunate collector who has chanced upon one).
