Quote from: Tyto_Theropod on February 21, 2019, 02:18:48 PMThe only thing stopping me from grabbing all the Spinos (other than budgeting!) is the controversy surrounding the Ibrahim restoration and the uncertainty over what an 'accurate Spinosaurus' actually is. AFAIK it's still very much up in the air. I personally like the Ibrahim look, but I'm also very nitpicky about accuracy in my models - I place the blame entirely on this forum! ;)

Just don't buy any that aren't in swimming poses and you should be more-or-less okay on that front–at least for a while!  ;D

avatar_Tyto_Theropod @Tyto_Theropod: The head size of the 2019 Safari Stegosaurus appears to be the right size, to me.  For comparison:

1. Scott Hartman's Stegosaurus skeletal: https://www.deviantart.com/scotthartman/art/Roofed-reptile-overhaul-75933986
2. The Stegosaurus skeleton shown near the beginning of this paper: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0138352

The only thing I'm not liking about the new Safari Stegosaurus is the colouration it's ended up having.  I think the figure is wonderful otherwise.  I would be interested in seeing some photos that clearly show what the actual figure is like.

I stand corrected! It's my own fault - I haven't really kept up to date with research on Stegosauria. I guess I've become very Theropod-focused! Like you I'm going to wait till I see other peoples' photos, but then I do that with any figure. If the only thing I don't like is the colour scheme I'll plan a repaint, so you could do the same either by yourself or through a commission.

I don't have time to repaint a figure myself or to arrange someone to do it for me.  I don't see my situation changing sometime soon, so a repaint isn't an option for me.  I'm happy to hear you can still enjoy a figure even if you don't like its colour scheme, by repainting it.  I'm hoping this Stegosaurus's colouration won't stop me from getting the figure, I've been wishing for a satisfying Stegosaurus figure for a long time.

Likewise! It's just one of those must-have Stock Dinosaurs. :))

The new spinosaurus of Safari 2019 reviewed by Spinodude, video:

Blade-of-the-Moon

It does look a bit better in that video.  If it had come out last year I would have bought it on release. Just..too many new Spinos this year.

Allosaurus is now available on Safari's web site, so that's the full 2019 line-up!

This Safari 2019 stegosaurus is as big as its Papo counterpart. He is a great figure and I was very wrong with this beauty paleoescultórica far exceeds his counterpart of Carnegie (which incidentally I think another great figure of this iconic and well-known dinosaur).

SidB

Looking forward to getting my Stego from Dejankins soon.

Fenestra

I absolutely adore this Stegosaurus.
Look at that face! Wonderful!
With a nice repaint this figure will truly shine.
Nice job Mr. Watson!

Minmiminime

It's beautiful and adorable. Thanks, D @Dimitar_E , it's great to see it up close like this! There's a lot more to it than photographs have thus far shown. I really like the subtlety of it, the paint app could maybe have benefited from being a little brighter and from an aesthetic point of view the plates could have been a little more gnarly and keratinous looking, but as figures go this one is definitely a winner! And probably one of my favourites of this year's lineup ^-^

The Stegosaurus looks great. Even though I still wish it was green instead of brown, it is a fantastic figure and I'm looking foward to get it.

SidB

The older model was strikingly colored, almost like a moving billboard, IMO. This one is dun and subtle, but I really like how the details are evident, especially outstanding around the head and neck area. I was somewhat skeptical, but now I'm a believer: it's wonderfully accurate and a good value. I think that I might do a filing job on the thagomizer spikes, so as to sharper them up, just like I did on the teeth of the Schleich spinosaurus.

Shonisaurus

In front of the note given by Andy I put a note to the stegosaurus of 10 out of 10. It is an outstanding work and the best stegosaurus (and also one hundred percent scientific) made to date.

Killekor

Here's my opinions about the new figures:

Carnotaurus: nice figure. Probably it's the best carnotaurus ever made.

Coelodonta: nothing to say here, probably because I'm not interested in prehistoric mammals.

Prestosuchus: an interesting model, but nothing more.

Camarasaurus: a really nice figure! I really like it!

Citipati: this is a must-have. His detailed sculpt and colorful color scheme makes it beautiful!

Styracosaurus: it's ok, but I'll probably never get it. This is a really bad year to release ceratopsian figures, with the advent of the BotM line.

Allosaurus: absolutely Safari's best release this year. I really can't wait to get it!

Pteranodon: Finally a good representation of this genera! I absolutely like it.

Stegosaurus: Apart from the fact that I don't like at all the new reconstruction of the stego, I don't like the model itself.

And, finally, the Spinosaurus. I sincerely don't know what to say about this one. When I discovered this brand, I really hoped for a modern Spinosaurus figure. I'd always think that they're version of this animal would have been fabulous, that it would have been one of the best dinosaur figures ever... But now I'm just terribly deluded. I've never saw a worst Spinosaurus figure. Even the CollectA mini it's better. The only positive thing about that model is it's pose, but the rest it's simply bad. The color scheme it's boring, the head doesn't look like a Spinosaurus one, and the cocodrillian scutes are a thing that I don't like in any dinosaur paleo art.
Sorry Doug but I really don't like your Spinosaurus.

Killekor
Bigger than a camarasaurus,
and with a bite more stronger that the T-Rex bite,
Ticamasaurus is certainly the king of the Jurassic period.

With Balaur feet, dromaeosaurus bite, microraptor wings, and a terrible poison, the Deinoraptor Dromaeonychus is a lethal enemy for the most ferocious hybrid too.

Dino Scream3232

Finally the Allosaurus is here. It's a really great model. My favorite out of the 2019 line up. It stands very well. Did a video review on him. https://youtu.be/LFILm2vdTt4

Shonisaurus

D @Dino Scream3232 Honestly, it's the best toy allosaurus I've ever seen in the market. It surpasses the other brands of dinosaur collecting from my perspective. It has lips, and the colors of the body have been corrected after the call the attention of collectors as the members of DTF. I liked very much that you compare it with the allosaurus of Papo and that of JW and later you put it comparing them with sauropods of Safari and Carnegie (diplodocus). Magnificent figure as a final touch you have put an image with the latest Safari 2019. It has been a very bright year for this company. But the Safari allosaurus of 2019 is amazing.

Thanks for the positive review I am glad you like it. One thing you mentioned in the video was you wish the thumb claws had been sculpted bigger. If you check out my shots of the original on the first page of my collections thread you will see that they were http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=3118.0. I guess the factory didn't maintain the difference when they blunted them, I don't have a production sample yet so I will be interested to see how they handled them when I get one.

Thanks for the clarification avatar_Doug Watson @Doug Watson. Safari commented on my video and said the claw was dulled down for safety reasons. Which fine. We have to remember these are also marketed towards children. So I totally get the decision by Safari.
