Over at the STS forum, user signatus has been hard at work on a moa sculpture that will be offered as a finished model in the Likaon web shop. Here with his permission is the giant moa Dinornis robustus:

Another one for fans of recently extinct fauna: a Megaloceros from STS member signatus for the Likaon line:

How beautiful is the Likaon series (I'm subscribed to your newsletter) if they weren't made of resin and in some way so expensive to keep them you would surely buy them. The megaloceros of Likaon reminds me of a reindeer and the moa Dinornis robustus is made wisely by skipping the generalized canons of classic reconstructions that always put the moa with the erect neck, in this case that moa with the crouched neck is in a more avant-garde position and innovative.

I've wanted a Moa in this more natural pose for ages, its a shame there is no more affordable figure like that.

A very nice sculpt... I myself wanted to sculpt one for my personal use since quite a while. That raised a question..... while Dinornis probably looked somewhat similar to a giant emu, the skeleton shows some significant differences. One of these is, that I could not find an image of a Dinornis skeleton with wing bones (arm and hand skeleton). While those wings would probably been hidden under plumage as in emus, under certain conditions those stumpy wings ccould still be visible. So.... did Dinornis have (tiny) wings, or where those bones degenerated as the hip and leg bones in whales (well, not all of them, but most)?

From what I've read, Dinornis (and other moa genera) completely lost their wings (to the same extent as the hip bones in cetaceans), and that this is one of, if not the main, anatomical features distinguishing them from all other ratites.

Work in progress from José Miguel Aparicio:

The tarpan, Equus ferus, possibly the ancestral stock of modern horses, but extinct for about 100 years. Not really prehistoric, but maybe of interest to people here. The model has still not been painted; I'll update when it has been.

Oh, thank you, good to know. I didn't realize it was already listed; everything I know is from his updates on STS.

Magnificent Likaon models are prehistoric mammal figures made of perfect and polished resins.

These are gorgeous sculptures, avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres.  Whilst recently extinct animals aren't to my taste (they make me sad most of the time), I'm definitely interested in some of their modern sculpts.  Thanks for bringing this site to my attention.  Not sure what my family or my purse would say if I branched out into extant fauna, though! :))

Likaon isn't a brand. It's a site that help the artists sell their models. On the site you can see who made each model.

S @stegosauria I was aware of this, but thanks regardless - I realised my original wording didn't make it clear!

Are you searching for the best Cave Bear available?

This is the WIP Ursus spelaeus by Jose Miguel Aparicio for SignatuStudio / Likaon:

I'd forgotten that I originated this thread. Would people find it useful if I collected all the models in the first post?
