My trip(s) to the Gilboa Museum in NY (very image heavy)

So this past week my family stayed at my dad's cousin and wife's house, and we did lots of different things. One of those was going on a trip to the Gilboa Museum not once but twice (as it was closed on the 5th), which my dad's cousin wanted me to see. I of course also brought some of my JW critters along for the trip for pics with them too (one of these days I need to bring my Safari Ltd figures, etc, with me on vacations).

Shortly after visiting the nearby waterfall (Mine Kill) on the 6th, we paid another visit and thankfully it was open that day. I got to meet Kristen Wyckoff inside, who is not only a wonderful artist (or at least I sure think so), but she also helped contribute with some fossil finds/discoveries. She also happens to know my dad's cousin, and his wife. I showed her my tote bag that I got from a kickstarter a while ago depicting Paleozoic creatures (including Dunkleosteus), and we discussed the history of the area's fossils (some of which happen to be some of Earth's earliest tree's discovered yet), some of the paintings she has done for (perhaps the most impressive one, is also the one that ended up becoming out of date shortly after more fossils were discovered, in regards to the trees. The smaller painting is the more up to date rendition) etc. It was great to finally meet someone else interested in this kind of stuff, in person. She also asked me if I was familiar with Bothriolepis (and thanks to this forum I certainly do), etc, which I was excited to discuss. If only I could visit museum's more often (I also showed her some of my pics from my trips this week, and she asked me to email them to her).

Now for the pics:

Day 1:

This particular fossil has some tragic history, in that a good portion of it was stolen (which can be seen mentioned in the image above):

The other exterior location:

Day 2 (I might go more in depth over what was covered and discussed here tomorrow):

Some more images of that one fossil from outside (different parts of it that I missed on day 1):

There were so many brachiopod fossils in the stone sections in the columns at the Gazebo outside that I missed on Day 1 as well. So many lovely specimens in them.

Well that about wraps this up. I hope this is enough. I'll likely go more in depth (such as adding names, etc) tomorrow.

Thank you so much for posting these photos.  I've read about the Gilboa Forest but am unlikely ever to find myself in the area for a visit.  A real treat to see so much!

Halichoeres

I live only one county over (for a little while longer) and I had no idea this was here! I'll have to check it out, thanks for the photos!
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.
