The first PNSO Megalodon blows that one out of the water.

That's the one I meant, the vinyl figure?  I forgot there were two.
This guy :

It does have a general White Shark look but there are differences in the details.

The CollectA Meg's upper teeth in particular seem unnecessarily blunt.

So many of these new Megalodon figs are females. Hehe, I love it. Wonder if that's because people can't tell boys from girls in the shark world or if they are just too lazy to mold that particular anatomical difference?

Probably as a safety measure? But then again the figure has other pointy bits kids could gauge their eyes out with. Huh.

Concavenator

Even though the figure is not bad, in my opinion Megalodon is probably the most boring prehistoric creature to make a figure of.

This is a trend with extant shark figures as well; of the 8 I currently own, only 1 has claspers (and none of the ones on my wishlist seem to have them either). More likely than not, this is a combination of both factors you mention  :P

There is practically no difference between a megalodon and a white shark, although it must also be said that not much of its paleontological remains are conserved. I guess he succeeds in shopping for Steven Spielberg's "Shark" movie.

A helicoprion, an edestus or a stethacanthus would be more interesting than the carcharodon megalodon. There is still no company except Safari that has done them justice (as far as I know) independently that I would like it with a more reasonable size and that yes, without articulated jaws.

Is it me, or is the jaw articulation simpler than previously announced? I don't see the teeth on the upper jaw moving...

Gothmog the Baryonyx

I actually like the CollectA Megalodon more than the PNSO one (I think I'll put that in the controversial opinions thread) and if I wanted to buy a Megalodon figure it would be that one, but I don't want to buy a Megalodon anyone so it's a moot point.

The orthoceras is surprisingly small. Really excited for that belemnite though.

Shonisaurus

Collecta's redlichia rex trilobit looks less bright than in its promotional photographs it seems sincerely a lifeless trilobit reminds me a lot of Bullyland's trilobit.

The Orthoceras of Collecta is quite small, the horseshoe crab and the nautilus look fabulous.

Collecta's belemnite excites me as a figure and the ammonite pleuroceras is another outstanding figure among prehistoric invertebrates.

Undoubtedly, the two weak figures of the group are the redlichia rex trilobit and the orthoceras otherwise the other invertebrates have turned out great to the Collecta brand.

Completely agree. It's totally pointless.

But they sell. So not really pointless if it improves the bottom line. It's why T.rex sells.  I get about 20 kids a year asking me if I'm going to build a Megalodon for the park. I don't want to for several reasons including those mentioned...but I may build a set of jaws eventually.  Kids know it, it's popular, and kids like Sharks almost as much as dinosaurs.

Yeah, given how hugely popular Megalodon is with the general public, I think labelling this or any other toy of it "pointless" is taking things a bit too far. The Meg was a laughably corny film, but it raked in a massive mountain of moolah ($530.2 million) and there are plans for a sequel. Can't fault CollectA for wanting to get in on some of that fame.

Another example of Megalodon's popularity: there's an old brainteaser I like to do with classrooms of kids where I ask "What was the largest animal in the world before the blue whale was discovered?"[/b] The students' responses always include Megalodon. Always.

Honestly I just wish with all these Megalodon options, that there was some Livyatan to go with them too (and on that note, more prehistoric whales and their ancestors in general).

They sell just as well as Great Whites do, so it doesn't matter if you name it Megalodon or Great White.
Maybe that's what Halichoeres meant by "pointless".

That docudrama..I think on Discovery? a few years back really had people buzzing. I had people telling me Megalodon was still around and people had seen it, there was a documentary on tv about it..that was fun trying to correct them.. lol

I would like a giant 16" or so one kinda like the old Safari Monterrey Bay whales.  Given how long it has taken for us to get a single Basilosaurus I'm not holding my breath.

Quite possible.  I never underestimate kids though, I hear them all the time correcting parents. If I tried to pass off a Great White as a Meg I'm sure I would hear it..they expect some differences in look.
