2020 Forum Banner

Not sure if this helps, but I am still getting the old banner, so I loaded the image in a separate tab and noted it had the file name dinosaur_toy_forum_background_2018.png.  Changing the year to 2020 did give me the new image (separte from the page), so the image is out available, just not chosen by the page. So if all else fails, I guess you could just change the name of the image.

Thanks, but it is the css file that isn't refreshing in the browser, so the file on my server links to dinosaur_toy_forum_background_2020.png, but the file in my browser still links to dinosaur_toy_forum_background_2018.png. The fact that some members do see the updated banner proves that it is a cache issue, but I can't get my head around it.

Well, I'm all out of ideas, sorry. I don't want to mess with the forum php code. Those who cannot see the new banner, including me, will just have to live with it, and maybe the mysterious old cached version ".css?fin20" will refresh itself eventually. It normally does, and I haven't done anything differently this time.

Seconded.  Both banners are nice, so I'm happy with either.

Do I ever feel you there? css was by far my least favourite part of the programming module I did at Uni.  I never did 100% get the hang of it.

I know css, it is a very useful tool I couldn't do without. No, there's something else at play here. After ruling out everything else I think it must be CloudFlare, a security feature on my server, doing weird things. I don't have access to that.

I decided to bite the bullet and edit the forum php code (deleted "?fin20") and this has fixed the problem.

Now, I'm not really sure what that code does or if it is important, so I may have to put it back, but at least it confirms that that's the culprit behind the banner not updating for many users.

I can see the new banner now, my browser is Safari. I can see it from both my iPad and iPhone.

Yes, it will work for everyone, I just don't like that I had to edit core code to make it so - I shouldn't have to and it might have implications.

I second the comments from Hali and ceratopsian; this banner is a nice change for 2020 (this isn't to denigrate the previous one in any way; I did like it). I'm especially happy the CollectA Pleuroceras was, in the end, kept in

I can see the banner perfectly now, the only change from before was I got a full page privacy warning when I logged in that I had to agree to. Never got that before.
