My only complaint is the transitions on the hips and tail aren't smooth. The head, neck, and body transitions look great, but then the feathered section indents over the hips rather than flowing smoothly, and even worse the tail section dips down further before trailing off which looks very artificial.

I've noticed that as well. Maybe it's an artifact of it being a glued-on soft plastic coat? Regardless, it'd be nice if the feathers transitioned more smoothly. The thickness of the plastic of the tail feather pieces bother me particularly.

Letting folks know that I've updated the op because I'm really not in the best situation right now. I may lose internet and have the phone shut off soon. Is this happens I will have no way to update this thread, especially not as frequently, at least until things get caught up on time. So if I become mysteriously inactive for a while that is why. People will just need to rely on checking the kickstarter itself entirely, or the Creative Beast Studio social media accounts.

David Silva updates the Kickstarter with Update #15 "They Can Free Stand!"

Quote

Today I was able to unpack the T. rex fine-cuts sent to me from the factory for both the 1/18th and 1/35th scale Tyrannosaurus rex figures, and I must say, I'm impressed.

One of the biggest questions since I began developing the Tyrannosaur line was- how will they stand? I felt that if I could get them to stand with a base and foot pegs, and no visible support, it would be a great achievement. And with the interchangeable lower leg idea, that problem seemed to be resolved.  Can it stand without a base? I doubt it... at least that's what I used to think. Behold...

So apparently by using both of the fixed lower legs, these figures can indeed stand on their own without the aid of a base and foot pegs. Who knew? I saw a photo from the factory a while back showing this, but I was still skeptical. Now I can confirm that yes they do work. I would even say that surprisingly,  the larger one is even more stable than the smaller one.

For those unfamiliar with the action figure making process, the fine-cut is the first stage of preproduction and is a resin duplicate of the original sculpted parts but are modified with functional joints, engineered to allow for the best movement possible.

These vary a little from the original prototypes in that the joints are more refined and functional, getting us closer to the final version. And the jaw works very well now too- see, the mouth will fully close.

Once a fine cut figure is approved, it becomes the basis for the metal tooling molds and thus all of the injection molded figures there after.

There's more that I want to explore with these fine-cuts such as dynamic posing options and range of articulation (though it is a bit limited at this stage due to the rigid resin material). It would all be too much for one update, but I wanted to at least show some new photos of these guys and share the good news about the standing situation.

Alright that'll do it for now- talk to you all soon!

I thought I would inform folks my internet did get paid (sibling paid it), so I can keep managing the op as necessary. Sorry for any delays. I was also busy cleaning, etc yesterday so didn't get the chance to relay that.

Glad to hear you still have internet, avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin, and I'm sorry that you're dealing with so much uncertainty in your life right now. Hope things get better soon.
Check out my customs thread!

avatar_Dusty Wren @Dusty Wren Thanks. I have a feeling this ride will be much longer unfortunately.

In hopefully brighter news, we have a better look at the Suskityrannus artwork by artist Raul Ramos, since the postcard set 2 was revealed. This one is also the next stretch goal after Lythronax gets funded (less then $3,000 to go on that front). Love the Zuniceratops from the previous series featured here, and this is also one I am hoping to get later on to go with said ceratopsian.

Lythronax unlocked!

Suski unlock should be $370K-ish?

Faelrin

avatar_Over9K @Over9K David revealed in the kickstarter comments it will be unlocked at $365,000. Looks like I got it right (my guess in the op which I'll quote below, as I'm sure some of those will need changed here soon, once more info on the upcoming stretch goals gets added to the campaign page). And with Lythronax being funded now, there's only 8 more stretch goals for the meantime!

Quote
1/18th Suskityrannus hazelae $365,000?
1/18th Gorgosaurus libratus $385,000 (or more)?
1/18th Eotyrannus lengi $400,000 (or more)?
1/18th Daspletosaurus torosus $420,000 (or more)?
1/18th Alectrosaurus olseni $435,000 (or more)?

Update 16 is about a new 2022 calendar add-on that will be exclusive to kickstarter backers. Seems to be just the thing needed to get Lythronax funded a bit ago.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/creativebeast/beasts-of-the-mesozoic-tyrannosaur-series-action-figures/posts/3321441

Edit: It may help if I add a pic of the calendar here too for folks to see, in case they might be interested:

Edit: Alright so the op has been updated with the next batch of stretch goals, the Suskityrannus, Gorgosaurus, and Eotyrannus.

Gorgosaurus will be unlocked at $395,000, and Eotyrannus will be unlocked at $410,000.

I'm estimating the next stretch goal funding limits as follows:

Quote
1/18th
Daspletosaurus torosus $440,000?
1/18th Alectrosaurus olseni $455,000?
1/18th Tarbosaurus bataar $485,000 (or more)?
1/18th Moros intrepidus $500,000 (or more)?
1/18th Albertosaurus sarcophagus $530,000 (or more)?

This is assuming the Tarbosaurus will need $30,000 minimum additional funding to be unlocked after Alectrosaurus. It may need more. We are easily looking at over $530,000 needing reached to get all remaining stretch goals unlocked, however.

As I thought, Gorgo is the first of Wave 3, and look at that sketch for the box art!! I think Gorgo might be my favorite thus far... need to see the Alberto in paint.

Will Alberto get in under the wire? Two weeks to go, it's gonna be close... we have to be unlocking new figures at a little better than 1 every 48 hours.

suspsy

Poor Albertosaurus. I wonder if there was any particular reason for it to be the last of the lot.

Man... 30,000 dollars between suskityrannus and gorgosaurus is going to be a slow burn...

Faelrin

So David confirmed we will need over $530,000 to unlock the Albertosaurus, and everything before it. I have faith this can be done. We our at the halfway point as of today, have over half the stretch goals unlocked, and now less then $9,000 to go for the next already. At this point, we would only need over $173,000 to get the rest of those. Again I fully expect and hope for a large boost on the last two days, like what happened with the previous two campaigns, never mind the rest in between. We would need to meet or exceed roughly $11,000 per day.

We've also surpassed the funding total for the Raptor Series campaign today. Percentage is a different thing (because of the difference in initial funding goals. In other words this campaign is at or over 192% currently, where as the Raptor Series ended at 281%, and the Ceratopsian Series ended at 181%, which this campaign has surpassed), but in due time I'm sure we should surpass that as well.

Eocarcharia

Well I just added the Lythronax to my pledge. So far it's been the only stretch goal I'm absolutely sure that I want, though I hope that will change as more painted prototypes are unveiled. Of course the Albertosaurus (one of my most anticipated) would be last in line to unlock.

MLMjp

Alright, I finally made my pledge, after a few days of trying to organice my expenses for this month, 1/35 T.rex, here we go!

Now to wait...

well it won't make that much difference, but the time between those is when I'll be making my pledge as I want to wait for the Suskityrannus to be unlocked before I pledge.
And I'm wondering whether I should get the WWD T. rex after all, if only to trade for something more desirable to me (or sell if no takers)
Megalosaurus, Iguanodon, Archaeopteryx, Cetiosaurus, Compsognathus, Hadrosaurus, Brontosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Albertosaurus, Herrerasaurus, Stenonychosaurus, Deinonychus, Maiasaura, Carnotaurus, Baryonyx, Argentinosaurus, Sinosauropteryx, Microraptor, Citipati, Mei, Tianyulong, Kulindadromeus, Zhenyuanlong, Yutyrannus, Borealopelta, Caihong

Update 17 is out, and aside from the obvious announcement of Lythronax being funded, it also covers some interesting stuff, such as fun size comparison shots, an alternate take on the package art by artist Gabriel Ugueto, with some speculative light feathering. The coloration of the figure's base has been updated and a revised gallery will be shared soon.

Edit: Less then $6,000 to go to get Suskityrannus unlocked, and to move on to getting that beautiful Gorgosaurus funded next!

So glad Lythronax got funded...it was one of my most wanted. No I NEED that Gorgosaurus too! Curious how Daspletosaurus  and Albertosaurus will look too.

"We're only halfway into the campaign and doing exceptionally well, especially when compared to the previous two Beasts of the Mesozoic campaigns. I think these goals are all very attainable and who knows, I may even come up with a few more toward the end."

:o Oh... oh my. I wonder what other stretch goals David is thinking about doing.
