The Spinosaurus tail news was part of a one-two punch from Ibrahim and colleagues. Punch one was this gigantic monograph on the geology and paleobiota of this Moroccan formation. There's a lot there, from prawns to seed ferns to dragonflies to sharks to crocodiles. The most important specimen to me personally was this one of the stem-bichir Serenoichthys, which to my knowledge is the first published photo of a specimen with a head:

Completely different from a modern bichir!

That fish is wonderfully preserved, but I can only wonder why is it so red? No doubt I would love to see a figure of this one (as it is there is sadly too little prehistoric fish figures out there, not counting Dunkleosteus and Megalodon). Really cool to see it is a stem-bichir too.

I'm very glad to see the paper with these findings is not behind a paywall as well. What better way to learn about this ancient ecosystem (and in turn Spinosaurus as well, other then its morphology), other then the direct data and material like this that shows what lived alongside it?

Nice prehistoric fish. What I do not understand why not make more fish by toy dinosaur brands.

Even companies that make living animals rarely make fishes, aside from some of the colorful, tropical varieties or large gamefish. And sharks too, of course.

Am I the only one who's hoping that more remains of Deltadromeus are discovered? The notion of a 16 metre long noasaurid is mind boggling!

It is true what you say, the taste for fish or amphibians even as salamanders (except frogs and toads) today is quite a minority even among children. I understand the position of the toy dinosaur marks.

It's a real shame. But this problem doesn't appear to exist in Japan, they have many splendid fish and amphibian figures that I'll never see.

I'd love to get enough of it to finally put to rest the debate over whether it was a junior synonym of Bihariosaurus.
