Mattel - New for 2021 (Image Heavy op)

Since Mattel launched the Jurassic World line I've basically come to terms with the fact that I cannot be a Mattel completist, which is fine, I don't have the money, space, or even the desire to have all of them. I get the ones I like the most and if they aren't at my local Target or Walmart then I just deal with it. The ones I don't get go on a long list of stuff I wanted but won't ever own but can also live without. This SDCC Arnold is really cool, but I'm not going to jump through hoops for it. Hopefully they'll release a standalone Arnold at some point.

All that said, I don't sleep on Mattel. I check the stores every couple weeks and if they have what I want I get it because I don't know if I will be able to later down the road. It does mean that other companies get put on the back burner because I have no choice but to prioritize Mattel. Unless they're retiring a figure, the other companies can wait, those toys aren't going anywhere. The fleeting nature of Mattel toys is also good because it makes me really prioritize which Mattel toys I want. Do I REALLY want to buy the Spinosaurus or would I rather save the money for the PNSO Tarbosaurus? I get where ItsTwentyBelow is coming from and generally agree, but I also understand why folks on a collecting forum wouldn't appreciate the comment.

avatar_ItsTwentyBelow @ItsTwentyBelow Patience doesn't pay off if we never see the stuff here though (the same applies to other countries as well). I can't remember if the Scutosaurus or Postosuchus ever arrived here, but I had to get help from folks outside the US for those, because a) those never showed up in my local stores, and b) I never saw them offered online. Those are some of my favorite prehistoric animals too, so I really didn't want to miss out on those. There were plenty of other instances (such as the infamous Battle Damage line, that despite being a retailer exclusive here, never saw much show up our way), here, and in other countries.

Now with this year's releases it seems this is a different situation from prior. There is a legitimate supply chain issue going on, and patience will hopefully pay off, rather I get them from those pre-orders or find them in store, but the lack of knowing is the real crux of the problem here, because there is no transparency. Honestly I guess it pays off being a collector of more then one brand, because that was the only way I found out about what is going on globally right now (I don't watch the news either). Worst case scenario I get them from international folks again, because I don't want to miss out, and get stuck with terrible after market prices or scalper third party sellers. The Carcharodontosaurus in particular is one I've been looking forward to the most of this year's releases, other then the Legacy Collection stuff which has not been an issue here thankfully.

While I agree about not buying from scalpers, it is also frustrating when they buy up the supply and then screw people out of getting it for legitimate prices (or at all). While not pertaining to this hobby itself, this is what happened with the recently revealed Metroid Dread Collector's edition and the amiibo pack. And seeing how many were upset after missing their chance to get Nedry last year, I am worried about that again, even I myself can probably live without getting my hands on one of these (still would be disappointing though), since even if Ray is repacked or retooled (as happened with Hammond and Nedry), I doubt the cool accessories will make a return and that may be a deal breaker for some, especially with this essentially being a mini playset, and one of the first in years (really hope we get some next year though).

In any case looks like pre-orders went live for the Amber Collection JPIII Velociraptor and Alan Grant on Target. Was also today's Beyond the Gates reveal. Not sure I'll pre-order them both, or at least not just yet. I still have the others to pick up, and I'd prefer to hold off in case a sale pops up, as what happened recently with the Pteranodon, etc. I'm sure they'll be in stores later, or at least the raptor I expect. These will also likely be on BBTS, EE, and Amazon, so numerous options.

Estimated shipping date for these two is mid-late October (or 10/18).

Both Grant and the Raptor have been sold out since about an hour after they went live.  I hope Amazon, BBTS or somewhere else gets them.

Faelrin

Well shoot that was much faster then I was expecting. Literally within the hour? Really hope these do pop up elsewhere then (or in stores in October or November). Can't say I didn't expect this though (edit: for pre-orders to sell out though). The Tyrannosaurus Escape Pack sold out pretty quick for pre-orders as well, but thankfully has started showing up on store shelves in some places. Same goes for the last wave of Amber Collection figures as well.

Edit: Forgot to mention I updated (well still have a few things to go back and fix) the op. Added a bunch of things, replaced some images (still a few left). Seems twitter images no longer work for me (at least on on this browser) so a few of those still need replaced with alternatives. May need to dig for instagram links or such in the meantime.

Didn't mind so much then as I had my preorders from Amazon and BBTS had them. Hopefully these aren't 100% target exclusive online and off.

Faelrin

I agree that would be terrible and I will be kicking myself for missing it (intentionally even, because of the exclusive tomorrow, and that there is no guarantee I'll get one, where as with this, I caught it early but passed it up). I have absolute no doubts scalpers already pre-ordered some of these as well. Shame on them if they did.

I got two as well. Going to reserve the second for someone on instagram in case they don't get one in time. (Edit: They got one now! So now I'd like to reserve that second one for avatar_MLMjp @MLMjp in case they decide they want one, and missed out. Most folks I've seen that wanted one got one though, thankfully. Much better then last year). It seems much better this time around. Most of my Mattel JP/JW friends got one (or two) as well. Loaded pretty fast on my end, and 2 per person means supply may have been better. Granted it isn't being split between them and EE this time around either. I hope this means they listened to feedback from last year too. I can finally be relieved now. I also made sure to save and back up the product images they put out. I don't know how long those will be available for, but must be said the outside of the box looks wicked nice.

Said it will ship before or on October 18. So a few months away (Nedry shipped in October last year from there as well). Now the next thing I wait to have arrive will be my Legacy Tyrannosaurus Escape Pack, and then this probably.

Nice! I just wanted one to open and one to keep minty.  I'll never open my Nedry/Barbasol figure because I only managed one.   I sort of think they had a better  plan, maybe the order to the factory will depend on sales so they don't end up with a ton of overstock or Universal will take them again like they did with Hammond.  That Captcha had me cursing and the wait in line I was sweating bullets lol but maybe all that also deterred scalpers. Either way not nearly as rough as EE was last year.

Faelrin

Well if no collector wants/needs it, I'll gladly keep it to have a mint one. I opened my Nedry, although I display mine in the can anyways. Really glad about that because it means I didn't have to mangle the packaging too much to get it opened up. Just had to cut some tape if I recall. But I noticed mine has two left or right feet (which I only noticed this year, and not like after I first got it). One of a kind, lol. My Hammond on the other hand is still in the package. Only opened the "doors" on the box to view it, so not full mint I guess, but close enough. That's where I wish I had a second to open it for the incubator accessory, but oh well. At least the Legacy set came out with him and those nice raptors so I have a loose Hammond to display as well now.

Just for curiosity I just checked and it is still in stock. They do ship internationally and the shipping is only 15$! In total the set would cost me 34€...

avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin, thanks for thinking about me. Honestly I was going to pass on it, didnt even bother to be in time. But now that I have checked...if customs get this, the extra VAT would increase the price to 40€...for October...I have some stuff pre-ordered for October... :-\

Faelrin

avatar_MLMjp @MLMjp Well I'll be darned. I just checked. I'm surprised it is still in stock. Nearly been 2 hours since it went up. Sounds like the supply was much better this year then. Already been like 2 hours. Funny to think this had more, or stayed in stock longer then the AC JPIII raptor and Grant on Target did of all things.

Well if you want me to hold this extra one until next year or whatever works, let me know, unless you don't need or want it now. I have no problem holding my other friends stuff for months out sometimes, despite my cramped space, so no big deal. I manage somehow, lol.

avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin. I ended up purchasing one, so you can do whatever you want with your second one. Still, thank you very much for taking me into consideration.

They charged me in advance, I though it would be a pay latter thing. Well, that makes managing finances a bit easier...

Faelrin

avatar_MLMjp @MLMjp Right I forgot that was a thing. Glad you got one though. I'll be sure to keep it around in case anyone here missed out, or I'll just keep it mint. Just glad to see so many that wanted this one ended up getting one.

I also went back and grabbed Kevin, the bird from Up since it too was still in stock. I mean it's also a dinosaur too right, lol?

I'm starting to wonder if my hope that they would just take orders then produce what was preordered was true. They did charge upfront to guarantee sales.  That or they have a plan for overstock..like Universal is taking them much like they did Hammond.

kevin from up is the best dinosaur that has ever been in film, ever.

Pachyrhinosaurus

I bought the Arnold set yesterday. I was a little worried since I was on vacation and only had my phone to order it, but it worked and I finished checkout in just a few minutes. In fact I was under the boardwalk when I placed my pre-order. I'm surprised pre-orders are still open a day later given that Nedry sold out just minutes after going live.
