PNSO: New For 2021

the stego paint job doesn't looks too different from the spinosaurus. I have the spino, am looking at it right now and it has a detailed paint app but also that same sort of dark muddy brown look. Its very different from the paint job on the corythosaurus(which i"m also looking at now) where the paint is a lighter base yellow color so you can see the stripe details more. I guess PNSO still needs to figure out a way to apply brown paint so it looks better?

This may sound discouraging, but I feel compelled to speak of the new Stegosaurus:

I have the Stegosaurus Bieber v2 in hand, and I gotta say - the paint is disastrous.
I have put mine in box and listed it on secondhand market.
If you are OK with repaint you are fine with Bieber.
Otherwise you better wait for a second, improved version that will probably come out in 3 months, like me.

But there's a risk that if PNSO doesn't do a repaint in the near future, future production runs of the Stegosaurus will only get worse and worse in quality, as seen in the older Museum series figures like the Mosasaurus, Amargasaurus, Yangchuanosaurus set etc.

I too am getting disappointed with the large discrepancy in quality between promotional pics and final products. Hopefully this doesn't indicate a downward trend for the company. Would be a shame to have these fantastic sculpts ruined by mediocre to poor paint, especially for that price tag.
Reminds me of what happened to S.H. MonsterArts

The review of DinosDragons of the Carcharodontosaurus is up:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEtHNFFAMsc

I like it and I have mine already on the way, but I'm not overly excited for it. But then again, when I finally had the Allosaurus in hand I liked it much better than what I've seen on images and in reviews, so hopefully this applies as well for the Carcharodontosaurus.
But today, I'm just being father

Bokisaurus

The stegosaurus looks pretty good to me and bigger than the original one.
Can't wait to get them, hopefully very soon😃

And I agree about the Charcarodontosaurus, it's beautiful and much better in person.
The video got pretty close to what it looks like in person.

I feel like we've become almost desensitized and jaded to how spectacular PNSO's figures go looking at how negative some of the comments on the paint were. I mean, watching those two review videos especially back-to-back makes me think we would've lost it if these were released in, say, just 2018. The only competitor in terms of quality would probably be Papo if I'm being honest, and they didn't have accuracy on their side, in fact, it's almost like we cyber-bullied them out of it seeing their releases (or lack thereof) for 2021 in comparison to PNSO's lineup. Not saying PNSO's price was very justified, but just a point I'd like to bring up.
On and off dinosaur collecting phases over the span of millions of years has led me to this very forum.

You're very right, and I have expressed something like this already. Currently we are being spammed (and not just from PNSO) with absolutely brilliant figures that easily outclasses pretty much any figure from just a few years back, to the point it's difficult to fully appreciate every single figure individually. Companies have went under an astounding evolution, and not only that, but also great new companies keep emerging. There has never been a better time to be a prehistoric animal model collector if you ask me.

I sort of feel like we are getting an embarrassment of riches personally, like there is too much of a good thing.

One of the folks in the instagram group chat I'm in pointed out that the new baby Stegosaurus could have had its pose inspired by the tracks at the Morrison Museum:

Anyway else aware of this already? First I heard of it. Really cool for them to take that into account and it just boosts this sets appeal to me.

Also I'm pretty torn on if/when to get this Stegosaurus set, especially after watching both A @Andysdinosaurreviews and D @Dino Scream3232 reviews on it. It's much better then I was initially led to think, but I still don't think it is worth shelling nearly $70 for, at least not any time soon. It would be a different story if it was in the $30-$40 price range. If if drops in price I'll probably consider getting it then because it does look really good alongside the Allosaurus, and even alongside their older Stegosaurus even. Definitely spoiled for choice right now for Stegosaurus in any case. I mean at minimum there's 4 on my wishlist (this set, the old PNSO one, the Safari Ltd one, and the Rebor one + Melon), and it is hard to choose just one.

Shane Foulkes sculpted a bipedal baby stegosaurus model years ago.

The PNSO version is nice, but I feel it could do better in terms of detailing. The overall sculpt is good though. I think the GR Toys version wins for me.

This is hardly a fair comparison, however - the GR specimen is retailing for almost TWICE the amount of the PNSO. Furthermore, it's a larger scale model (somewhat, which gives it an advantage) and the paint work does emphasize the scalation more than the PNSO's, which is, nevertheless, superbly done, though the paint doesn't bring that out to the same degree. I think that the PNSO is the better value for the money (42.99 vs. 79..88 USD at Dan'sDinosaurs, for example).

avatar_Blade-of-the-Moon @Blade-of-the-Moon Wow that is very nice. Guess I am way behind on this then, lol.

I like the PNSO's skull and how they did the scales better than GR's but I think that might be it, which is how it should be considering the differential in price. GR's seems like it definitely works better as a standalone piece on a shelf, especially if you get the blue one.

On another note, I find something off about Paul that I can't put my finger on. I think it's the pubic boot that makes my eye think he looks saggy (?) Not really sure.

I think in general, PNSO's herbivores are outweighing the carnivores. For this year anyway.

I agree that the herbivores outweigh the carnivores. I'm not a big fan of Paul either, but I'm not entirely sure why. I think their Spinosaurus is probably the best Spinosaurus currently available but I'm not a fan of that style of restoration for it. The rest all suffer from enlarged scales and/or the odd tooth arrangement. Gamba looks to correct those issues and will be my first PNSO theropod, I think it's the best theropod by PNSO to date.

Patrx

The big nasty seams made by the articulated jaws could be worth dealing with if the closed-mouth pose actually looked natural, but I'm afraid neither of these Carcharodontosaurus look particularly good with their mouths closed.

Stegotyranno420

Man, i almost feel bad for the pnso one. The sculpt is so good but the paint is SO bad.

I agree, but at least the PNSO one actually can close, it appears that the GR toys one cannot. A shame since the GR toys figure actually has lips.

I dont know what it is with his camera, but his figures always looks natural and good compared to most others

Unfornatley, I still will not be getting it as it will be ridiculously out of scale with my mojo giganotosaurus

My GR Toy Carcha can have his mouth completly closed :
