Hard to type correctly on the forum

That information was outdated and my settings don't even have that advanced tab anymore.

It's not Firefox or my PC because the ATF is fine.

If I have to guess, perhaps the forum is saving in progress posts? That might cause latency during which inputs might be ignored.

It's not that, the forum doesn't save in progress posts. It must be at least partly related to Firefox or some other browser setting, since only some users are encountering it. The vast majority of users do not have this problem (?), and I can't recreate the issue my end, so I can't easily troubleshoot it.

Does the problem persist for you across all browsers and devices?

I'm using an android Nokia phone and do have this problem too. I type text, it doesn't appear and seems to freeze, then appears a minute or so later. It's actually doing it now. I don't have Firefox on the phone.

I thought at first it was just my phone until I saw this thread. Suspect it's a problem with the platform, would it be best to check with them?

The weird thing is the ATF uses the same platform, server, settings, etc, but users there are not experiencing a typing delay. And not all users are experiencing it in the DTF. This is all rather puzzling.

What browser/app are you using to view the forum on your Nokia phone?

Yes, or I need to work in real time with someone experiencing the issue. If it is a specific incompatibility between a forum mod/setting and a browser setting, I need to go through them one by one and check with the person experiencing the problem if it makes a difference. "Any better?" "How about now?" and so on.

Also, the more data I have on devices and browsers affected and not affected, the quicker I can solve it.

I've added a poll to the top of this thread to get an idea how widespread this issue is, irrespective of device and browser. If all members could respond, even those not experiencing a lag, that would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Thanks Dr Admin - I'm using Ecosia as the browser - don't notice any similar problems when I'm typing emails (on AOL).

I've completed the poll, but it seems to happen when typing longer posts. I haven't noticed any problems cutting and pasting text from elsewhere in, such as on the Mary Anning Rocks thread.

Thanks. A few others have also completed the poll so far, which seems to suggest a relatively large number of users are experiencing no (or few) issues typing.

However, it does seem to have gone away? Typing this out and I haven't had it happen yet whereas it was happening every 5-10 words yesterday.

This is good! I updated the PHP and a few of the forum mods so maybe that had a delayed positive effect.

I never tried it, sorry. Got busy. Seems to be working now on firefox. Also works on Chrome and Explorer. At least it does so for me. I'll keep you posted.

Problem seems to have solved itself for me.  No further issues currently.  I'm a hunt-and-peck typist, so for me it was fairly easy to see when I had the problem: a space or letter would stubbornly refuse to print until I had hit the appropriate key again (sometimes up to three "persuasion" key-poundings required for a single character); only with Firefox and only on this forum (for me, anyway).  There were never any lag-printings (hit key -- wait -- letter finally appears), only outright mutinous refusals to print.  I, too, thought it was my keyboard originally, and fortunately happened on this thread before I went out and made an unnecessary purchase (more money now for toy dinosaurs).

I detest to bring this up again, but I am currently unable to copy paste stuff here using firefox. Is there a reason why this is happening? Granted, I am doing this at 4am, but still, it is baffling.

I haven't changed anything. Copy-paste works for me. Is anyone else experiencing a problem?  Also, @EmperorDinobot, get some sleep!
