Also my brother bought me a new laptop last night and with the specs needed to play it (short of ram for recommended, but that can get upgraded later, no big). Absolutely surprised me! Granted I may need to put off getting the game until December or later likely, but it's not as long as I was fearing now.
Wow, that's awesome, congratulations! That's got to be the best way to experience the game.

avatar_Eocarcharia @Eocarcharia Thanks. It was truly something to go from my old Windows 7 laptop (which incidentally I still plan to use for work related stuff, from being more used to and comfortable with the ui, as the new one is a Windows 11), which has 6 gigs of ram, and really weak vram, etc, to jump to this beast. For example this old Win 7 struggles to play the first game, on anything but the absolute lowest settings, and has poor performance/lag (though it also doesn't help that the thermal paste needs replaced, and the fan needs cleaned). The new one can easily play it on max settings and has super smooth fps. It's got a AMD Ryzen 5000 series card on it as well, etc.

Well some exciting reveals today in the Developer Diary #3. Right off the bat we have a first look at Spinosaurus (at 3:26), another new pterosaur (at 3:50, Tupandactylus or Tapejara), a look at raptor's climbing the fence (at 3:12; which was confirmed recently in the recent Park Management Enclosure forum post), as well as a look at the mixed era's (at 3:17; which will only be on PC and the newer consoles such as PS5, and whatever the new XBOX is).

Time for me to go update the op with this new stuff.

I got a little worried watching the video, hearing "pick from Jurassic Park or Jurassic World eras in sandbox" and thinking that they had totally canned mixed eras. Thankfully the forum post confirmed that new-gen consoles still have mixed eras. (I'm trying to get a ps5 now.)

I've seen on reddit that Archaeornithomimus and Euoplocephalus are returning. Guessing they were name dropped or something on today's stream (edit: Seen in a BestinSlot video that they were visible from the hatchery menu in the Jurassic Park Chaos Theory mode). I'm really happy about the latter returning though. Loved using those in my parks.

Possible roster total spoilers:
Spoiler

In other news there's been a lot of speculation about a possible 107 species spotted from something in the stream, but word is out already that a leaker (well rather a guy that got the game early somehow) confirmed there being 79 species and the rest are genes. Guessing this was regarding the database entries? At this point I'm wondering what made the cut, and what didn't. I have long been speculating 79 as the max though. Guess we'll know more with nearly 10 days remaining until release on the 9th.
[close]
In any case I'll once again update the lists in the op.

Edit: This is the video for anyone interested. I'll be checking it out shortly, but it is over an hour long. I'll add timestamps to when or where the Archaeornithomimus and the Euoplocephalus are (or mentioned). Edit: Can be seen at about the 1 hour, 3 min mark in the hatchery menu.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SICGBM_GB3k

Final roster speculation/slight Dominion species spoilers:

Spoiler
Edit 2: So there are at least 54 or 56 confirmed, give or take Stygimoloch or Homalocephale (can't remember if those have been confirmed now. Think the last time we saw them they had placeholder images? The former is a film canon animal so makes sense for it to be in the game anyways). Maybe 57 if Ceratosaurus was revealed today as well (I mean it is also a film canon animal so I have no doubts about it returning). See below image (which came from this reddit post):

If the base roster is really 79 species, then subtracting the potential 57, that leaves 22 species in the base roster we don't know about for sure yet. If including Giganotosaurus and Dreadnoughtus, then that leaves 20 left then. There are still 24 (including Ceratosaurus, Giganotosaurus, and Dreadnoughtus), from the original/first game we haven't seen in any good capacity at this point (if at all).

Those being:
Albertosaurus (Claire)
Ankylodocus (Dr. Wu)
Carcharodontosaurus (Cretaceous)
Ceratosaurus
Deinonychus
Dreadnoughtus (Cretaceous)
Edmontosaurus
Giganotosaurus
Herrerasaurus (Carnivore)
Iguanodon (Cretaceous)
Metriacanthosaurus
Muttaburrasaurus
Nigersaurus (Herbivore)
Nodosaurus
Olorotitan (Dr. Wu)
Ouranosaurus (Claire)
Pentaceratops
Polacanthus
Proceratosaurus (Carnivore)
Sauropelta
Spinoraptor (Dr. Wu)
Stegoceratops (Dr. Wu)
Styracosaurus (Deluxe)
Tsintaosaurus

If the Dr. Wu DLC hybrids are cut, then that would leave 21 from the above, that may or may not get included in the base game. Really at this point it's probably the 3 hybrids, 3 Dominion animals, and Ouranosaurus that are up in the air. I think based on the confirmed additions of things like the Archaeornithomimus, or Gigantspinosaurus, which weren't the most popular, but are included in the base game, the rest are probably going to return, which is 17, subtracting the 7 above. If subtracting the 17 alongside the 56 (including Stygimoloch and Homalocephale here) from a total of 79 that leaves 6 left. If the 3 Dominion animals and Ouranosaurus are included in the base game, with their JWE designs, then that still leaves 2 species of the entire roster left. So at the very least I think the hybrids will be cut, and we could see at least 2 more new species or more. Possibly 1 new pterosaur, and 1 new dinosaur. Granted the precedent set by the Huayangosaurus being included into the Deluxe Edition/DLC roster, does possibly mean others could be cut from the base game and show up in future DLC too. I'll be curious to see how much any of this holds true come the 9th (or earlier)!
[close]

Another edit: The final roster has been leaked now.
Spoiler

Looks like my speculation above was right. The 79 did hold true (honestly would have preferred 80 even with Huayangosaurus returning and something else new like Miragaia in the deluxe pack instead). We did indeed see the 3 Dr. Wu hybrids cut, the remaining dinosaurs, including the Dominion ones and Ouranosaurus have returned with JWE based designs, and we did get 2 new species, one being a pterosaur (Maaradactylus, considering the species name I guess it makes sense to include it after all), and 1 dinosaur (Cryolophosaurus which I am beyond stoked for, and hopefully it is included in the new Taiga and/or Alpine environments). Here's a link with all the silhouettes. The recently revealed pterosaur appears to be Tapejara after all based on its A-Z positioning, and the new mosasaur also appears to be Tylosaurus as well, again based on its positioning.

At this point there are probably few other animals I'd like to see through future DLC (such as Rhamphorhynchus, and Yutyrannus if they ever do feathered animals beyond the Dominion ones. Concavenator is another theropod I'd really like to see, and another widely requested, aside from the above Cryolophosaurus. Psittacosaurus and Protoceratops are other two popular ornithischians I'd really like. Edit: Can't believe I forgot Lambeosaurus as well.).

Also the thing I thought could be Ceratosaurus in the image I added last night is actually the new Giganotosaurus design. Seen here.

I will not update the op until on or after the 9th with this information however, for folks avoiding such spoilers, and because it was leaked after all.

I'm finding myself torn between getting the game for my X-box One or waiting until I get the new X-box, which likely won't be any time soon. Decisions.

avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi It's been confirmed that there will be a free upgrade from last gen consoles to the new ones for the game. Not sure how it will work for xbox but it looks like Playstation users will just need to use the PS4 disc/physical version when switching to PS5. I'll try to do some more digging on this.

Also should have mentioned this in the above but I saw confirmation that the game will be able to be preloaded prior to its release on the 9th, and that there will be a Day 1 patch as well that will need installed.
Edit: Found this which has info regarding it, but not much. They do at least confirm the free upgrade thing though, and that last gen consoles will not get mixed era's, and will have a cap of 50 species per park (not individual animals though).

Thanks for the info avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin, it's good to know that I won't have to wait for the new X-box or pay twice for the same game. I'm not sure when I'll actually get it but it won't be next week, it will probably be what I'll be asking for come Christmas.

Day 1 patch, as always, games are released unfinished...

I think it's a perfect "Jurassic-ization" of the animal. It's not going to be accurate, and I think this design fits well with the other guys. The spike neck is the only weird design choice.
Most (if not all) Rebor figures are mid

Faelrin

I feel like it looks too similar to the Mosasaurus. On the other hand at least it isn't another WWD clone I guess. I'm still glad to have it regardless.

a perfect "Jurassic-ization" of the animal would be a not flawless but still solid design, you know like the T rex, every animal from the first 3 movies, and most of the theropods introduced in JWE 1 and 2. especially that cryolophosaurus. wow that thing is gorgeous.

they tried to go with a crocodile thing for the body (giant blue and white marine reptile with crocodile spikes? oh wow i bet they haven't done that yet!) and a sea turtle thing with the flippers.

why not go all out with the turtle thing? i think a Leatherback sea turtle colour scheme/inspired skin integument would look superb, those big ridges, a different shade of blue! and the white lines. not a WWD clone! but not awful.

(art by kingrexy on deviantart, closest i could get to finding a design that matches the one i described.)

it is identical to the mosasaurus, which considering the mosasaurus is the worst designed marine reptile in the franchise,

is not a good thing.

avatar_Reuben03 @Reuben03 Just a heads up but you are going to be disappointed with what they did with the Elasmosaurus and Tylosaurus heads as well. At least the Ichthyosaurus, Plesiosaurus, and Attenborosaurus are pretty nice looking.

So some issues I think folks should be aware of now that the content embargo has been lifted.

Spoiler tagging it just in case, but I really do caution folks to read this stuff:
Spoiler

Right off the bat pack hunting is insanely broken, and not in a good way. Nothing can run away like in JPOG. Things just stand there for the pack hunters to constantly re-attach. Pack hunters can be killed, but seldomly. They can even kill large sauropods like Brachiosaurus with extreme ease. It has me concerned about the rest of the hunting. Sauropods have no ways to defend themselves against large carnivores either, which has been seen earlier on in some of the Chaos Theory San Diego videos.
Marine reptiles might not be able to co-exist, but might be too early to say because of the territory system. I was hoping Ichthyosaurus and Plesiosaurus could co-habituate, but they can't apparently.

The campaign is only 5 short missions, and seems relatively easy to do. Might be a good thing for folks. However you can't use the maps from it in sandbox however, only the maps from Challenge and Chaos Theory mode. You also can't switch between maps like the first game in campaign. Lastly I've heard rumors that it isn't possible to disable combat for sandbox mode like the first game, which is something I enjoyed for semi-Site B styled parks, or parks/enclosures based around a particular formation.
