Rheic Studio

I have searched but have not found anything on this line of sculptures. Anyone have any info on this studio?

I'm surprised by the number and type of animals offered especially by Lanatime Shop, there are quite a few interesting species! but I would like to have opinions on the fineness of details and the overall quality, as it is 3d printing.

The prices are high but it's still cheaper than 1/35 or 1/20 resin statues, Rheic seems to be positioned between the high end PVC figurines and the famous resin statues, but I don't see any in any collection, I don't have any painted images for example

Anyone have any info or models in hand?

User C @callmejoe3 showed his Rheic Livyatitan a while back. That's the only Rheic model I can remember seeing here at the DTF.

Here is also a Xiphactinus from Rheic painted by jagsaurus. It's the only one that I found. The painting of C @callmejoe3's Livyatitan is not original if? There would be a huge difference with the photo of the painted model available for sale.

How much does that figure cost in dollars?

Psittacoraptor

Lanatimeshop has some Rheic models for preorder. The Xiphactinus is 70$ unpainted and 135$ painted:

Obviously not cheap, and I have no idea if the final product you receive will look exactly like that, but it does look great.

I can't imagine how many pieces that eurypterid would arrive in. I ordered the relatively simple Ctenacanthus, and it was broken in a few places. I feel like Lana is being pretty sloppy about packaging.

Did they refund/replace?  they took extra care with my Nanmu standing brachiosaurus.

avatar_Blade-of-the-Moon @Blade-of-the-Moon no, they just said, "Can you glue it?" and offered no recompense of any kind. I can glue it but I shouldn't have to. I don't plan to buy from them again.

Their Allosaurus is too close to comfort to the Shane foulkes' Allosaurus.
And some of their other models seems strangely familiar to statues I know from old.

Wow no kidding. Some of them aren't even old, these two are literally just the Alexander Belov Prey Collection models, slightly retooled. He sells the STL files for 3d printing, so maybe he approved this, but somehow I doubt it considering there's no credit for the base sculpt.

Yeah pretty sure they just took the STLs and are now printing them under their brand. Grrr.

Stealing someone else's design? Yet another reason I'm reticent to buy 3-D printed stuff. Even if the quality were decent, which is rare, a company can come out with a dozen figures I would need for my collection, and all with three figure prices. Now there's variants with open/closed mouths, different bases, etc.? Ugh.

Frustratingly, the STLs are like $10-15 and the cost to print them is NOT 3 figures. When Alexander was selling his own prints of these models they were way less than a hundred before shipping... I paid $45 for his Dunkleosteus in the same scale. Granted he's in Russia so the cost to produce may be lower there, but along the same lines, I have other 3d printed models in similar sizes from US printers and I've never paid over $100 for them.

Even if it wasn't possibly art theft, it still feels like a ripoff.

Agreed. Even unpainted, the figures I'm interested in are over $100 on lanatimes, some even $250. Is it possible to contact this Alexander? Was the print quality good?

Here's his FB (how I've contacted him in the past, usually very responsive):
https://www.facebook.com/PREYcollectionStudio

He doesn't print his own models anymore. He moved to just selling a STL files a couple of years ago, but you can still buy all of them here:
https://www.myminifactory.com/users/PREYcollectionSTUDIO

When he was doing them, the print quality was very good. Nowadays I guess it depends on who you find to print for you. The quality has gone way up over the years- here's one I got a few weeks ago from a printer on Etsy. Around 6" long (so very similar in size to the Rheic models) but only $75. Very good quality, only needs minimal cleanup.

I've noticed this too. There's this ebay seller that makes 3D printed, obscure prehistoric mammals, and have been doing so for quite the while now.
You can see a clear difference in quality & detail between their most recent pieces vs their older ones. And a noticeable decrease in print lines.

Yes, I bought from him when his prints first appeared. I was disappointed with the result - those wood grain-like lines as in the older picture here. I've avoided 3D printed stuff since, but it looks like he's gotten a better printer. Might have to go in for a couple models of his I've been ogling.

This is an extremely normal practice in 3D printing.

If an STL file is for sale, someone who buys it can sell copies of those prints. They can't re-sell the digital files, but they can sell the prints themselves all they want. What's odd is the fact they bothered creating new branding.

Ha! The plesiosaur outline in their logo is clearly based on one of my early (2002) illustrations:

The illustration is free to reuse under a Creative Commons licence (CC BY-SA 2.5) so long as credit is given. I suppose the outline in the logo is different enough for it to be considered a completely new artwork, so no credit is required, but it still seems iffy.
