Pentaceratops (World of History by Schleich)

…photographic opportunities for my model dinosaur photography. Overall, I love this figure, especially being the ceratopsian fanatic that I am. It’s dynamic, well detailed and different. A real step up from the other not-so-accurate models that Schleich has produced of recent. Apart from some minor flaws, I think this model is well worth picking up and will make a nice addition to your collection. Available from Amazon.com here….

Tyrannosaurus rex (2014 resculpt version) (World of History by Schleich)

…ilar, where the knee turns to wrinkles back down to fine scales and to the feet which have bird-like scales. The 2012 Schleich T. rex model had yellow spots on its neck, which was usually disliked amongst collectors. I didn’t like it either, but in the 2014 model these spots are now gone, and it definitely looks better without them. Instead, you can now see faint little ‘bumps’ on closer inspection. The colour scheme is decent, but not unique. The…

Dilophosaurus (Papo)

…to the original posture. We have seen from Papo’s earlier Allosaurus that free-standing theropods can be achieved, so it feels like a step backwards here. Comparison between Papo’s Allosaurus and Dilophosaurus. Secondly, I’m not so sure if the posture of the tail was entirely possible on a theropod. There was some degree of flexibility to it, but here it feels too lizard-y and whip like. I would have preferred to see the tail stretched out behind…

Feathered Dinos Tube (Safari Ltd)

…aurs are all theropods and are depicted with plumage to some degree. A four-winged Microraptor is posed in mid-flight with its feathered arms, legs and tail outstretched. Microraptor It is worth noting that these figures are also available individually in the form of key rings. Indeed, a small Microraptor has been following me around as a fashionable backpack accessory for some time. Beipiaosaurus The cumbersome animal Beipiaosaurus is portrayed p…

Discover Dinosaurs: Dino Jurassic Vol. 3 (Colorata)

…ather than on the front of the snout. The figure is still nicely detailed in the skin and musculature, and the blue/gray color scheme appears befitting for such a large creature, without looking totally drab. While this set has its share of flaws on a figure-by-figure basis, collectors should find plenty to appreciate in Colorata’s 3rd dinosaur volume, and I foresee younger audiences having a blast with these too. If you can’t purchase it from Col…

Indominus Rex (Electronic Chomping Version)(Jurassic World by Hasbro)

…oles in my opinion. The only issue I’ve had with it is that it has some difficulty balancing, but even this is fairly minor. If you are going to get any JW figure I recommend you get this one, a solid 8/10 from me! Figure available from Amazon.com here and Amazon.co.uk here….

Tyrannosaurus rex (Papo)

…n ear-hole. But, best of all, it is in the ever-famous ‘victory roar’ pose from the first Jurassic Park movie (even though it is the JP3 Tyrannosaur). All in all, and inaccuracies aside, this is a great and affordable ((currently $18.95 US at Amazon.com) replica that is recommended to anyone who loves Jurassic Park, Tyrannosaurus, or just dinosaurs in general. Thanks to fellow dinosaur toy forum members kevin, horridus, sid and meso-cenozoic for h…

Edmontosaurus (Schleich)(2023)

…the color scheme: the sandy brown base color is punctuated by swirling coffee-brown stripes across the body and hind legs, with aqua blue highlighting the neck and face. It’s an eye-catching color scheme and probably one of Schleich’s better schemes – albeit one that’s lifted straight from the character model of the online game Jurassic World Evolution. Some collectors will roll their eyes at seeing yet another toy aping the Jurassic franchise so…

Tsintaosaurus (CollectA)

…been in a spiteful mood that day) decided to add on two air sacs under rod-shaped crest. Air sacs are commonly depicted on hadrosaurs for the sake of the animals being able to produce loud noises much like the inflatable sacs on modern day frogs, toads and Frigate Birds. Now for other species of hadrosaurs this looks perfectly fine and I have even seen renditions of Tsintaosaurus itself with little balloon sacs that simply differ in size or place…

Velociraptor (Feathered Version by Papo)

…Fine lines sculpted into the surface may be an attempt to illustrate lizard-like scales. The lips look rather snake-ish, with huge circular scutes along their edges. Unfortunately, the accuracy problems don’t stop with the integument. The whole of the animal is desperately shrink-wrapped. The fenestrae (openings in the skull) are visible, and even the feathery covering doesn’t keep the poor beast’s hips and shoulder blades from poking out of its s…

Triceratops ‘Doyle’ (Age of the Dinosaurs by PNSO)

…nicely, though. They have a very plastic look to them which is distracting compared the other well-painted parts. I would love to see this done in polystone (the Vitae Giganotosaurus base really spoiled me). Also on the base are two footprints to mount the model on. There’s a large peg for the hind foot to plug into. Doyle fits very snugly into his prints. Moving on to the model itself, I have to say this is one of the best Triceratops out there….

Triceratops (Version 2, Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd)

…riginal Carnegie Triceratops, but since this was a pretty forgettable three-horned-face anyway, this isn’t really saying much. Ceratopsian collectors will want this figure, as will anyone hunting a complete set of the Carnegies; but it seems to me that for anyone who is just looking for a handsome 1:40 triceratops for display purposes, the collectA trike is probably the better option. Unfortunately, as graphically illustrated above, the museum…

Pteranodon (Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd)

…Carnegie old with the Carnegie new – this toy shows how far Carnegie have come in the last 20 years. Still available from Safari.com (here) and Amazon.com (here)…

Therizinosaurus (Deluxe version by CollectA)

…small beige human figure for scale. This one is decked out like a field researcher complete with sun hat, binoculars, backpack, and pickaxe. If we assume that the human is meant to be six feet tall, this would make the Therizinosaurus around 30 feet tall, which is far greater than any size estimates I’ve seen. Still, given how few actual bones of this dinosaur have been found, who is to say for certain how big it could grow? Therizinosaurus has l…

Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus (Sega Dinosaur King, 2014 Reissues)

…as a toy. Trixie however, has no such limitations. My two-year old son more-or-less ignores the Rex, but tells me the Triceratops is “lovely” and enjoys playing with it while his odd, dinosaur-collecting father monitors the situation carefully to ensure that no scuff-marks get onto the paint finish. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the Sega Triceratops is probably the best Triceratops toy available on the market today – only its rarity an…

Albertosaurus (Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd)

…contribute to the fact that the model can balance perfectly on its own two feet so I’ll keep my complaining to a minimum. Look, Ma! NO TAIL! The detail on this figure is decent but doesn’t really blow me away like some of Wild Safari’s newest models do. It’s covered in a healthy amount of lines and wrinkles with what could be considered scales here and there. The thing that really irks me though is the fact that the teeth on this guy seem to just…

Dilophosaurus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd)

…sition of the nostrils could use some tweaking. He stands just fine on two feet, however, to accomplish that, you have to stand him on the edge of a table or desk— The tip of his tail extends below the bottoms of his feet, so when he stands on a flat surface, he is in the hated “tripod” or “kangaroo” pose. Overall, this is a very fine replica, and it will look great in any collection. However, since this sculpt was released only a few days ago, it…
