Hey, here's another quick update from the world of Power Rangers:

Filming for the new movie has officially wrapped as of Saturday! Further information isn't expected until autumn.

The Legacy toyline is going strong; the Legacy Communicator, Legacy Ninja Megazord, and Legacy Movie Morphers are available for preorder. This is our first good look at the Ninja Megazord, since the prototype was not available during the latest Toy Fair:

Also up for preorder is something totally unexpected - a Legacy Red Ranger helmet, designed to be worn or displayed! I personally hope BanDai doesn't stop with Red - I have a Blue one, but it's terribly fragile and I hate to wear it out of concern for its safety. Something made from tough plastic instead of thin fiberglass would be most welcome. However, in strange lapse, Red's Tyrannosaurus teeth appear to have been left unpainted here. One hopes this will be corrected.

The new Legacy figure line announced at the Toy Fair has some promo photos as well. The weapons look great, and I admire the painted details - but I was really hoping they'd finally break away from the muscular look. As usual with BanDai America, these look like shirtless bodybuilders with colorful paint on them. They do not look like Power Rangers.

Finally, the decision to start this new figure lineup with Ninja Storm as well as Mighty Morphin' may be related to the next season, for which we now have a logo and synopsis:

"Saban's Power Rangers Ninja Steel starts deep in space, where Zircon is the reigning champion of the most popular intergalactic game show in the universe, and monsters battle to prove who is the mightiest warrior. Zircon is determined to become invincible by controlling the mythical Spirit Crystal, which contains six supernatural Ninja Power Throwing Stars. The only thing standing in his way is a new team of heroic teenage Power Rangers who possess the Spirit Crystal. The evil Zircon sends his warrior contestants down to Earth to steal the Crystal, where each epic battle against the Rangers is broadcast throughout the universe. Together, the Rangers must master their arsenal of Throwing Stars, Zords and Megazords, each made of legendary ninja steel, in order to stop this evil threat and save our planet from destruction."

Work on other promotional material has also begun, including stock photography of the characters in-suit. This image is a work-in-progress, hence the Photoshop selection in action, but it is interesting to note that the team's Gold Ranger (originally called StarNinger) is already included in the lineup:

Well, obviously they are Powerful Rangers:

They just got cheap on the paint apps.  ;D

It's not only the guys. Blue Wind Ranger ( and likely every other female after her ) also has some weird proportions.

As for Zyuranger: Yep, the Kids are a problem.  I mean they even had an elf kid who was still one after 170 million years...Okay, Elves are long-lived but that is ridicolous.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Well, obviously they are Powerful Rangers:

Ah, yes, Powerful Rangers! Akibaranger had it right all along. The sad bit is, that's not too much of am exaggeration beyond some of the figures and comics we actually get.

Bringing this thread back to life with some news! We have a tagline:

I think it's great - understated, but very much true to the spirit of the property. Also, a good sentiment to keep in mind these days.
Perhaps yet more interesting - the first teaser poster will hit tomorrow!

Patrx

Okay, folks, the four or five of you who read this thread might be glad to know that we have DinoZords!

I think they look great so far - particularly the Triceratops! Any thoughts?

Derek.McManus

I recall that this show was not encouraged when my kids where at primary school as ' rough play' led to at least one broken limb in the playground!

Although I do not care about power rangers and such I watched the trailer for curiosity and.....
Why trying to make something (Don´t trying to be offensive here) silly and that you can´t take it seriously into something dark and serious? The nolan-izer ray has hit this one hard.

Silvanusaurus

It looks more in line with the Michael Bay school of re-adaptations than anything Nolan would do.

Im not saying this is like a Nolan movie
When I say nolan-izer ray I mean that this movie is going for the route that the dark knight trilogy established for movies, to make them better, make them darker.
Maybe Nolan-izer is not the best term. But you have to agree that now a lot of this kinds of movies go for the dark and "depressing" theme, because they think that if it worked with previous films, it will work with this one. Michael bay re-adaptation do have a little bit of darkness, but not to the point that this trailer shows.

That´s all I have to say, I don´t care about this movie so I´m leaving this thread. See you in other threads :)

PD: This Image resumes what I´m trying to say:

While the first third or so of the teaser is not remotely promising, the rest of it does give me some hope that the film will not waste all of its time in high school dealing with dull personal problems. I can also understand why the studio wanted to include those elements - this is Lionsgate's attempt at Hunger Games or Divergent. Teen soap opera with a sci-fi bent. Too early to tell if it will actually work. Tonally, I hope the film is more positive than this overall.

And we get a look at the Morpher, Sword and "T-Rex Zord":

Looks like Megazord toy will be big...

IT'S XENOMORPHING TIME!

Okay, it looks a bit like Emmerich's take on Godzilla, now named Zilla, too thanks to the chin. Also a pretty bad place for the cockpit.

I'm holding judgement until I see the actual CGI model rather than the "cheap" plastic toy.

And am I the only one that likes that these kids have flaws and problems in their daily lives rather than being a bunch of perfect popular kids?
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

Good point. For some reasons Bandai America tends to add guns to everything...

Them having flaws is okay, but people don't watch movies like that for the teenage drama.

Ooooooh... Smells like cheap toxic plastic...

Patrx

Action figures and their ilk seem to have gotten rather a lot cheaper over time, at least for the kids' market. Missing paint, visible screw holes, hollow molds. The Morpher reminds me of a 1995 fast food promo toy.

More importantly, now we know what the Red Zord looks like! Although I'm not enamored with it, it could have been so much worse. Now I just need to see the Triceratops.

I don't hate it as long as they're not actually jerks. Although I also wouldn't mind if they were straightforward "nice" kids either. If I have any concerns on that front, it's that the movie, which probably won't be very long, will spend all of its runtime developing the characters  and have insufficient time for superhero action. Balance is key here, we don't want another Godzilla 2014. Or, on the other hand, another Transformers.

CityRaptor

Exactly. Not only was it way too much human screen time as opposed to the main attraction, it was also the least interesting humans.

Speaking of toy zords

Looks like getting the auxilary ones for Ninja Steel could become rather expensive.

Yowza. I like the Ninninger mecha overall, but I don't tend to collect zords for cost and space reasons, and when I do I find the BoA Legacy products or BoJ pieces are more to my liking. I understand the draw of BoA's Zord Builder gimmick, but it's a little distracting visually. The Soul of Chogokin Megazord set looks like it might actually be worth the zany price tag, though...

I may be ahead of myself here, but I have to wonder what Saban thinks of the Zyuohger mecha? It's hard for me to imagine them selling very well. I wonder if they might even go back and adapt Go-Busters instead?

Depends on if Minecraft is still popular, I guess.

A look at the Movie Megazord:

This is a non transformable action figure.
Looks more like a guy in fancy armor than a giant robot made of smaller robots, don't you think?
Judging by this, from top to bottom:
Pteranodon = head and wings
Tyrannosaurus = upper torso and at least upper arms
Smilodon = lower torso
Triceratops = legs
Mammoth = various pieces of armor

Edit: Look at the combined toy:

Same configuration as before, but Triceratops and Mammoth are the legs, while the head comes from Tyrnnosaurus and Pteranodon gets the splits...

I feel like I keep coming back to this phrase when discussion these movie designs, but it could have been so much worse!
It seemss like a really slick, cool-looking anime robot, which is perfectly palatable even though I was hoping for something more boxy and retro. It is a little confusing to see how different the combining figure is from the interactive one - presumably the combination process in the film itself will be either physically impossible or too complex to reproduce in a cheapo plastic  toy. Final assessment will have to wait until we see how it looks onscreen, of course, since these are likely to be missing many details and lots of paint.
