The pose is the best part of this figure.
But the Safari one is better in all other aspects: sculpt (lips), paint job and price.
I've been waiting for ages for an Albertosaurus, and I would have bought this one if Pnso had released it earlier.
But it's too late, Safari did better imo.
Just lacking the articulated jaw.

Still a nice figure

On one of the release images the new Albertosaurus is attacking a ceratopsian. Can anyone identify what species that is? Could this be a hint to a new forthcoming figure? There have been some loose rumors of some species which included also one ceratopsian.

Just a heads up: starting today, there's a sale going on over at AliExpress for the next three days. So it's a good time to pick up PNSO figures again. Looks like I'll be picking up the Daspletosaurus and Lythronax this week.  :)

QuoteAs you may remember, "I love PNSO", which seems to be best known for their models (& for good reason: https://www.deviantart.com/jd-man/journal/SD-My-dino-media-wishlist-901438371 ). That said, I love them most for their books, which may be the best of their kinds, especially the natural histories ( https://www.deviantart.com/jd-man/journal/SD-Top-4-children-s-natural-histories-of-dinos-924726008 ). I seriously hope all their books are published in English, especially the "Children's Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs series" (As of this posting, Holtz's "Dinosaurs" still hasn't been updated & no other dino encyclopedia for kids comes close: http://www.pnso.org/?p=1464 ) & the "Dinosaur Museum series" (which, based on this interview, combines the best aspects of "Zoobooks" & "DK Eyewitness Books" w/Chuang's artistic & Yang's story-telling expertise: http://www.pnso.org/?p=1498 ). It's also worth mentioning their Youtube channel, which (in addition to Witton's "The Palaeoartist's Handbook: Recreating Prehistoric Animals in Art") is an especially good source for those who wanna learn to draw prehistoric animals ( https://www.youtube.com/@PNSO2010/playlists ).

I can't remember if I already posted the PNSO part of "My dino media wishlist" (in ref to "& for good reason"), so here it is.

QuoteA PNSO-published Natural History of Dinos in the style of Burton's "The Age of Dinosaurs: A Photographic Record" ( https://chasmosaurs.blogspot.com/search/label/Jane%20Burton ): As you may remember, I love dino dioramas ( https://www.amazon.com/review/R3F47215A3OEHY/ref=cm_cr_srp_d_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8 ). As you may also remember, I love PNSO ( https://www.amazon.com/review/R3R6KZA4VWB8E6/ref=cm_cr_srp_d_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8 ), especially their dino models ( https://www.paleo-nerd.com/tag/pnso/ ). Gripes aside, said models are so detailed & realistic that they should be in museum dioramas like the Smithsonian's ( http://agathaumas.blogspot.com/2011/05/annual-report-for-year-ended-june-30.html ). I'd especially love it if, like said models, this hypothetical NHD was updated every few years (& thus, always up-to-date, like many bird field guides: https://betterbirdphotography.com/bird-field-guides/ ).

Quote from: Stegotyranno420 on July 09, 2023, 10:19:02 PMI dont mean anything rude towards Doug Watson, his Albertosaurus is also lovely, but the colors just arent my cup of tea, and manufacturing can erase some detail. I appreciate and applaud him for traditional sculpting.
But I still think PNSO's is much better for my tastes. I think this is the best one. If this was not released with so many theropods already, then maybe it will gather better responses. Is the colourscheme boring or redundant? Yes, but I still like it. It is very dynamic, which is unique.
Do people prefer safari's for lips?
The detail on the Safari 2022 Albertosaurus is top tier, it's amazing.  I don't think the PNSO Albertosaurus's colour scheme is redundant, I just find it boring, like you said.  I don't care much about lips, I prefer the head on Safari's Albertosaurus, the PNSO looks like it has a nose horn and it just looks like it has a dragon's head...  I also prefer the colouration of the Safari Albertosaurus, as I find the colouration interesting.

To me, it is crazy to think that the addition of lips makes this model seem more realistic and actually alive.

I still think I prefer dinosaur_models_artworks due to the full repaint.

Good lord, this is incredible. Easily the definitive for me. Thanks for posting this!!

avatar_Over9K @Over9K Really appreciate the side by side comparison with both their older T. rex models, and Rebor's Tusk, etc. This is definitely their best T. rex yet I think. I'm definitely still tempted to get this, but at the same time with Eofauna's eventually on the way (if not like a new Safari Ltd one), I really should just hold off and wait and see if my thoughts change. Would love to get a customized one with lips added (and perhaps the Tarbosaurus, etc as well to be consistent), but it's already pretty pricey for what it is, lol. Wouldn't be this year that's for sure with everything else on my plate I am still saving up for.

Anyone have an idea on how much some of those customizers charge for something as simple as lips added (and paint touch up to blend them in), assuming any are in the US? I like the rest of the coloration and don't need a full blown repaint per se. Would be a good to have an idea if this is something attainable for like next year or whatever. Granted I could probably pull it off myself as well, since I do have a little experience with sculpting, and a lot of tools for it, but not sure what material I'd need or the exact paint color.

I knew they were pretty similar, looks like Rebor might be a little bigger? More detail on the scales and such too.

The Rebor Tyrannosaurus is larger than 1:30 scale, closer to 1:25, so I'd hope Cameron is smaller

Hank Sharpe's reconstruction is very different from other skeletals and he states that it isn't based on old museum skull mounts or the usual specimen people usually take from. It has a much higher swing to the back of the head which he says isn't due to deformation. In [very messy] editing, the PNSO sculpt doesn't match it, but it does moreso than the references we're more accustomed to.
On and off dinosaur collecting phases over the span of millions of years has led me to this very forum.

It might be a bit smaller but a cursory glance seems like they are pretty similar. Might could pass a larger specimen at the same scale.

Cameron is based on Sue which is already one of the biggest known specimen. Tusk is in a larger scale, the difference between  them is actually bigger than avatar_Over9K @Over9K suggests. Cameron is not far of from 1:35 scale for Sue, while Tusk is, depending on which specimen you take as reference, more like 1:28 to 1:30 scale.

Hey guys, sorry for the interruption but I was planning on taking advantage of AliExpress' sale by buying one or two figures alongside Haolonggood's Pentaceratops and I would like some advice please, as I'm a newbie down here. My collection is more Ornithischian-oriented, so here are my options:
Corythosaurus
Pachycephalosaurus
Olorotitan
Pinacosaurus
Styracosaurus
Therizinosarus
Spinosaurus (but I'd rather wait for Rebor's DIO)
I'm a bit on a budget right now, so any >40 usd figure is out of reach.
Thanks in advance  :)

Hmm I guess? They just don't seem too far off to out of the realm of possibility.

I did notice something else, aren't more updated reconstructions doing the shorter tongues now?

Hi, I have all of them except the Spinosaurus. If I had to choose two from this list, I would go for Styracosaurus and Therizinosarus. Both have the most recent and most refined style of sculpting and paint work of PNSO. The sculpting of the feathers on the Therizinosarus is just amazing, only topped by the work on the Deinocheirus I would say. The other ones are a bit older as you probably know. They are all nice in terms of sculpting and paint application, but not at the level of the other two I would say. Others may see this completely different of course.

ceratopsian

avatar_TlatolophusJuanorum @TlatolophusJuanorum - I have all of those models you list and I'm more of an ornithischian person too. I really enjoy my Pinacosaurus. My other suggestion is the Therizinosaurus. It lies outside my core collecting area but is quite amazing.

fair warning that i only have the corythosaurus out of those so i can't really compare between them, but on its own merits it's one of the most beautiful mass-produced figures i've ever seen and i highly recommend it. the only other figure i have that i think carries the same level of elegance is the 2012 carnegie brachiosaurus. i really want the olorotitan and the therizinosaurus too though, they look incredible in the pics i've seen!
