I would love to see photos when someone has one in hand! They are a lot cheaper than I wan expecting... curious to see "in hand" photos and comparisons.

Hmmm...I'm tempted but on the fence. If I do, I will probably also go for the red one, it looks less like a movie monster.

@ Faelrin, thank you! Any of the Safaris should work as I am familiar with those models.

@Bmathison, I am in the same boat. I would have preferred the red one in a gray coat as the current gray one has some movie/video game details I don't like (they aren't intended to be realistic I know, I would just prefer it be more natural looking). The red one still isn't quite "dire wolf" enough for me but I DO think it is a very nice attempt and probably the only reasonable attempt for a while that will be made for this species given the history and cliché surrounding it. I probably will get the red one since it is much more affordable than I thought it'd be.

avatar_Saarlooswolfhound @Saarlooswolfhound - I hope you review it for the DTB :). If so, you should reserve it with avatar_suspsy @suspsy (don't you like how I am always volunteering you for these things LOL  8)  C:-)  O:-) )

And it should be well received on this forum because it has LIPS!!!!  >:D  8)  :P

Faelrin

B @bmathison1972 I already had asked to review it, but if avatar_Saarlooswolfhound @Saarlooswolfhound would like to instead I would be welcome to it.

The grey one is specifically based on the Game of Thrones tv series dire wolf design. I didn't watch it, but I have come across the design when searching for dire wolf stuff before.

Ha, you do keep doing that Blaine, but luckily it is usually models I would be happy to do (Yay canids!)

@ Faelrin, you are more than welcome to review it of course! I already have a few review reservations I should do before the end of the year, so I probably wouldn't be able to do it justice anyhow... I look forward to what you are able to make of it. :)

Blade-of-the-Moon

Given the price point maybe Rebor will release them in other colors too? Timberwolf, Arctic, even a black wolf?

Saarlooswolfhound

If they added other color schemes to the "low roar" sculpt I would invest in them. :D

Oof talk about a major downgrade on the final paint application from the prior prototype pics. I don't recall something like this happening to their other recent figures? Heck even their re-issue of the Woodland Stegosaurus I recently got still remains top notch, so what happened here? Like I was really looking forward to this one too (particularly the more accurate Aenocyon variant), but this bums me out. I hope they can correct this in a future re-issue. Edit: The seams on 2 of the heads (not where the head joins to the body, because that's part of the swappable heads feature), is also unfortunate and detracts from the sculpt.

For comparison here's the prototype pics on BBTS:

At first I thought the lighting was just really harsh, but that does look like a downgrade.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Jeez..I'm kinda tempted to cancel my order. If it was just paint I could deal and have it repainted, but the teeth aren't anything near as nice as the sabretooth. They are thick and heavily painted. I think the Sabretooth had cast teeth not paint, much like Nanmu's dinosaurs. They give you that opaque/ translucent feel of real enamel.   I don't know if they went cheaper or this is a factory issue but..woof.

Faelrin

avatar_Blade-of-the-Moon @Blade-of-the-Moon Yeah I picked up on that too. Rebor's always done an amazing job with their teeth, so this feels out of character for them. The eyes are also poorly painted. It almost looks like a bootleg honestly.

Yes exactly. I saw the comment on the eyes but forgot it. I'm getting Mattel vibes?  I think I'm going to going to go ahead and cancel these, shame too as I really wanted them to go with my sabretooth and werewolves.   Maybe if something changes I'll reorder.

The teeth are too small. Those front teeth are less than 1mm long and 0.5mm wide, the canine teeth are less than 3mm, it's just impossible to apply the translucent technique to them. Our Gorilla Z also have painted teeth instead of translucent ones and they were so small that most people didn't even notice the difference.

And they weren't cheap at all, the mould cost more than that of the Smilodon, the manufacture cost was roughly the same since they come with 3 head sculpts so honestly the listing prices should be around 50 quid or 60 dollars, plus we've spent more than a year on prototype development and the total cost of the project became so high that we simply couldn't make the price structure justifiable if we want to profit so we decided to sell them cheap and only do one single batch much like the Titanboa's story.

You have no idea how heartbroken we felt when reading your guys' comments. Isn't it a bit too rushed to draw conclusions from just one single review video? Since when the market has become so impatient and unforgiving? This is 2024 and even 3.75 inch figures cost more than 20 quid yet people are still not happy with these super detailed 7 inch dire wolf figures with 3 interchangeable heads that only cost 30 quid.

avatar_REBOR_STUDIO @REBOR_STUDIO Fair enough on the lack of translucent teeth, but are you saying that's why the paint took a downgrade from the prototype? To make back cost lost in production? Just having a hard time understanding why the disparity, when your other products are very close to the prototype pics (such as the reissued Woodland Stegosaurus I acquired recently). Also why do some of the heads have seams? Is there a production reason for that (such as for painting the mouth details)? I would be more forgiving if I understood the why.

And yes, I know this has been in the works for a year, which is why I was bummed out with the final result in that review video. I have been very much looking forward to this because I've been wanting a dire wolf for my collection for so long, and have been following the development process since the first reveal.
