Dark Mode for the forum

I've finally developed a 'dark mode' for the forum! This is something I've wanted to implement for a long time and people have requested it over the years, but I needed to work out how. I had some time off work this week, and the recent funds I received from supporters helped spur me into action. So, anyone who enjoys the dark mode can thank them as well as me!

The default theme for guests is still light, but members can switch between the light and dark mode using the toggle button in the top menu.

Personally, I'm not keen on dark modes myself, so I won't be using it, but hopefully it benefits some members. I can still make further adjustments to the colours so please let me know if you have any feedback or suggestions to improve it. One minor issue we've identified is the colour of usernames and some titles is sometimes difficult to read. I'm a bit hamstrung by this because those are controlled by the core not the theme. So, if I adjust it in the core to make it look good on one theme, it may look worse on the other. But I'll see if I can find a happy medium if anything is completely illegible.

I might also look at creating a separate top banner for dark mode.

Thanks to all the supporters for helping make this happen!

Awesome! It's easier on my eyes so I do appreciate it.

Is there a way to make the spot where you write replies darker as well? Other than that, I love it!

Over9K

Ooooh.... sooo nice! Thank you!

Blade-of-the-Moon

I'm noticing anything in dark purple is blending in with the dark blue quite a bit. at least for me.

Post-based group usernames are purple on the DTF. I'll try lightening the shade so it works on dark and light mode. It might end up looking more pink than purple.

There is no obvious way for me to do this using the theme's colour changer so I'll look at the code and see if I can modify this directly.

Glad you like it!

I've adjusted the username colours. I also tweaked the red and blue for admins and mods. I think they work reasonably well on both modes.

I think I achieved this but let me know if you have any problems. I also implemented this for search bars and any other field where you can type.

Tattu

Thank you! I find this so much clearer and way easier on the eyes.

GojiraGuy1954

Awesome. Honestly I like the white forum banner with the dark theme, it's a nice contrast. I think a black-backed banner might obscure the figures and make it kind of muddy visually.
Shrek 4 is an underrated masterpiece

Samrukia

thanks to Dr Admin and Supporters, gonna use this theme now

I noticed that too.

In any case, this dark mode is welcome, it's easier on the eyes.

Oops, I overlooked the white background on the spoiler - I'll see if I can change that.

I corrected the white-on-white spoiler style. I also fixed another issue I encountered where the 'reply' text input box flashed white when hovering over it.

Thanks for building in a dark mode! I nearly always prefer it when I have the option.

I've started using the dark mode with the turn of the year, figuring that I'd soon switch back. But ... I like it a lot, easier on the eyes once one gets used to it. I think that I'm going to stick with it.

Libraraptor

This is my first time trying the dark mode. I've only seen this forum in light blue for 17 years.  Let's see if the dark mode can establish itself as a permanent state for me.

Pliosaurking

Ima also give the dark mode a try.
