Mattel - New for 2025

I think the Mattel mini figures cna be great options for having small species roughly to scale with large species.  I would love to have the following as Mattel mini figures:

1. Dakosaurus.  I know the existing  Mattel Dakosaurus is inaccurate, but I love Dakosaurus maximus (it's my second favourite marine reptile after Thalassomedon) and I like the look of the Mattel version.

2. Masiakasaurus.  The proportions of the existing Mattel version of this species are mostly good, which is unusual for a Mattel dinosaur.  I also prefer Mattel's to the strange-headed Safari version.

3. Poposaurus.  Even with the existing Mattel version's inaccurate feet.

4. Rhamphorhynchus.  I've been waiting so long for a satisfying Rhamphorhynchus figure...  I would of course prefer it to have feathers, but if it's the size of a mini, I think I would be able to simulate the presence of feathers by painting it.

Also species Mattel hasn't made yet: Eotyrannus, Psittacosaurus, Scelidosaurus, Nyctosaurus and Scaphognathus.  They all seem like things Mattel would like to make.

I also hope for the Mattel mini Postosuchus to be made available again, I'm searching for the green version at the moment and it would be great if it was more easily available.

avatar_Sim @Sim The green Postosuchus is from 2018, and was from the third wave, and only that wave (same as the original green Pachyrhinosaurus, and the green Diplodocus). I imagine it might be hard to come by now (there is one currently on us ebay, but like nearly $50). It eventually did get repainted in blue colors in 2020, and showed up across several waves, so it may be another option. In fact I did see several up for sale on us ebay for half the price of the current green one's listing.

That was supposedly part of a new line, Real FX but some say it's just a custom piece? So I'm not sure yet who to believe.

avatar_Blade-of-the-Moon @Blade-of-the-Moon I have a pic of the upcoming HC Stygimoloch in the op. It was from the Mattel booth at SDCC last year.

This is the pic that's been circulating around. No concrete info as to whether it's a custom or an official figure.

Yeah I saw it, I meant the Pachy. It's possible it's from the same line? I think I saw a package mockup.

avatar_Blade-of-the-Moon @Blade-of-the-Moon avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy I think it could actually be a test shot or fine cut of the 2023 figure, perhaps before things were finalized? Sculpt detail (shape of the oversized feet, size of the tail, head's joint for articulation, scales on the legs, the folds by the arm, wrinkles on the neck, etc) is nearly identical on much of it. Compare it to the pics from avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi review here:

https://dinotoyblog.com/pachycephalosaurus-the-lost-world-jurassic-park-hammond-collection-by-mattel/

The only thing that jumps out to me that seems different is the ridges along the back (and no wrinkles on the back where it meets the neck joint), and possibly the jaw's articulation. It doesn't seem as obvious as on the final figure.

Yes it does have some details here and there that are different. I'm not sure, I'm going to take a wait and see policy here I guess? Still waiting on the next Target orders to be announced to see what's planned.  It wouldn't hurt for Mattel to go back and improve some of the earlier HC figures too.

They should certainly revisit the raptors they've already made. And I hate to say it but, the T. rex too. Not sure I would get an improved T. rex though, not unless it was the Buck.

If this Real FX line is a thing, then I could see the Buck or a male Rex of some sort coming out through it. It seems to have better paint apps and probably a slightly higher price.

I wouldn't mind a new accurate female either. I've seen so many customs made it would be nice to have that as a production piece vs buying all the parts and having to build/paint it all.

Saw these pop up under the Danger Pack section on JPToys:

Torvoneustes
Iani smithi
Dentaneosuchus
Rugops primus

Just names for now. Iani and Dentaneosuchus were both just described in 2023, so they are yet again quick to ball here with more recently described animals (after Stegouros, and Jakapil, maybe Moros too, since it was leaked prior to Dominion getting delayed). For anyone unfamiliar with these first three (Rugops has been done before, and is an abelisaur), Torvoneustes is our second metriorhynchid, after 2023's Dakosaurus, Iani smithi is a rhabdodontomorph ornithopod dinosaur, and Dentaneosuchus is a sebecid crocodylomorph (and the second Cenozoic animal, and pseudosuchian at that. Edit: Or third. Forgot about Purrusaurus earlier).

Sim

I'm excited to see the Torvoneustes!  I hope it and the Mattel Dakosaurus get made as mini figures eventually, even if they won't be 1:35 scale... I like metriorhynchoids a lot.  Has anyone asked Mattel to make certain species as figures, in any of their lines (e.g. mini, main line)?  There's some species I'd like to have as mini figures from Mattel and I wonder whether it would be worth asking Mattel to consider them?  I also am not sure what way is best to contact them?

Not even the paleontologists who described them know those names. ::) (except Rugops obviously)

Mattel obsession with making extremely obscure critters is so frustrating, although good for the wallet.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I've never even heard of half of these, so my criteria for picking them up is : "Do they look good ?"
