SidB's Repaints - Revisiting the Past

I'd like to share two small, but I believe important modifications made to a couple of my figures, one fairly recent, the other several years old. First, HLG's 2024 Maiasaura. You'll remember that it was well received, EXCEPT for the lack of the well known and distinctive eye brow ridge connecting the two hornlets. That was a surprising omission. So, I had the ridge installed by Chris between these hornlets, as you can see (it's a small detail, quite tricky):

Then, we revisited the old Papo Apatasaurus. A long-standing complaint has been the external nares atop the skull. Chris moved them well down the head (look carefully, they are a bit hard to see in my photo) to an appropriate spot. I have the HLG Apatosaurus and it's now my number one, but I still like this figure and wanted to gave it a bit of a new lease on life:

The Maiasaura looks much better with the center of its forehead restored to it!

The Maiasaura adjustment makes a big difference, small though it is. Chris must have very steady hands!

I prefer to be proactive in attending to errors and deficiencies, rather than bemoaning imperfections  and continuing to wait for a more 'perfect' figure (though that's unavoidable sometimes). Plus, Chris doesn't charge me too much, so I avail myself of the opportunity.

Yes, avatar_ceratopsian @ceratopsian , he's very patient and since he has a huge and ever growing Warhammer collection, it's evidence that he is very good with miniscule details and is attentive to them. Many Warhammer players are rather hasty in their application of paint to their figures, being anxious to be able to field a large army quickly. Not Chris, he's an artist and a craftsman and is really quality focused.

I think that is an extremely sensible attitude to take, S @SidB. Certainly one that is more likely to lead to pleasurable enjoyment on your part!  You're lucky to have someone so good and reliable within reach.

Andrea the rex was a finely detailed rex release from PNSO, superior to the Wilson series (1-3), but by that point I was no longer okay with the exposed teeth on the figure. Since the Wilsons belong to an older, less developed expression of Tyrannosaurus rex by PNSO, I haven't bothered to take them in hand for an upgrade. But Andrea is another story.

Andrea in her original dental aspect (more than a bit goofy, IMO):

So I sent her off to Bravo Models in Mexico. Today she returned, a new girl, thanks to Aaron. Here we see her with her travel gear still in place for protection:

Voila, unwrapped:

Andrea rejoins the pack, a happy ending and no more teasing from her buddy, the lipped Cameron:

Thank you, avatar_Protopatch @CharlieNovember . 'Bravo' is appropriate, since the work was done by Bravo Models in Mexico!

I was quite pleased with the new Recur rex, pictures of which I posted in the New Aquisitions thread. After all , for 20 dollars , the sculpt was a real success - with one obvious exception: the too large feet. Quite understandable really, it's either a base, a three-point stance or enlarged feet, typically. So, I've made a leafy  base to conceal those feet.

I just received two small commissions back from my friend, Chris, who painted these resin pieces from Paleo Sculpture. Both listed as 1/35 scale. They join my slowly growing collection of Cenozoics.

The short-faced bear taking a bit of inspiration from the Andean bear, looks good!

Thanks! It made some sense, as the Andean Short-faced bear is a relatively close relative of this extinct one. Plus, it looks cool.

The arrival of TNG's Megatherium was met with mixed feelings on my part. A wonderfully detailed 1/35 figure, but five fingers on each of the two  forelimbs! Surprising error on their part, spoiling an otherwise fine figure:

But, no fear - I sent it off to my friend Chris to perform an operation. Megatherium should have no thumb (and the little finger is vestigial, with no claw, a feature that TNG got right). Here the result of his work:

Look Ma, no thumbs:

I'm delighted with the results and can now comfortably add this fine sculpt to my Cenozoic collection, keeping its Wild Safari (1/40) predecessor company.
I sure hope that TNG ultimately decides to issue its projected (but now stalled) Paraceratherium to join their current offering. In the meantime I'm getting CollectA's newer, "mangey" Para repainted - will share that with you folks when it's ready.
