Thanks.  Congrats on yours.  Did you like the paint job?

Quote from: laticauda on March 20, 2025, 01:44:33 AMHi guys. I know I haven't really been around much over the past five years, due to work, time, and money.  I miss you guys, and I do miss doing reviews.  I still read the DTB and Gwangi, Suspsy as always are amazing.  So are all the reviewers.  Of course, all my students get to know the name of Dr. Adam Smith when I talk about anatomy of prehistoric creatures during class.  Ok I realize I'm rambling but there are days where you feel like a five-year-old kid.  Today ended up being one of those days.

After a long day of work and running my kids around to different activities, I arrived home.   My wife and kids had a gift for me.  It was wrapped in a big box; I thought it was clothes.  Nope.  When ripped open the wrapping paper I see the head of a sauropod.  They got me the Jurassic World Diplodocus.  Totally not expecting it.  I was shocked and its size is awesome.  Though I'm not sure where I have an open spot to display it, it's going to pair nicely with my Jurassic World legacy brachiosaurus (Her name is Brooke).

In fact, I need a name for this new diplodocus.  If you have any ideas, please share.

Being a responsible adult and a positive role model for my kids are important but that doesn't mean you can't have fun whimsical moments. This was one of them.  I am just excited and thank you for letting me share this moment with you.

Good to see you again! Miss having you around and miss your reviews. Congrats on the Diplodocus. I still need to get it but I'm trying to wait for a decent sale on it. I'm starting to grow impatient though.

I saw it go on sale at target around $48.00 USD last year but I couldn't justify buying it.  Since then, the prices have gone up.  My wife didn't tell me the price but what she told me was that she saw it in person at Target and it was more than 10 USD cheaper than what its selling for on Target online.

I've seen them go on sale for about that price too but I've been holding out for at least 50% off. Next time it's on sale I might just have to bite the bullet, no matter the price. These giant sauropods are a curse. I kind of wish Mattel would stop making them but there's another one slated for this year so...

Oh my! That's the deal I've been waiting for! Thanks for the heads up.

Faelrin

Man, that's even cheaper then the sale I got mine for. If I had the space I'd get a second for it.

In a little box today from Paleo Sculptures (on eBay) is this little resin figure, a 1/35 scale Uintatherium for my collection of 1/35 ish scale extinct Cenozoic mammals and birds. It will go into the queue awaiting its turn to be painted.

Another small package arrived in the mail today, the HLG Huangosaurus, sold as a 'one-of' apart from a large sauropod

I was quite curious to see how this little 1/35 figure would stack up against the PNSO Huangosaurus of several years ago -

The PNSO still looks very good, though the much newer HLG has a superior level of detail and paintwork. Both have 16 pairs of  dorsal spikes.

I got the Huayangosaurus yesterday (same color as yours S @SidB) and have already written a blog review of it that'll go up some time this week. Those plates are awfully brittle! One came chipped and I accidently chipped another just by snagging a finger nail on it. Only tiny pieces though, barely noticeable, but I won't be trying to reposition the warped ones!

Looking forward to your review, avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi . As for the somewhat warped plates/spikes on mine, I'm leaving them alone too. Not a big thing in the scheme of things.

No, not a big deal at all. But it does give us an example of some of the challenges HLG may have with making small figures. And maybe why they seem hesitant to do so.

I can second that fragility. Mine arrived (in the Brachiosaurus box) with the very tip of one plate missing. Tiny piece and barely noticeable.

That's perceptive, and very relevant to the whole discussion on whether or not they would ever attempt 1/35 scale figures of the smaller dinosaurs that have been put forward by various people as candidates for fabrication. It seems that the technology really isn't sufficiently mature enough yet. If they move forward in this direction sooner rather than later, it may be that they'd have to introduce these figures along the lines of their recent 1/20 Stegosaurus release.

SidB

I was never too excited about PNSO's Wuerhosaurus. I had the HLG one and figured that to be enough. Well, the last three months have been quite slow release-wise from these two companies, so I figured that it was time to play catch-up with figures that I either hadn't got around to acquiring or was somewhat lukewarm about. Which brings me back to the PNSO Wuerhosaurus -

Much nicer than I had expected. The bluish accents really make the paint job pop.

Then, one-on-one with the HLG, it really is a rather distinct sculpt. For one thing, a much more robust animal, and another, definitely a lower slung one. I like it.

I really enjoy the top down view of the PNSO Wuerhosaurus. So delightfully chunky! ^-^ Need to pick him up on my next PNSO haul.

You could rationalise the double-up as W. ordosensis and W.homheni respectively. As avatar_Sim @Sim pointed out, the differences in proportions is consistent with what's known about the two species.

Now that's a neat idea. Good for avatar_Sim @Sim in suggesting the potential justification for using both figures.
