I decided to go with the names of English monarchs for this poll. Henry would be my personal fave, what with Henry V, Henry VIII, and of course, Hank from Prehistoric Planet.

avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum, for some reason I can't get this poll to allow for more than 1 vote. Help?

Shaq
Andre (like Andre the giant,  also matches Andrea)
El Gordito
Eduardo ( avatar_Concavenator @Concavenator made a very elegant and sophisticated point on that name)
Rick or Richard (cognate with Rex via Anglo-Saxon)
Tyrone (sounds like tyranno)
Dave
Bob
John
Jack
Aurelian
Cambyses
Aristotles
Plato (literally means wide, and Tyrannosaurus was very sophisticated compared to other megatheropods)
Theodore (Teddy Roosevelt had serious Tyrannosaurus energy)
Mustafa
Mehmed
Temujin(though I reckon its better for a tarbosaurus)
Washington
Dakota
Montana
Texas
REX-as

Raj
Rajinder
Rajpreet
Kevin
Raj-kumar
Ranjit

Reggie
Reginald

Or how about just

Rex...some people have that as a real name

I wanted to allow for two votes, so as to pick a male and a female name, but despite my attempts to edit the options, it always went back to a single vote.

Henry works really nicely due to Henry Fairfield Osborn (which for as terrible as a person he was, he did discribe Tyrannosaurus)
George is nice but it makes me think of Gorgeous George who is a Daspletosaurus.

Βασίλισσα/Vasílissa, which means queen in Greek

Up until fairly recently, most of the PNSO figures the names are in the primary language of or follow the naming conventions of the fossil's country of origin. eg, Paul, Connor, Isaac for American dinosaurs and Xinchuan, Xiaoquin, and Dayong for Chinese dinosaurs.

suspsy

Yeah, as cool as Greek and Indian names are, T. rex is 100% North American.

Ah yes, of course! I didn't really take that into account since the opening post mentioned British monarchs as inspiration, and Tyrannosaurus Rex is a North American species. I actually had me inspired to go for a Greek name because of the etymology of the name Tyrannosaurus (τύραννος/tyrant, σαῦρος/lizard), and since Rex is latin for King. And I would love to see a female Tyrannosaurus represented, thus I went with Vasílissa.

edit: perhaps an indigenous American name in that case? I feel that would do the roots of Tyrannosaurus Rex even better justice than an Anglo-Saxon name.

yeah but I dont think a name like "Wilson " "Andrea" or "cameron" sounds very indigenous/aboriginal north American.
Besides the animal has a Greek name. Andrea itself is Greek, and Wilson is Germanic.
Furthermore I don't think PNSO is always so consistent on names matching fossil areas. I dont think "Jacques" the Deinocheirus is French. By this logic we should expect Essien the spinosaurus (which appears to be west African and not egyptian, but correct me otherwise) to be Mohammad the Spinosaurus or Ahmad the Spinosaurus (or if you wanna go really far back, Rameses 🤣 but obviously someone else did that trope already)

Pachyrhinosaurus

Barnum would be a good name for a Tyrannosaurus rex, after Barnum Brown. You could even call it Barney for short.

Wilson, Andrea, and Cameron are absolutely names that one commonly comes across among residents of North America.

Yes, but they're not American. If we follow that logic (which is fine, I am rather indifferent on the name to be honest) we could also name this T. rex Juan, Gianna, Amir, Carlos, Mateo, Athena, Aurora, etc. Names that find their origins all over the world, but also show up in the US frequently. So I guess the idea here is if a name (relative regularly) shows up in North America? The only proper American names are indigenous American names, so perhaps that would be most fitting in this case.

I was going to comment the same thing.

Trenchcoated Rebbachisaur

I mean. The best name for the upcoming rex is clearly Elipsabeth, not sure why we'd need a thread for this

SRF

We all know its name is going to be Wilson again, right?
But today, I'm just being father
