Unreleased/lost toys

Hi everyone! I've started this topic to discuss figures of prehistoric animals that are unreleased, figures that only exist in our memory and are probably no copy's left, or figures that are so rare they were thought to be myths, much like the battat miniature tyrannosaurus, or the toyway ornithoceirus.

I recently watched a video on YouTube about a dinosaur videogame called escape triassic hall, and I got introduced to "lost media". It made me wonder, are any figures also lost like the video game with a chance that only a few exist in the world now, soon to be gone and only remembered?

I'll go first. The collecta arsinoitherium has a rough and almost scaly texture on its skin, whereas the arsinoitherium from the early promo images, has a smooth and wrinkly skin. Are there any collecta arsinoitherium with smooth skin released? Let me know if you happen to have one

One of the biggest losses about 17 years ago was the Wild Republic figures that were developed for the National Geographic "Sea Monsters" movie.

Several sets were made that included most of the featured animals including:

Dolichorhynchops
Styxosaurus
Tylosaurus
Cretoxyrhina
Enchodus
Bananogmius

Maybe others, but it's been a while. Unfortunately low initial orders at trade shows lead to the line being cancelled (I tried to get the demo models for the museum I worked at but they were tossed...)

The only materials released were some merch like magnets and wood blocks, and a few plush like Styxosaurus and Dolichorhynchops

Do any images of these Wild Republic 'Sea Monsters' sets exist?

There would have been some on Dino Toy Forum 1, but not sure if they're still there.

Not sure if it's even archived anymore. avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum would know that

Definitely interested in seeing those fish. Do you recall if they were cartoonish or realistic in style?

They were realistic, styled like in the movie.
Which is why it was so disappointing that they were cancelled.

I was able to find the thread on DTFv1 but the photos are lost, like tears in rain. Someone might have photos by I don't

Pachyrhinosaurus

Not that they've been forgotten, but there's the unreleased Battat Terra dinosaurs: Gigantoraptor, Gastonia, Pentaceratops, Nasutoceratops, and Europasaurus, that all made their way to Battat but still haven't seen the light of day as of yet. And the Plateosaurus, Majungasaurus, and Yutyrannus that were never finished before Dan LoRusso sadly passed.

There have also been rumors that Carnegie's 2016 entry would have been Apatosaurus.

Damn. A damn shame we never got to see those released. I guess the Sea Monsters set is properly lost media now that the images are gone too.

Thanks for posting the thread avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum

Turns out I had already seen them all the way back in 2016! Had these been released, the Squalicorax & Caproberyx would've been unique to this day. And the Styxosaurus would've been the only attempt at a scientific reconstruction of the genus on the market.

Other candidates for this thread:

- All of Vitae's unrealised figures.

- Geoworld Paleozoics

- Geoworld Sea Monsters

Quite a number of Mattel figures that never surfaced (or in very small possibly production sample quantities). The 2018 Legacy spitting Dilophosaurus, and jumping JPIII male raptor, the many Destruct-A-Saur sets (Dimetrodon, Stygimoloch Lab, etc), the 2019 Dino Rivals Therizinosaurus, 2019 Dino Rivals Franklin (and red Triceratops mini, though initial images showed him with the Microceratus), I think a Lythronax and Scorpios Rex mini which Andy's Dinosaur Reviews has shown off, and probably that Chaos Theory Suchomimus and Ben set that never released last year. Some others too like the Dino Rivals yellow Triceratops that was seen at SDCC in 2019 I think (and was in the app, along with many other repaints that never surfaced). I know the original 2018 Matchbox Mosasaurus Sea sub set never released either, but did in Dino Rivals packaging, and eventually re-released with Dominion. There's also a number of Dominion Matchbox sets that I have no idea if they actually released or not (though I know some also did). I added them to the DTC site just in case, with images for many (but not all).

There's also the plethora of canceled Kenner and Hasbro Jurassic Park toys, which JPToys has more info on.

I'm glad there's something about them still around.
And I forgot about the plush Cretoxyrhina.
I think we still have all three of the plush in the house somewhere...

Pliosaurking

It's too bad that there is many figures in this boat, namely Vitaes and Battats. I remember just when I was getting into this hobby seriously, being so excited to see the Vitaes and they never made it  :'(. I remember seeing Sea Monsters in Theatres, I definitely would have picked those figures up. I never even knew they existed till now.

I have the plush Dolichorhynchops.

PrimevalRaptor

I have the Dolichorhynchops as well!
I remember seeing the images of the Sea Monsters figures back in the day and being sad cause I was thinking "man they'll never release over here..." (turns out they never got released in general  :*D)
At least nowadays the selection of prehistoric marine reptiles is way better than back in the day, I remember when one of my most prized figures was the Dino Valley Liopleurodon

Nehalennia

Did the Wild Past Majungasaurus ever see the light of day? I remember it being so close to release, but I've never seen it actually available.

Halichoeres

The Sea Monsters figures are particularly painful because those species are unlikely to be revisited by other companies. Some of Vitae's lost releases are similar, particularly the marine reptiles: Yuzhoupliosaurus, Kaikaifilu, Plioplatecarpus, and Brachypterygius. They had some dinosaurs in the works, too, but somebody else will get around to those someday.

Kaikaifilu is especially sad since it got a recent boost in popularity due to Prehistoric Planet and Plioplatecarpus is sad for me personally because it's local.
