Dino's vid there seems to confirm a few things that I had been feeling...

The fact that this figure was originally a much larger scale, in a different material, has compromised the result once they shrink it down and cast it in a softer/warmer material. Detail has been lost. It's like this is the VHS version of the BluRay, it's that level of resolution loss.

Looking at the wounds, the way Showanna uses gloss and matte finishes in the same areas, and the teeth, the paint app looks actually very good, but the quality of the application is almost totally canceled out by the drab, bland, beige presentation of the figure as a whole. Dino's video shows us that there are some really nice attempts at nuance and detail in the paint app, the facial spots for example, that ultimately bear no fruit at all, because the overall presentation is beige.

IMO, this is again the result of shrinking down a larger, more detailed resin figure. It appears to me that Showanna just literally gave the painters the handbook they used to paint the resin statue, and said "Just do that."

I am still excited for this figure. I have wanted a Vlad Konstantov T.rex for several years now, and since resin statues are a no-go for me, this new PVC Showanna line was the first real chance to make it happen.

I feel like Showanna, which is currently refunding the Scotty pre-orders of dissatisfied customers, is already trying to make things right and I am sure there will be improvements to their offerings in this line. I have high hopes for whatever comes next.

Turkeysaurus

It was a fair review. I'm still excited for upcoming Stan (?) even though that also seems to have no scales. (Although i'm not sure if we would able to see those tiny scales on if there was a living 1:35 T.rex)

From Dinosdragons review... it's fine. I'll still continue with my purchase of it, it'll do for now until PNSO's lipped Tyrannosaurus comes along.

I prefer it to the Eofauna one, not that it's bad, and I do like it, it just has an uncanny mammalian look and the paint job isn't my favourite.

Then there's the new ED Evolution rex - what a year!

I reckon a majority of the disappointment from prospective customers is due to Showana using a resin prototype(?) for their promo pics, which set impossibly high expectations. By comparison, EDE's rex which arguably has even softer details is receiving much praise.

The final figure judging from DinosDragon's review looks decent. Certainly not the best in terms of both quality & value for money, especially considering how saturated the rex market is, but a decent first attempt nonetheless. Hope these teething problems will be sorted by the time Showana's 'Stan' is released.

Scotty arrived!! No time for pics at the moment, but I can give a quick-&-dirty flash review....

PROS:

Sculpt: The sculpt is gorgeous! The detail is tight, crisp and deeper than I had expected. For some reason, in-hand photos and review videos aren't capturing the sharpness of the detail. Perhaps the paint is causing this, but in person the sculpt is very very nice, PNSO-quality, even if the presentation is less scaled and more wrinkle/muscles.

Paint: The paint app is also beautiful! The layering of the paint brings the figure a kind of "shimmering" quality, as your perspective changes, the colors subtly shift as the perspective moves. This gives a very life-like appearance. The wounds are done very precisely, and look great. The way Showanna uses matte and gloss finishes for effect is state of the art for the industry, IMO.

Teeth: My teeth are P E R F E C T, and painted very nicely. Way WAY better than what we saw in Dino's video.

CONS:

Stability: The figure barely stands on its own, and requires the base for any confidence that it was stay standing.

Paint: The paint application inside the mouth is a bit odd, IMO. As soon as I saw mine, I came here to review photos and videos, making sure my mouth paint was correct, and it is. They have chosen a multicolored scheme inside the mouth, Reds and Pinks moving into a Grey/White. In person the move from Pink to Grey/White is a little bit abrupt. After checking other examples, it seems this is correct. The effect doesn't really work for me, but I get where they were going.

Box: My box was never sealed. There's a flap, with an adhesive trip across the bottom, and you're supposed to use a "rip strip" to open that flap. On my box the adhesive strip was never used, it still has the backing on it, and my box flopped open the moment I pulled it from the Showanna-branded shipper. Now, I'm sure that mine was just not sealed at the factory, plopped in a shipper and shipped. But, it means that anyone that gets an unsealed box can open their figure, display it, and then pop it back in the box, pull the adhesive strip backing, and suddenly they have a "MINT IN SEALED BOX" for sale on eBay.

Right now, I'm giving Scotty a 7 out of 10, points up for sculpt, paint and teeth, points down for stability, and the base which is very meh. I will try and get some images this evening.

"Beam me aboard, Scotty". I'm looking forward to getting mine soon from Lana, and getting a sense of what that boils down to, also, avatar_Over9K @Over9K . Thanks for your comments, they're a good prevision of what I might expect and make me really anticipate its arrival.

I will be very interested to hear what you think, especially about the detail and the paint. Like most folks here, I do suffer from at least a mild case of BTF (Beige Theropod Fatiuge), but I really think this one is very very nice.

Right now, I think what Showanna needs to work on is consistency in quality control. It seems that there are good Scottys and bad Scottys, and perhaps I have been fortunate to receive a really good Scotty.

Hopefully he'll get here this week.

Would love to see Showanna eventually releasing non-Tyrannosaurus PVC figures...  :P

(Nor Triceratops, since we're at it).

Before I say much of anything, avatar_Over9K @Over9K , I'll share these images with you and whoever is curious:

I find that the base is better than I thought it might be, so I'm pleased with it, essentially, and not just to keep the figure from going for a little tumble, but because I do like bases in general. Color-wise, not being burned out yet with tans and browns,I'm basically good with the paint apps, so that isn't a sticking point for me. Now, of course the figure can't possibly supercede the PNSO Cameron in the matter of skin scalation, nor does it have the lips and exoparia (I believe) of the Eofauna, but IMO it stands up quite well as a first-of from this fledgling company, well worth acquiring and a keeper for my pack of Tyrannosaurs. It was worth the wait. If, as we've heard, lipless rexes are vastly more popular in the big Chinese market than their lipped coumterpart, Showanna has made a savvy move in taking this approach to establish themselves financially at this time, with this classic figure.
