It's a breath of fresh air after so many ceratopsians. Also, what was the last non-dinosaur that PNSO made? I feel like it has been at least a couple of years. In any case, this one is a must have for me.

The sculpt is superb, as someone has said, there is movement in it. It looks alive.

avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi Last one was made in 2021. I think it was either the Tylosaurus or Livyatan. There were quite a number of them that year with 3 fish, a whale, a pliosaur, ichthyosaur, and mosasaur. After that, nothing but dinosaurs, and among them a bulk of megatheropods.

I had a feeling you would be the one to know.  ::D

That's a bit longer than my suggested "couple of years". This was loooong overdue!

Ooooh, I like it! I especially like the white markings on the fins, and the yellow streak is a lovely touch! I remember being super into ichthyosaurs as a kid, so I'd love adding a figurine to my collection. Not sure yet if I'll really get this one, though ... with the limited space I have at the moment, I'm not sure if I can afford branching out my collection too much, especially considering that I'm already collecting multiple things  :P (And I just re-homed stuff to make more space for new figurines that are gonna arrive in the coming months...) And I do have a lovely ichthyosaur plush already to represent the group. Guess I'll wait for in-hand photos/footage and make my final decision. It is very, very tempting, I must say ...

Youran the Guizhouichthyosaurus

Yes! finally another non-dinosaur! It looks really good, like a mix of common dolphin and humpback whale.

I'm glad to see this figure, I notice it has lips too in contrast to PNSO's Himalayasaurus!  I would like a long-necked plesiosauroid from PNSO though, I don't understand why they haven't made one yet.

Will it work as temnodontosaurus? Excuse the wishful thinking

As a juvenile or a small individual maybe.
Temnodontosaurus measured between 9 and 15 meters long, so at 1/35 scale should be something between 25.7cm and 42.8cm long.

I wonder what this will set me back... HMM

Most likely not I'm afraid. Temnodontosaurus has a really long tail and face and Guizhouichthyosaurus is short in both regards. Temnodontosaurus would also have a much more vertically tilted tail fluke, shorter flippers and proportionally larger eyes

Quite interesting to see how concerns were mounting about a year with nothing but ceratopsians being released and then a marine reptile comes out.

PNSO never fails to surprise us. Maybe next release will be a weirdo like Cotylorhynchus.

Flaffy

Stunning icthyosaur. Instantly goes into the "to buy" list! Hope this means we'll get a wave of marine reptiles.

Joel1905

Well this is a most unexpected one! But very welcome!

There are still several dinosaurs that I desperately want from PNSO, but at the same time I've wanted them to make more marine reptiles too!

Paleofiguras says we'll be getting a Mosasaurus 2.0 soon! I'd also love to see PNSO try their hand at the likes of Liopleurodon & Elasmosaurus!

Just as long as they don't delay the fully lipped Tyrannosaurus rex too much 😜

I am not sure to understand their choice (from a scientific point of view) of making fluorescent yellow lateral streaks.
It certainly brings an artistic touch to the whole figure, especially with the sun rays in the main promotional picture however, I assume that this animal, like some current marine predators, featured a more discreet skin color pattern in order to remain imperceptible by its preys^^

suspsy

There are dolphins with yellow streaks along their sides and they do perfectly well at catching prey.

As do other marine predators including blue marlins, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, etc.

A yellow stripe is actually fairly well represented in pelagic marine predators.

Makes sense, I was too focused on sharks and killer whales, and forgot that tuna or dolphins were predators too thx :*D !
So, it's rather surprising that no other companies had the idea of such a color scheme for their Ichtyosaurs before, except if PNSO somehow got their inspiration from the Carnegie's Ichtyosaur ?^^
But the yellow used on the latter seems more diffuse, less flashy, with cream tones.

Anyway, I find that this Guizhouichthyosaurus could be a great inspiration for a surf brand logo !
