Their regular figures'color schemes have gotten pretty repetitive for the most part. On the other hand, those Designer variants have more diverse color schemes, and they're all absolute stunners.

Considering this price tag I prefer to get a custom repaint by some artist like Dinosaur Models Artwork actually. Then I get a truly unique figure and support a local artist. Plus I can get some custom modifications to the sculpt if needed.

A few weeks ago I received 3 figures. I made up my mind when I saw the Euhelopus (I didn't know much about the species) but I thought that the figure looked FANTASTIC. I loved it at first sight. A small figure but absolutely gorgeous: very good sculpture and lots of colours. It reminded me of a mini version of the purple limited edition HLG Argentinosaurus both in colours and details.
And believe me, if you are hesitant about that figure, go on without doubt, you will love it.

The saurolophus was on sale so I added it (it was not on my list of must-buy) but as it was a classic dinosaur from my chilhood ... And yes, it is a very good figure, nothing bad to say about it. I love the high contrast colours, they remind me a bit of the PNSO Mapusaurus but definitely different.

The Tyrannosaurus ... I didn't need it but ... it was also on sale (about 8€ less). I have lots of Tyrannosaurus (but not a single PNSO) and my favourite is (and continues being) the Rebor Kiss. And ONLY because HLG made this version lipped and a bit small for my taste, same about the Edmontosaurus. There are many famous T-rex skeletons about 12-13m and the HLG represents an 11,5m one.
But I couldn't pass ... the colour, the pose is FABULOUS. What a presence, what a show-off dude. I has made the Safari feathered rex to go to leave the cabinet (only one figure per species) and go to my daughters' collection but of course a must-keep-forever figure, it's one of my favourites.
Of course I am waiting for the "perfect" tyrannosaurus to appear some day, maybe a lipped PNSO, or a new HLG ... large, lipped, chunky but with gracile legs (something that Kiss doesn't have).

And today (and incredibly fast!) I have received the Shantungosaurus.
The largest non-sauropod ... of course I had to get it!! I chose the green version because the other reminded me a bit of the purple Apatosaurus that I already have. I just thought that a dull dark green suited perfectly this large mastodont and it really does.
The colour is a grey-green but with more grey than green.
The lower jaw looked a bit "strange" to me as it is not a species I know a lot about, but after a little research and seeing the fossils and the skeletals, oh yes, it is a perfect reconstruction: the large jaw, the large head, the short neck ... yes, it is just like that.
It is perfectly understandable that the sculptor could have gone with the "easy" closed mouth version but I HIGHLY APPRECIATE Haolonggood for venturing with a much much more difficult open mouth. It not only makes the figure different from other figures but also gives us a nice look of the inside with the teeth batteries, the reconstruction of the jaw muscle and tissue and a better view of the distinctive wide lower jaw.

Sure most of you know the impressive PNSO edmontosaurus that dwarfs all the other similar figures ... but YEAH, the large brother has come. Just look at the size of this thing (it didn't look so large in the packaging).

I really think it would only look small with the Argentinosaurus. It dwarfs any other figure!

Very nice pics and infos avatar_Duna @Duna !

The Tyrannosaurus is a beauty! Not quite sure if I should get it because the mouth-gap-problem.

The Euhelopus (grey) is on m list...the Shantungasaurus is a real whopper! Hard decision for me to buy it or not because I hope for an HLG Iguanodon (with Walter Cronkite-dinosaurs-documentary-colors) and 1n 1:1 Archeopteryx

I just got the Shantungosauus too and I'm super impressed by it. I prepared myself for disappointed when it was first revealed because of the plain colours and the ugly face but in person neither of those things bother me at all.

This thing is big, and the plain colours help convey that. The musculature is also a lot more full and bulbous than usual which also helps makes the figure look huge. A lot of the details of this figure convey "massive" better than most sauropod models out there.
The face has also grown on me and looks way better in person. The "shrink-wrapping" that put me off initially now reminds me of the face of an elephant. You can see a lot of the underlying skull anatomy around an elephant's eyes, cranium and cheeks because of how large they are. The skin and flesh sags and goes taut because of the sheer mass of the animal's face, and that's what this model reminds me of.

All in all, this thing is amazing. I'm genuinely surprised how much I've turned around on it having it in person.

It's a lesson that I've learned well too, not yet with this figure (which I don't own), but from some other figures commented upon negatively in the PNSO, HLG and Safari threads. Some carefully studied criticisms stick, and rightly so, but others prove to be mere nitpicking, pedantry and sheer unfairness. We surely learn, as time goes on, to gradually distinguish between the two. I think that it's a survival skill necessary to retain one's delight in the collecting hobby.

Paleo Flo

You're right.

I have still not decided which figure I will order. Rex would be only because of it's beauty.
I have not a figure of the other discused dinosaurs. So they are more interesting. For the Shantungo speaks a lot.
I didn't know until a few weeks that it was the biggest dinosaur which was a not a Spinosaurus or a saurpod. That is a point

Really great to hear that you are so positive about the figure. After some of the comments that I could read in this thread I was slowly preparing myself for the fact that this would be yet another figure in need of customization and repaint. I am always happy if this is not needed as it invariably involves some additional costs. I mean I am happy to go for the customization and / or repaint because Haolonggood figures are all so good now that most can be turned from very good to outstanding with little extra work. And after all this keeps small local artists in business.

Yep, I forgot to mention it, but because of the gap and the exposed teeth I decided to show it with the mouth open (like the lipless PNSO figures I have) and it looks much better. But the colour and pose are definitely pros of this figure.

But I highly recommend the Shantungosaurus and the Euhelopus. They are figures to be loved!

Now that is more than a recommendation! :))

I will decide soon

Shantungosaurus was far more massive than Spinosaurus!

Monkeysaurus

Shantungosaurus arrived! His size is impressive. As is true with all Haolonggood it's better in person. I'm currently placing him among some other hadrosaurs. I'm just concerned he might bully the other dinosaurs with his increased size 🤨 he's been getting along with Edward the Iguanadon but I don't think he cares for the argentinosaurus. I suspect jealousy may be the culprit. As long as they don't discuss politics again I think we'll be fine.

Time to put the modeling glue away.....

Just because I have a short attention span doesn't mean

Turkeysaurus

Haolonggood Shantungosaurus is now let's see Boundless World Shantungosaurus.

Gwangi

Do you appreciate the tasteful thickness of it avatar_Turkeysaurus @Turkeysaurus?

danmalcolm

Would anybody who has both the new Shantungosaurus and PNSO's Mandschurosaurus be willing to post a comparison shot? Thanks
