Yaaay!

I've been longing for a long necked marine reptile like Plesiosaurus or a close relative. This will do nicely! I just hope it'll be in 1:35 scale.

PNSO has been making obscure species this year and I hope they continue this!  Hopefully they avoid making Elasmosaurus in favour of a plesiosauroid known from better remains.

What a nice surprise, PNSO is really branching out into interesting groups.

Turkeysaurus

If  Dinocephalosaurus is max 6 metres then model is 1:25.

BlueKrono

It first struck me as looking like a Keichousaurus. Turns out they actually lived together but were only very distantly related. That's convergent evolution for ya!

Kaiyodo has made a few Plesiosaurus figures, which are in 1:35 scale and are very good.  They come with a base which can hold them up but if you prefer to not have a base you can do what I did and superglue the base's peg into the stomach of the Plesiosaurus and then clip the base off.  The result will be an excellent Plesiosaurus figure without a hole in its stomach!  You might want to paint where the peg is in the body of the Plesiosaurus too which would be minor work.  I didn't have to do that as the exposed part of the peg of the Plesiosaurus version I have is the same colour as the underside of the figure.

I want a proper Styxosaurus or perhaps a Doliychorynchops. Though TBH, another Tanystropheus would also be good...

At least this figure shows that pnso has the ability to do long neck plesiosauroids. I was wondering if their were any production concerns with how slender they were. But if they can do this I can't wait to see what they (hopefully) eventually do with that group of animals.

Not to be overly nitpicky or negative, but do the proportions seem off to anyone else? The neck seems rather short and the skull is very large.

Regardless, it's nice to see Dinocephalosaurus getting a figure, even if it has a few issues with the proportions.

Based on the comparisons I am looking at nothing seems to really stick out to me. I think the head maybe looking large because they mouth is wide open and has quite a bit of soft tissue around the throat. I think with the mouth shut it would be extremely slender.

Thanks for the info. I tried looking them up and found some elasmosaurus models but I couldn't find anything specifically 1/35. If this new PNSO figure is 1/25 maybe it could stand in for something larger?

They can be seen here, the black one comes in a pale colouration too: https://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=3390.msg176706#msg176706

I wouldn't be surprised if it's simply due to the sheer length of the figure messing with the promo pics. I reckon it'll look more proportionate in hand.

I've long lamented that the only figure of Dinocephalosaurus being the cartoonish Animal Heavenly Body Studio one. Very glad we finally have a more serious take on the genus courtesy of PNSO!

Fantastic news. To me this year is like PNSO coming back from the dead.

I have the Animal Planet version, and it will feel good to replace it with this!

I think this is the most excited for a pnso figure I've been in a LONG time!

Man I'm SO excited for this. I love seeing more Triassic freaks hahaha. I noticed again that this Dinocephalosaurus has a life size version at the Guizhou museum. Many of PNSO's marine models seem to be based off the models at that museum.

Here's a post with photos of a bunch of them: https://x.com/WryCritic/status/1932291200213828011

I looked into it and made a list of all the prehistoric species I could find that have models at the Guizhou museum, there's probably a lot more than just these it's just hard to find more info about this museum. Maybe we can expect some more of these species in the future.

Atopodentatus unicus (already in the prehistoric animal and mini lines)

Nothosaurus youngi (would love a figure of this one)

Guizhouichthyosaurus tangae (already in the prehistoric animal line)

Dinocephalosaurus orientalis (already in the prehistoric animal line)

Keichousaurus hui (already in the mini line)

Qianichthyosaurus zhoui

Guanlingsaurus liangae

Mixosaurus panxianensis

Xinminosaurus catactes

Sinocyamodus xinpuensis (we might have a good shot at this one since PNSO posted a concept art of it on their instagram once)

Odontochelys semitestacea (already in the mini line)

Psephochelys polyosteoderma (also posted concept art of this one, looks a lot like their glyphoderma figure)

Qianosuchus mixtus

Guizhoucoelacanthus guanlingensis

Sinamia huananensis

Birgeria liui

Guizhouamia

Protopsephurus liui

crazy8wizard

If PNSO makes a Mixosaurus and Guanlingsaurus I will be one happy ichthyosaur collector.
The only option for Mixosaurus is a holy grail rarity and the only option for Guanlingsaurus is a sphere (though I do like the goofy charm of the animal heavenly body figures).

Faelrin

Man if they could make a figure of that Nothosaurus sculpture with a similar color scheme, it would be glorious to see (particularly since the Atopodentatus has a similar coloration to its counterpart, if not the new Dinocephalosaurus as well). I forgot to mention this earlier, but I'm glad to see another Triassic period animal from them, and yet another marine reptile. It's been so long since we got any marine reptiles from them (prior to the Guizhouichthyosaurus), so I hope we get at least one more before they do go back to dinosaurs again. These two genera were much needed on the market. I hope to pick up both later this year (if not more PNSO I am behind on, but still lots of new Mattel, etc to catch up on as well).

Nothosaurus youngi (would love a figure of this one)

Xinminosaurus catactes

Qianosuchus mixtus

Those 3 would fit perfectly with the 1/10 scale used for Atopodentatus and Dinocephalosaurus.
