In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

Takara Tomy 2021 eurypterid. avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres and others - based on the shape of the telson, pretty sure this is in the genus Acutiramus

body length 9.0 cm; total length (incl. appendages) 12.0 cm. minimal assembly

Faelrin

Glad to see this one here. I think this is greener then what the promo pic showed right? Still looks great. May make a nice companion to the Colorata one.

you know what, the more I study Kaiyodo's 'Pterygotus' the more I think they are Acutiramus, the latter of which has been synonymized with the Pterygotus sometimes. I wonder if the sculptor was using an outdated reference. Looking at the shape of the telson and the ridge on the subterminal segment (the segment right before the telson), the Kaiyodo figures appear to have been influenced by Acutiramus!

Halichoeres

Yeah, I think brontodocus came to the same conclusion. He says something to that effect on the Kaiyodo reference page on Facebook. Nice to have independent corroboration!

Why oh why did a spam bot have to get me excited thinking there was a legitimate update to this thread?

Oh well hopefully this serves as a reminder to me to share those repainted Takara Tomy figures here when I get them in hand. More specifically the Anomalocaris, trilobite, and eurypterid.

Crackington

Yes, I also was looking forward to seeing a new post here.

However, I thought that it was very difficult for spammers to join the Forum now with the new questions process, so it's possible this was posted here in error?

MartinmTrevino might wish to re-post it here in the pets topic instead:

yeah I need to be better about adding to this thread, too!

Halichoeres

Sufficiently devoted spammers can still get through, this isn't the first time. What's unusual in this instance is that the mods have not responded; this sort of post used to be deleted pretty promptly.

Anyway, since we're here, here's CollectA's Cooperoceras:

And in this post I identify the several unusual invertebrates in Kabaya's latest Hone Hone Zaurus set: http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=10065.msg327180#msg327180

B @bmathison1972 Did you make that reef behind the figure (which its stand blends well with)? If so fantastic work. I'm guessing the blue is like one of those blue aquarium backgrounds?

avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin - no I bought them on YAJ years ago through Brett. They were handmade out of Japan. I also have a creek, a forest/log, and an underwater freshwater scene.

Faelrin

B @bmathison1972 Oh interesting. Sounds like cool finds for sure. Congrats on getting your hands on them. This reef here in particular looks really good.

I'm reasonably conversant in taxonomic abbreviations, but I confess to being stumped by "nec." What's it stand for?

Yikes; thanks for catching that. Should have been 'ex' not 'nec'. The term nec is used for separating homonyms

Ohhh, so it's just the ordinary Latin adverb "nec," not an abbreviation at all. Shows how much Latin I know.
