At 4 letters it is was 1 letter shorter than Minmi, making it the new shortest dinosaur name!

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

Very cool!  I wonder if the skin impressions mentioned are the same as those illustrated on the tail, because that's an interesting pattern.

And two letters longer than Yi.  ;)

It's spelled "Dana," Takama, not "Danna."

Aside from the fact I think that's hilarious they named it that, I'm really glad to hear about a new (and good) find, especially an ankylosaurid.

How soon do you suppose we'll see a toy of some sort? Collecta for 2018, maybe? :))

Great name.  I can only hope it could be in toy form in two years.

I watched it just last week with my boys. So the 6-year-old loved the Zuul name, and even recognized the facial commonalities when I told  him why it got that name.

And add me the roll of voices calling for a figure...

Paleona

I was just reading about Zuul this morning! Awesome name and find :') I love that the specific name translates to "Destroyer of Shins", too, lol :))

Loon

Didn't Sigourney Weaver just turn into one of the dogs, not Zuul proper?

WarrenJB

Zuul was one of the dogs, working for Gozer. ;)

Nice artin' for the new-ankylosaur Zuul.

Oh, that's right. Shows how much I need to watch the movie again.

This seems to be a popular dinosaur! Two additional threads devoted to it besides this one.

What an exquisite fossil! And the specific name is certainly appropriate for an Ankylosaur... It's also really good to see decent reconstructions on release for once. ;)

[about Lystrosaurus] Astonishingly, their vast herds make up more than half of all life on Earth. Never again will a single species do so well.
