This looks pretty much like my Bandai Godzilla in size and sculpt, but the Bandai does not show the hinge axle at the lower jaw. Bought the Godzilla via aliexpress for 30 bucks, aswell as the double pack of Rodan and Mothra.

Hiya Toys' main site lists them for $39.99, but Big Bad Toy Store's list price is $49.99 (admittedly still pretty good). I haven't seen any other retailers list these yet.

I'm definitely looking forward to these; although the jaw pin and a couple of other joints look a little unseemly, it seems like Hiya Toys is hitting the sweet spot between NECA and S.H. Monsterarts for both accuracy and articulation. Hopefully the quality control is good, and the durability leans closer to the NECA side.

What I'm really hoping for is the line succeeding enough for us to get MUTOs...

It's good to see Rodan getting a reissue. Sadly my own copy of the 1st release has a broken leg I haven't figured out how to fix yet.

Glad I sold my first release as the promotional images looked so much better than the final release.

Hopefully this second issue will fix many of the problems the first one had... particularly in the paint department. Was missing a lot of reds, yellows and blacks to add depth to the figure. The head was a point of contention for many too, limited paint detail and odd design choices (poorly painted eyes in the wrong colour, and weird red tips on the beak).

Been thinking about picking some of these up next year maybe. I was especially impressed with how King Ghidorah turned out, after seeing a review on it. Might have to pick that up and the new Rodan.

That said any recommendations towards either the previous Godzilla variations or the upcoming ones? Like between the upcoming 2014 one, KotM, GvsK (updated ver) versions (ignoring the heat ray and burning), do you folks have a particular preference? I'm actually (surprisingly) still behind on watching KotM (and Kong Skull Island), but I did watch the recent Godzilla vs Kong (wonder if Hiya Toys will also do Mecha from that one), plus the original 2014 one way back when it first released. I see with the 2014 one it will be slightly smaller, and it seems the plates on the KotM design are much bigger. Not sure what the difference between the KotM and GvsK designs are though, other then the slight size difference of the figures, and maybe paint as well? Also wondering if I should go for either the regular or translucent version of the heat ray GvsK design.

Definitely interested in the Heisei era one, considering I was born during that era, and some of my favorite films and designs are from then.

@Faelrin the KOTM and GvK figures are basically the same figure, only difference is the paint.

KOTM is a lighter grey, with sand/dirt/light brown dry brush all over it mixed with some flesh tones giving it a "dirty" look. It has white eyes with pupils, with can lead to somewhat wonky looking eyes in some copies. The use of flesh tones gives the illusion of painted teeth, but in reality, they aren't.

GvK is a darker grey, with a slight greenish tint and some dark brown washes, giving it a more clean look, the eyes are full brownish color with black pupils. The teeth are unpainted.

I personal went with the GvK (unfortunately the store were I preorder doesn't get it until February  ) mostly for the eyes, painting the teeth should be rather easy, unlike fixing eyes...
At the end of the day, it comes to personal preference, which color variation you prefer.

For the heat ray, the translucent version seem to have a lighter blue dorsal plates compared to the painted one, the painted one also has blue paint on it's chest and belly, while the translucent doesn't. The translucent one hasn't been released yet, but having already the painted one, I couldn't care less about it.

The 2019 KOTM figure also has improved neck articulation over the 2021 GvsK version; I think a few other sculpting & articulation details were subtley improved on as well.

2014 vs 2019 will be a much more noticeable difference in design. Compared to 2014, the 2019 design has a more robust chest, larger classic-looking dorsal spines, a blunter tail, longer & sharper toes, and possibly a shorter, smaller neck/head.
