It's become like a badge of honour with Mattel to make toys of obscure dinosaurs.  While most figure lines play it fairly safe and only make better known animals Mattel does them all.  And they make money off of every figure they release, so what the hay!

Expecting Ruopodosaurus by year's end.   :)

Some of these are relatively recently named animals too. Stegouros, Guemesia, Jakapil, Iani, and others were all within the past couple of years.

Edit: I don't know how much energy I have for it tonight, but I really do want to go through the list of mainline genera, and see what's the most recent named, and the oldest (Megalosaurus, and Iguanodon of course).

That sounds like fun! There's also the angle of like, fastest time between being described and getting a figure

To me it is very frustrating, I don't want/need obscure critters for my Jurassic Park display... I want popular ones! Where is Acrocanthosaurus, Mattel?

At least I'm saving money.

Faelrin

Yeah it is strange Acrocanthosaurus, Deinocheirus, Yutyrannus, and others are still mia. Two of those I know almost went into CC, but ultimately didn't so there's nothing stopping them from adding them to the mainline.

We're also missing several canon species:
-Microceratus (Dominion)
-Oviraptor (Dominion)
-Smilodon (Camp Cretaceous)
-Spinoceatops Angel and Rebel (Camp Cretaceous)
-Tarbosaurus (Camp Cretaceous)

Moros and Iguanodon also desperately need redone, in addition to the Dominion Parasaurolophus.

New pics. Maia's looking really nice for a mainline offering, though the singular horn is a rather amusing error. It should really do a hat swap with the original bar-crested Majungasaurus!

I just wish they could get the digits right on ornithopods. Edmontosaurus, Iguanodon, and Ouranosaurus also all suffer botched limbs. Now Maiasaurus as well.

Halichoeres

So that gorgonopsid is Inostrancevia. And the little thyreophoran is Yuxisaurus, which was a new one for me.

Where did you see confirmation of that? Inostrancevia would be great to have, alongside the three Scutosaurus figures they've released.

Edit: Nevermind. Just watched Andy's newest news video.

New basic figures (Rebirth designs):
-Mosasaurus
-Quetzalcoatlus
-Spinosaurus
-Tyrannosaurus

Strike Attack (or whatever?):
-new pterosaur? (edit: no mystery, I forgot about the Tapejara lol)
-Monolophosaurus
-Inostrancevia:

-Yuxisaurus (the yellow spiked, and brown leg ankylosaur):

Mighty Little Biters:
-Carnotaurus

Double post, but for anyone interested in that list of every mainline scale thing Mattel's made, from newest to oldest named genera (and species) see here:

It's everything from 2018 to present/upcoming.

Seeing as how Mattel is doing repaints again, can we finally get one of the first Scutosaurus?

It's very rare these days for me to see mainline release that will be an instant buy for me but that Inostrancevia is going to be a must have release! Here's hoping they don't absolutely fumble the distribution for that wave yet again  ::)

Gwangi

I knew that thing was an Inostrancevia! Some of y'all wanted to speculate that it was something crazy, like Dentaneosuchus, but I knew what it was. I knew.  :*D

andrewsaurus rex

i'm not sure Dentaneosuchus was such crazy speculation, given Mattel's penchant for making obscure dinos and prehistoric reptiles.  I say lucky guess, Gwangi.  :D

Postosuchus and Edaphosaurus too. Those two received very limited releases as well.

Also, with Mattel willing to produce more permian non-dinosaurs. We're getting closer and closer to the prospect of an Estemmenosuchus!

Nah, not a lucky guess. I knew immediately it was at least a gorgonopsid and most likely Inostrancevia. It doesn't look anything like Dentaneosuchus or Mattel's past pseudosuchians.

avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi Right you were. Aside from the exaggerated bottom fangs, the top more or less line up with Inostrancevia's teeth as well. Now porportions are wonky (including it being digitigrade it seems), but yeah the head is a good give away. The pic on JPToys atm is a good one to compare the head.

Edit: They did a repaint/retool (no actiom feature) of the original Scutosaurus in the JP 30th set with the Ford Explorer back in 23. Not sure they'll do another one so soon avatar_suspsy @suspsy.

That's precisely why we need another repaint released all by itself, with the action feature intact.

avatar_suspsy @suspsy I don't disagree with you and I hope they do. I know not everyone had access to those JP 30th sets either. Which reminds me I still need to get that 2020 one reviewed. Might wait for this Insotrancevia and my HC Scutosaurus pre-order to go through on BBTS for a comparison. Got a few others to do in the meantime anyways.

To be honest, Gwangi....i don't think a lot of Mattel's figures look anything like what they are supposed to be....lol.
