It looks pretty cute to me too. I like the beluga face and it kind of has a pug-ish look to it with the deformation.
I really like the soulful owl-like eyes it has on that drawn Empire cover.

The upper Imaginext set kinda looks like she is leading her own team of saurians into battle.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Quote from: Cretaceous Crab on May 02, 2025, 12:28:24 AMI was somewhat in the same boat at first, but it is growing on me as well. To each his own, but one thing that has kind of helped me wrap my head around it is: if we are to believe it is merely a mutant, and not a hybrid, then at its genetic core, it is meant to be a T. rex, albeit a malformed one that didn't cook right in the egg and later given a different name. If that indeed is the case, its story may prove to be a little sad and I almost see myself feeling sorry for it. Despite its appearance, it is actually more of a real dinosaur than the Indominus rex, Indoraptor and Scorpius rex.

And ironically those look like dinosaurs that could exist (minus the Scorpios), while this looks like an alien creature or Kaiju. I can't buy it as a deformed dinosaur because of it.

It's based on an existing genetic condition, look up four legged chickens.
Trans rights are human rights.

Good finds Faelrin, I find the machete a surprisingly brutal addition to that baby line? Lol
I wonder if she'll have that in the film or if it's just random.

Oh man so many announcements. FINALLY A TIGER RAPTOR, now all we need is Buck (and a 93 raptor redo) and I'll be done with all the JP dinos from the hammond collection. I don't really need or want a jp3 Brachi or Para. I miiiight be interested in a Mamenchi but eh.

That Troodon looks interesting, kinda dig that they're paying homage to the telltale game. I wonder if they'll do the same for a Herrerasaurus down the line?

They already did a telltale Herrera in the mainline years ago

2018 in fact. Might be acceptable to have another at this point?

Edit: Acceptable is a weird word choice now that I think about it, but I don't know what else to go with at the moment.

My thoughts on everything in the Rebirth line so far: (warning, this will be very long!)
Story Packs
Reuben+ Parasaur- The para is certainly an improvement over the dominion one!
Loomis+ Pteranodon- Definitely picking up the pteranodon set, and maybe even get a second set and customize the pteranodon into Rodan ;D
Bennet+ Velociraptor- It's another raptor. Good mold, but still another raptor, and I have enough raptors as is.
Kincaid+ Velociraptor- Ok, i'm gonna make an exception for this raptor. It even has painted toes!
Spinosaurus Danger Set- I may pick this up instead of the standard spino, but maybe not.
Frenzy Pack
Edmontonia- Mattel's best ankylosaur yet.
Iani- it's ok, still always cool to see Mattel make figures of obscure dinosaurs.
Proceratosaurus- Just wish it had more articulation, still a decent figure
Torvoneustes- Definitely picking this up, very nice
Archaeornithomimus- That's meant to be an Archaeornithomimus!?
Bepiaosaurus- Great to see more Therizinosaur representation besides the Therizino itself.
Ceoptera- It's ok, probably wont pick it up.
Minquaria- Again, probably won't pick it up.
Strike Attack
Inostrancevia- Definitely picking this up, mostly because of Dinosaur Revolution Nostalgia.
Monolophosaurus- Seems like the Indoraptor was trying to sneak himself into the line! ;D
Tapejara- the exact same figure from the Dino Rivals line, with a bit of new paint.
Yuxisaurus- It's a pretty neat avocado!
Achillobator- One of my favorite Dromaeosaurs from Mattel so far
Herrerasaurus- I like the colors, other than that, it's kinda mid
Nanotyrannus- Is it just me, or does it kinda look like the baby T-rexes from the 2008 Turok game? Definitely Gonna pick him up.
Zuniceratops- Certainly an improvement over the last Zuniceratops from Mattel.
Wild Roar
Baryonyx- Pretty nice figure, but not a fan of the tomato red colors.
Maiasaura- One of my favorites of the line!
Nasutoceratops- Finally getting a new adult Nasuto!
Utahraptor- Another one of Mattel's beest Raptors.
Abelisaurus- no
Aucasaurus- It's alright.
Euoplocephalus- Pretty neat figure
Spiclypeus- It's actually pretty cool.
Gigantic Thrashers
Eotriceratops- a worthy opponent for the Habitat Defender Triceratops
Tyrannotitan- It's just ok
Chilataisaurus- Jeez, edgy much? Still a neat figure
Purussaurus- I NEED IT!!!!
Other Figures
Mosasaurus- Nice, and can't wait for the scene in the film where the mosa throws up a live Dilophosaurus onto the crew's boat!
Quetzalcoatlus- Mattel's best quetzal yet
Spinosaurus- It's alright, probably gonna pick up the set with the other Spino instead.
Titanosaurus- Cool, but I have no space in my room to hold this guy.
Lab Lockdown T-rex- Probably the T-rex I will pick up.
Power Devour T-rex- Yeah, i'm not gonna get this one.
Launch and Battle set- It's alright.
D-rex- pretty cool, i've definitely warmed up to this ugly bugger.
Micro Playsets- Pretty Cool!
My Wishlist
All the story packs, except for the Bennett and Velocirptor set.
Bepaiosaurus
Inostrancevia
Achillobator
Nanotyrannus
Maiasaura
Utahraptor
Quetzalcoatlus
Lab Lockdown T-rex
D-rex
T.rex and Mosa Micro Playsets

Quote from: Flaffy on May 01, 2025, 09:24:45 AMMattel is definitely not holding back for a movie year. Even the non-cannon figures look higher effort than usual. Plenty of figures for unique species collectors ( avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres I imagine you'll be getting quite a few of these?).

Yep, I'm adding something like a dozen Mattel figures this year. Happy to support a company that's introducing kids to new taxa (even if they're not always the ones I'd prioritize).
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

I like that mattel has chosen obscure species because sometimes they're ones I really like. LIke what do you mean before 2023 the only Eoraptor figure available online was a knockoff Jojo stand figure???

Faelrin

avatar_crazy8wizard @crazy8wizard Please show me this one. I need to see it lol.

Also yes I'm so glad they did Eoraptor. Love having this little watermelon dude in my collection.

Likewise. I wish they did more of the two-packs. As now it's really awkward having something as large as a Guanlong be smaller than a Hypsilophodon.

Dilopho

Jehelopterus would be a great choice for a small pack.

I think somebody at the distributor confused Eoraptor with DIOraptor.
I much prefer the watermelon critter over this scary monster!

Faelrin

That's like the first time I've seen that figure advertised as Eoraptor. That's hilarious. It's anything but, lol.

The D. rex toy is called Rumble 'N Rampage, so presumably that "built in snarl" is referring to vibration in the head, like that one Epic Roarin' T. rex, or whatever it was called. The Camp Cretaceous one.

NGL I find these gimmicks too much sometimes. I'm sure the kids are very entertained by them, but I prefer to be able to pose and move my dinosaur toys on my own terms, rather than have a built-in mechanism with preset movements do it for me.

Hence why I find the 'Lab Lockdown' rex superior to its 'Power Devour' counterpart.

Me too, I do photography of these guys for fun and I get tired of having to discreetly jam debris into their joints and buttons to keep them holding a simple pose.
