We never have been so back.
I can't wait to see more images but wow, those all look stunning! Having a new Yangchuanosaurus is very very welcome and I was hoping this one would turn out great and it really nails the vibe.
The Anhanguera looks perfect too, LOVE the colors. Having E. annectens is also great and another case of amazing colors, I love the orange.
The T.rex is cool, I don't know how likely a properly feathered tail like this would be, but it does give the model some extra flavor I suppose.

So so so happy to see these!! I lost hope on Papo and haven't bought a dinosaur from them in years. These are STUNNING! I can easily see myself getting all of them minus the rex (I simply just have too many rexes).

Anyone else think these digitally sculpted figures look like they were done by Zhao Chuang/Cheung Chung Tat?

Also interesting to note the color scheme for the Edmontosaurus is taken directly from Antonin Jury's Lambeosaurus piece

No. Cheung has a much softer, less monstrous style. And I don't see why Zhao would work with a French company when he's got his own paleomedia empire back home.

Quote from: SpartanSquat on December 15, 2024, 05:52:03 PMMr Seo is back baby!

I think I've asked this before, but do we know for a fact these are sculpted by Mr Seo? The Yangchuanosaurus at least resembles the Suchomimus's style a lot. This latest batch, along with the Suchomimus, look digitally sculpted. The Suchomimus has clearly defined individual scales down to the minute level. While Mr Seo tends to go for more JP-style cracked leathery skin +/- large crocodilian scales.

We don't know for sure I think, but really he's the only papo sculptor who makes models this good, so unless they've hired someone new it has to be him.

Which is what I am suggesting. I think they've hired a new artist to do these digital sculpts.

Could be wrong, but I was somewhat under the impression that Mr. Seo sculpts traditionally?

Papo's best lineup in I don't know how long, a decade maybe? Nice to see a return to form! I already have decent models of all these genera in my collection, the only one I'm really interested in is the Anhanguera. Hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer for the Suchomimus.  ::)

SpartanSquat

I doubt he did these, it would be working for the competition like flaffy said. But these looks like were done by mr seo. Remember sucho render was in the catalogue before pics were shown.
Probably we will have in hand pics of the dinosaurs in the toy fair.

avatar_Concavenator @Concavenator, look all four of the new Papo prehistoric figures turned out good! :)  It's nice to see Papo have a strong lineup.  I prefer the PNSO Yangchuanosaurus "magnus" to this Papo version, so I'll stick with the PNSO version.  The Tyrannosaurus and Edmontosaurus don't interest me, but I have to say they look impressive.  To my surprise I might get the Anhanguera.  I find its family of pterosaurs the least interesting type of pterosaur, but this one looks so good that I'm not sure I can resist it.  Concavenator, I too am not sure why Anhanguera gets more attention than Tropeognathus, but the latter was made by Mojo.  I didn't think Eofauna would make Edmontosaurus anytime soon and now that Papo's made this Edmontosaurus I think that even more.

I'm sad to see the Papo feathered Velociraptor retired, but maybe Papo is planning something...  Papo retired their Nile crocodile which was a popular figure without replacing it initially, and even keeping their baby crocodile available.  I was confident Papo was planning a new crocodile figure, and for 2025 they are doing a saltwater crocodile!  Maybe Papo will have another feathered dromaeosaurid coming in the coming years.

I need to see Rebor's Kiss next to that Edmontosaurus...

Quote from: suspsy on December 15, 2024, 06:05:15 PMI think giving the T. rex a feathery tail is a rather brilliant move. We've already had plenty of T. rexes with feathers on their heads and torsos. This one will stand out.
I agree wholeheartedly.  I take a break from this forum for a good long while and I come back to a very neat depiction of a feathered rex.
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

you know, given the other sculptors work isnt present, perhaps our comments destroyed his/her career 😭😭😭

Trust me, those types of comments were not just coming from here.

avatar_Sim @Sim Glad to be proven wrong!  ;)

After last year's announcements, I admit the Suchomimus got me curious. It could either represent an outlier (well, until that point, it certainly was  :P ) or it could hint to a possibility of Papo actually releasing good figures. I'm glad the second option turned out to be true, I wasn't holding my breath. Heck, I was hoping for/expecting 1 of them (the Anhanguera) not to be junk, and none of the 2025 lineup are, I didn't see that coming!  ;D

I'll be happy to pick up that Anhanguera, it looks great! Will have to think how to raise it from the shelf though...

Not that I'm interested in the others, but hopefully they'll be 1:35 scale, because that'd mean Papo has realized that 1:35 is the generally preferred scale for large animals. A priori I think they might be larger than that, because that image of the Suchomimus prototype suggested a bigger figure than PNSO's Suchomimus, which is also larger than 1:35. But we'll see.

I have some quirks with the Tyrannosaurus and the Edmontosaurus. As for the former, it's a bit odd (not saying it's necessarily inaccurate) to see a derived tyrannosauroid with such extensive feathering nowadays. A depiction like this I would've expected to show up before 2017, but not nowadays. The tail feathers in particular look rather out of place for a species like this.

As for the Edmontosaurus, it looks great overall, but it appears to have a "duck bill" when, ironically, the so-called "duck-billed" dinosaurs had bills that didn't resemble a duck's.  :P Also, I know some people were hoping for a crestless E. annectens, and I can't argue with that, but it would make sense to expect it having a crest, if it descends from E. regalis as it's thought. Just as E. regalis is depicted with "hooves" nowadays despite the "hoof" having been found on a later, E. annectens specimen.

The Yangchuanosaurus looks good. I just don't like the species.

Quote from: Sim on December 15, 2024, 10:17:04 PMConcavenator, I too am not sure why Anhanguera gets more attention than Tropeognathus, but the latter was made by Mojo.  I didn't think Eofauna would make Edmontosaurus anytime soon and now that Papo's made this Edmontosaurus I think that even more.

Thank you for the remark about Mojo's Tropegnathus. I looked it up and I'd seen it before, I just forgot about it (and I'm not surprised, not a fan of it).

I still think the chances are high for an Eofauna Edmontosaurus. It will be either it, Parasaurolophus or Iguanodon for their first ornithopod I think. I don't think they care about what other company may have made before, and with how mainstream their dinosaur species choices have been as of late, I really don't see them releasing an ornithopod that's not 1 of the aforementioned genera.

Well, in conclusion, these Papo reveals have made me happy! I may have some quirks, but Suchomimus aside, these are far better than anything Papo has recently made. When I was a kid I held Papo in high esteem, and unfortunately, a point was reached when Papo's figures became so bad they became equivalent to Schleich in my eyes, which is a shame to say, but it's what they were proving. Right now I no longer consider them equal, Papo has confirmed its former superiority, which feels both fair and overdue to say!

Sim

I just looked at the large image of the Papo Edmontosaurus on Paleofiguras and I think I can't tell if it has a duck-bill.  Maybe we'll have to wait until a photo of the figure appears to be able to tell.

If Eofauna wants to make an Edmontosaurus I don't think they would keep asking about Magnapaulia.

Faelrin

Not a bad first look, but nothing jumps out to me as must have atm. I feel like the feathered T. rex is a few years little too late to jump on that bandwagon, and the tail feathers look overdone and not really reminiscent of something its relatives had.

I just noticed Papo retired their normal-coloured leopard a few years ago without replacing it.  Even popular animals like the leopard and Velociraptor aren't safe from retirement it appears!  This reminds me that Papo's baby Tyrannosaurus were retired too, so even Tyrannosaurus isn't safe!  On that note, the Papo brown running Tyrannosaurus isn't in the new catalog either!

Besides the unreleased Sucho, this lineup for next year is pretty good. Glad to see Papo having a good year ahead after so many mediocre ones.

So happy to see no alien Concavenators. This list of releases looks great!

It's probably not the most scientifically accurate but that tail looks great on the T.rex. Coupled with the super dynamic pose, this really screams Papo's "slightly awesomebro" aesthetic.

The colours on this Edmontosaurus are really quite brilliant as well, uncommon as far as I can remember. The pose looks slightlyyyy stiff, but I'm sure it'll turn out alright in the end.

Still most hyped for their Suchomimus, but these guys would look absolutely at home with the Sucho. Am not the biggest fan of Yangchuanosaurus or Anhanguera in general, but they are able to excite collectors from just a product image, and I'm happy for those who've been waiting for these species.

Feels like Papo's second wind, almost like they've finally broken free of their COVID rut.

triceratops83

This is the first time in years I've actually been excited for new Papo toys. The Edmontosaurus and Yangchuanosaurus are definite buys from me. Pity they probably won't make it to Australia - we still don't have most of the 2023 stuff, let alone any of the 2024 catalogue.
In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.
