As much as I dislike Marshall's gnarly, spiky Spinosaurs, I have to say that the Giganotosaurus may be the best painting of one that I have ever seen ...

If Papo does a Giganotosaur, they should take Marshall's painting above and copy it right down to the color scheme!

I'd certainly buy it.. ;D

That giggy is an example of what I wish TM would paint more of- there is no overdone, unbelievable superfluous spines. I like his feathered dinosaurs too (like his oviraptor and troodon) because the fuzzy bits actually make sense on an animal that is feathered. It just looks terrible to me when a scaly dinosaur is covered in so many spines and yet doesn't have any feathers/fuzz anywhere else.  If you're going to stick so many spikes on the animal, why not just go the whole hog and feather it from head to toe?

Also, regarding the spiky spinosaurs: shouldn't an animal which is theorised to live a partially aquatic lifestyle need to be smooth and streamlined as possible? What purpose do those spikes serve? I've never understood this artistic meme of sticking massive amounts of spikes on spinosaurids- crocodilians certainly don't look like that nor does any aquatic species I've seen...

OT but crocodilians aren't too stream lined..that's more needed for animals who need to be fat in the water. Spinosaurs could have been lurking fisherman. Perhaps he was looking at marine iguanas :

Perhaps all the spiney bits along with coloration disguise the animal, especially when young ?  I know McVey added a few of them to his spinosaurus for Sideshow..he told me it really helped show it was a water creature..at least to him.

I actually really like a lot of Todd Marshall's drawings. But anyway, I think the Giganotosaurus should look like this:

"The world's still the same. There's just less in it."

I'm sure Papo will overlook this

I can't help thinking how much better my WS Dilophosaurus could have been if the palms actually faced each other.

Marshal's Spinosaurus is extremely offensive by virtue of its inexplicably thick neck and overkilled spikes.

His Giganotosaurus, however, is excellent.

I agree.

I don't like his Dimetro much, either.

He just needs to stop with the spine overload and his work would be great.

Maybe it broke its hand.  :o

Yup, playing basketball  :D
Just heat it up with a hairdryer, twist the claw round, and there you go.

I'm afraid I might just end up snapping them (the bunny hands). I'm going to wait for the inevitable Papo Dilophosaurus.

Concavenator

I really think if Papo decide to release it(Let's hope it! ;)),they would have chosen the best choice.I have been hoping it since maaaany time, and I'd be grateful with them. With regard to the Papo Dilophosaurus ,I think Papo should wait some years and release a Sideshow inspired Dilophosaurus (That would be great)Also that's what they have done with the Carnotaurus :waited some years and when people is hoping about a dino, release it.

Silly question. This is all speculative as to whether Papo is even considering a Giga figure??

Cool enough. I was just wondering as many of the comments read as if it were a done deal.

I have the blind faith and the absolute certainty that Papo will do next year a giganotosaurus that will surpass all the expectations of those of us who are collectors and members of the forum and I hope that it will surpass the quality of the figures therizinosaurus, acrocanthosaurus and quetzalcoatlus of Papo of this year.

The Papo brand can create the best giganotosaurus ever made in the history of the toy and will be of the same quality as the best paleoartistic representations of resin dinosaurs.

I hope so. I have an unpopular opinion when it comes to Vitae and resin kits of this dinosaur. It being my favourite since i was 5 kinda gave me expectations as to what a perfect Giganotosaurus would be for me. Safari Ltd still is my favourite especially afyery repaint and its almost perfect if it only had the level of detail from papo. Vitae is a nice addition but its pose is the kind that either looks good or bad depending on the angle you see and its legs are a bit skinny for my taste and i get the feet are accurate but couldn't hurt to have done it like shane foulkes did with his Giganotosaurus. As for Shane my only issue is the face is too unforgiving with paintjobs whether good or bad. The only paint job that seems good on it is the stock photo he has on his site. So i guess a combination of Shane's detail and leg and feet design and the pose from safari and head from either vitae or safari would be perfect!
