Now, we are at the final stages.
In this topic you can write as you would like to be done the Papo GIGANOTOSAURUS.
You can use: scientific descriptions, drawings, sculptures, pictures taken on the internet (legal please) and so on. You can also criticize and improve a choice with an other...
However, the Papo will decide freely how use this material that we will provide at them.
I'm also looking for a paleontologist (possibly) or more paleontologists than write two or three pages maximum (with pictures) to give some advice on how to make a precise GIGANOTOSAURUS and on mistakes to avoid.
Thank you all for your interest in this project...
I hope it will be successful!
GOOD DISCUSSION.

No offense Takama, but that Dino Crisis Giggy is well....really ugly  :-[  :-X

Blade-of-the-Moon

Hmm..I think someone already made that one. Schleich :

For a pop culture reference they could use Primeval and by extension WWD and Chased By Dinosaurs.

Here are some sculptures of Giga that I really like:

Jorge Blanco. Still need to get this kit ;D

I think the whole point of a Giga was to encourage Papo to use scientific sources (the Dino Crisis Giga is not so awesome)

Blade-of-the-Moon

Jorge's Giga was interesting...I had wanted it myself but heard it had some casting issues.  Jorge has expressed a desire to do a new Giga for the Dinosauria line though..a piece I'm eagerly anticipating.

Papo isn't too much for the science aspect ..but finding a good scientific piece they can work from should work.especially if it's popular.  Dino Crisis is popular but certainly not so accurate.

Fortunately, most of the available materials for reconstructing a Papo Giganotosaurus are quite good and anatomically reasonable for the most part (e.g. DK, Primeval, WWD).  The resin kits should provide ample stellar material for Papo to work with. Papo should definitely avoid Dino Crisis, Bullyland and Schleich. The Schleich Giga was a failed attempt at reproducing the DK Giga. The Dino Crisis model was not particularly accurate since it was rendered on dated 32 bit hardware.

The first, and most important thing they would need to do is capture the shape and size of the head/skull:

Its very important they get this right, otherwise it will look like some sort of Tyrannosaurus or Allosaurus.

After they get the animals head and proportions right (keep it scientific) I hope they go crazy with detail and style.. Papo brings a lot of flair to their products with great detail, style, pose and paint and I would want this to be no different. Basically, I want it to look like an agile, organic and lifelike creature. Here are a few representations I really like:

My favorite representations of Giganotosaurus include those by DK, Luis Rey, & Todd Marshall.

:) Here's a step-by-step guide to making an accurate Giganotosaurus:

Overall:  A large theropod, reaching 40 feet (13 meters) in length.  At 1:40 scale, it would be 12 inches (30 cm long).

Head: Like Demoncarnotaur said, the shape of the head is important in distinguishing this from similar dinosaurs.  I would describe it as somewhat tear-drop or triangular shaped when viewed in profile, with the near the back of the skull being the tallest part.  It is also fairly narrow.  There are small hornlets in front of the eyes and subtle ridges running down each side of the snout (the rough looking areas); these should be prominent, but not very large.  Teeth are large, triangular, and blade-like; like those of a shark.  The eyes are placed somewhat high on the skull.  The head is large compared to the body.

Neck:  The neck is fairly robust and should be about the same length as the skull or slightly less.

Body:  The body is standard for a theropod dinosaur.  From the shoulders to the base of the tail, it should be about twice the length of the skull.  Vertebral spines over the shoulders may have formed a shallow ridge that descended towards the hips.

Arms & hands:  The arms are quite small, only a little longer than Tyannosaurus's, and bear three functional fingers tipped with medium-sized hooked claws.  The palms should face inward towards eachother.  The upper and lower arm, and the fingers, are all about the same length.

Legs & feet:  Legs with feet are about as long as the body and neck combined.  The upper and lower leg are the same length.  Feet are standard for a theropod.  Legs should be robustly built.  The ankles are relatively short.

Tail:  The tail is slightly longer than the rest of the body and head combined.  It should be fairly robust.

Detail & color:  Feel free to add plenty of details.  Iguana-like spines and small lines of scutes down the back would be cool.  Some spines on the rear edge of the arm would be an interesting addition as well.  The display crests and hornlets on the snout should have a rough texture.  Any natural looking color pattern would work well, but make sure the display crests have a more prominenant pattern/color than the rest of the body.

I hope this helps! ;D

I noticed someone brought up the Dino Crisis series as a pop culture source for Papo to base their figure on. I think a Therizinosaurus should be made based off the series, as it's the perfect representation of the species!

Look at that impeccable accuracy!
