Hi everyone!  It's been ages since I've had the time to work on paleo stuff, but I've finally found the time to get a few new projects underway.  I've since completely overhauled my design process to something that is hopefully easier to prototype for (as shapeways has had more issues printing even some of my oldest models).  I hate to be a dork, but I'm not quite ready to reveal this guy yet.  Here is a blurtastic glimpse of things to come...

Updates:

I got my test print and everything looks great.  Although the initial plan was that the back foot could be glued to a base, with the weight and size of this figure I seriously fear toe breakage.  So tonight I designed a base with a support that can plug into the vent hole Shapeways uses to remove support material.  It is also now available in the shop. If you'd rather build your own base any dowel or rod that fits the slot (the hole is slightly bigger than an 1/8 of an inch) should actually do the trick though.

I took a few pictures with my camera but as everyone knows WSF hates cameras.

If you are interested in purchasing the Deinonychus it is available in my shapeways shop here:

and the base for him is available here:

 :D Hurra! Back in business!

Must be some kind of running Dromaeosaur - or am I totally wrong :-\?
Please show more ;D!

Oh, this is exciting :) Just wondering what the scale will be, and will the older models still be available in your store?

Blade-of-the-Moon

I have to vote for a dromeosaur of some kind as well..I love teasers.. lol

Patrx

Welcome back! That's an intriguing silhouette - here's hoping it's something feathery!

Looking again I think I see large feathered arms but not a tail...Deinonychus ? Utahraptor ?

You might be onto something there...

The scale is 1:12 like most of my other models, but it had to be shrunk slightly to be printable.  Still I would imagine it would be in the realm of variability between individuals.  Also, I will keep the models that are still printing available and I will try to get my other models into a printable state.

ding ding ding!  You guessed it.  This guy was a lot of fun to model, but very time consuming.  I hope you all like it.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Cool !

Well it does have a feathered tail after all..just not a hugely feathered one..lol This is pretty much what I would like if Sideshow were to do a dromeosaur maquette.

At 1:12 what size are looking at ? 12 inches ?  That works for me.

I will buy the largest version of this available as soon as possible! Needless to say, I am rather thrilled - been looking for a good Deinonychus figure for ages  ;D

amargasaurus cazaui

it is a nice dinosaur, just a bit under feathered for my taste.  haha gotcha Patrx, glad you finally got your feathered raptor
Oh and I almost forgot, perhaps you should offer to buy figures by private message, gosh we shouldnt post that.....lol, thats what I was told at least.

I modeled him just over 10 inches but the largest Shapeways can print it is 9 and a half.  It would definitely have to represent a smaller individual at 1:12.  It will still be quite sizable compared to my other models.

Oh wow, this is gorgeous....shame about the size though. I would prefer it to be a smaller scale since it would fit in the rest of my collection....and of course because I lack storage space :/ About the size of the Wild Safari velociraptor would have been nice. Oh well :)

Oh btw, the head strongly reminds me of this:

Not really complaining though since it's a beautiful piece of art.

Oh yes!  I should have mentioned Laurence Viollet's amazing resoration.  She is a colleage of mine and a fantastic artist!  Also, Scott Hartman was kind enough to let me reference his skeletal.  I really think he nailed the skull where so many others have failed in reconstructing it.  His just "feels" right.

Well 10" isn't bad. I didn't know Shapeways had a size restriction though...that's a buzzkill. :/

Here's a idea. Maybe cut the model up and print out various parts ?  If the size restriction is 9 and a half then you could make the tail a separate piece and still get a true 1:12 .  :)

That would make for enormously expensive model wouldnt it? The prices multiply rather astronomically once you above about five inches.

If that's the case, I think I'll go for the older (and smaller) Velociraptor instead....

Btw, battle-brak, will the issue with the Psittacosaurus forearms be addressed in future, or is that model gone for good? :)

Simon

Then how did David Krentz get his 1/40 TRex master printed up in Shapeways? Its longer than 10" by quite a bit. As I recall he printed the master, then sent it off to be moulded and sells the casts (I have one and it is phenomenal) ..
