Sorry it's not up yet.  I want to do tests runs from now on to make sure all future prints work smoothly before making them publicly available.  He'll be up as soon as I see that he prints well. ;D

I did want to ask if you noticed the fingers and feet, and number of claws thing I mentioned?

:) I'm liking the new Psittaco-version, the new structure on the stomach.

Your models sure have something special, Aaron.

         ................. You must do a 1:12 Guanlong ;D!

I think I missed that.   I'd like this to be as accurate as I can make it.  What was your concern?

Thanks!  Guanlong never crossed my mind, but I guess there are a shortage of decent small Guanlong models out there.

Is it just me, or should there not be only four toes and four fingers? I had understood that Psittacosaurus had evolved out both the fenestrae between the nostril and the eye, as well as the fifth digit on the hands and feet, both conditions that were present in more advanced ceratopsians, thus suggesting psittacosaurus itself was likely not the forebear of more derived ceratopsians.
In keeping with this the skeleton I have at my house does have only the three larger toes and the smaller claw. The hands have THREE fingers and it was sugested there was a fourth with no claw so that the digit does not preserve generally.

This was what I had asked previously. It is hard to tell from the pictures but to me it appears at least the model still has an extra digit on each limb. If you glance at one of Greg Pauls Psittacosaurus restorations it shows the hands and feet with the proper number of fingers and toes.

Oh okay, my model has three fingers and four toes.  However it looks like I need to get rid of one of the metacarpals on the hand.  Back when I modeled this a lot of reconstructions I turned up had two fingerless metacarpals.  Now it appears there is only one.  So it looks like this animal had 3 fingers + 1 fingerless nub and 4 toes (with the first being reduced). Does that seem right?

Yes that identically matches the way my mounted skeleton is displayed. It also matches the restorations that I have seen and to my understanding is entirely correct.
Other than that the model appears highly accurate to me. I think if that were addressed you would have the most accurate psittacosaurus on the market . And if it helps, would gladly serve as a guinea pig and purchase one to see if it is printable, thanks.

thanks for the reference wings!  I'll take that into account and fix those hands.

UPDATE:

I got my test print in the mail today and everything looks great.  Although the initial plan was that the back foot could be glued to a base, with the weight and size of this figure I seriously fear toe breakage.  So tonight I designed a base with a support that can plug into the vent hole Shapeways uses to remove support material.  It is also now available in the shop. If you'd rather build your own base any dowel or rod that fits the slot (the hole is slightly bigger than an 1/8 of an inch) should actually do the trick though.

I took a few pictures with my camera but as everyone knows WSF hates cameras.

If you are interested in purchasing the Deinonychus it is available in my shapeways shop here:

and the base for him is available here:

Deiny looks gorgeous <3 I might get one and paint him up like the harpy eagle inspired reconstruction I posted earlier :) I like that you included a base too.

Joel

Great new model!  :)) I'll order him sometime this week, and I'll paint it up like one of these guys:

Balaur

Aaron Doyle

Thanks again for the kind words everyone.  I can't wait to see how these get painted up.

Awesome, I think that color scheme works great for the animal.  In fact overall I think that is one of the best Deinonychus life restorations I've ever seen.  It's cool but feels like a real animal which is quite hard to pull off sometimes.

I have more stuff in the works.

What scale is the Pachyrhinosaurus? (I'm guessing that is what it is :)

I like it, although something about the skin bothers me a little. Maybe it's too saggy, and obscures the animal's form too much? Could just be a stylistic thing of course (and I know some people are trying to move away from the ultra defined GSP look nowadays)

jtn144

Oh now that is very nice!, like TQ said what scale is this going to be?

postsaurischian

Of course I had to order the Deinonychus immediately :).

:D Wow, the Pachyrhinosaurus (lakustai?) looks awesome!
It's great to see you working on new models.

brontodocus

Three times awesome! :) So good to see some new dinosaur models by you, Aaron.

Absolutely! And, yes, it's apparently P. lakustai. :)

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a T-rex by Krentz? My friends all have Sideshow, I must make amends.

Aaron Doyle

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  It's P. lakustai and I'm working on 1:40 and 1:72 scale.  I hope to have them both up soon.

Joel

Would you consider releasing your Pachyrhinosaurus in 1/18 scale? You can divide it into pieces so it can be printed out and then assembled as a kit.
