Blade-of-the-Moon

1/40 Rex built and painted by Tommy Kollmer :

Wow! Pretty cool. Very natural looking. The base is really nice. It looks like ash that is being turned into a slurry by rain. The  lumps of dirt on his feet ground him nicely.

Thanks David, I'll let Tommy know you like it. :)

I was originally shooting for a right after-comet impact , just after the firestorm scenario...but perhaps a forest fire when the rains come would be really nice as well..I could add some burnt trees to it for that.    The paint scheme is very realistic, it was based on the Dino Rev. Rex .

So I may have finally gone to the dark side, but I've been around too many kids toys that are intended to be cute and turn out to be awful to hold back on this.  I thought I'd give my kids something similar that their daddy made.  Its a chubby little Allosaurus.  The intent is to be caricatured and cute yet still have enough accuracy in there for kids ( and adults ) who KNOW what kind of dinosaur is in their hands.  I've loaded this on Shapeways and I'm waiting the casts.  I did a larger 5 inch scale that I ordered it in ceramic and a smaller 3 inch one ordered in polished White Strong and Flexible and also an avocado green ceramic.  I'll post them if and when they arrive.

I'm a long-time lurker here, but that allosaurus is awesome enough to bring me out and post.

David, have you thought of looking into and finding out what it would take to make that Allosaurus into a vinyl toy?  A line of these, in vinyl, would make a stunning line of kids' toys..I know my 1-year old son would love these, and I would love that he's playing with "accurate" dinosaurs.

I've always loved your stuff, but this fellow really takes it to a different level/direction.. Scientific accuracy and de Seve-ish charm all rolled into one..Awesome stuff!

Hahaha! If only I had one of these when I was a child.

Thanks Tom

The De Seve reference makes me happy, but Peter would probably push the design even further and still maintain appeal. I worked with him a little bit at Disney. What a talented guy. I wish I could produce a colored viynal version of any of my dinos just like Safari etc. that is a serious investment. I've checked.
Who knows, maybe a kickstarter project is in order.
Glad you like him though!  I had fun making him.

Dinohunter, you contribute regularly to the " Dinosaur Toy Forum" so I'd say there is still a good deal of kid left in you;-)

Hey Kickstarter works...I've seen it. Let em know and I'm in.  ;) It's Allosaurus and it's CUTE..what's not to love ?  ;D

Maybe we could start one to also get Rex Mundi back up and going again...I feel like we need a petition or something for her..lol If I had the money I would just buy the bronze and be done with it of course.. ;D

While I'm thinking big..any chance for a new larger scale dino kit or sculpture at some point David ?

Tom_Babbey

Totally agreed, Peter's stuff is rad; his Ice Age designs were all kinds of awesome (That jaw on the Smilodon was such a gutsy, awesome design move).

And yeah, man..I would totally consider a kickstarter campaign if I were you.  you have both the science and art guys who would be in support of it.  With some good forum/facebook word-of-mouth, and maybe asking folks at blogs for a shout-out,  I think you'd have a good chance of getting the project funded.

I thought it was going to have to be pre-ordered, like the previous Rex was. The 1/40 dinos have thus far NOT been available on SW.

jayjaym

David i would totally support you with your kickstarter! I love your dinosaur models on shapeway!

krentz

Hey guys

The Kosmo and Majunga were not completed by Moddler before they took a summer break.
I told them there was no rush, so don't blame them. They will be back on the 3rd of August and in a few weeks I'll send them to Mike for casting. Sorry for the delay.
To make a 1/40 Shapeways 15 plus foot Dino does not make ecconmic sense, but I will try a Troodon in that scale and see if that seems reasonable.

Mr Krentz. I love the look of your dinosaurs on Shapeways. Unfourtanatly I cannot order anything from them due to finacial issues. Do you plan on trying to release some of them In resien form?
