Those photos are very flattering, and I'm glad it doesn't have that weird glossy shine to it that was in some of the other ones. Kudos to Forest Rogers.

I received my new Carnegie Rex today.

The head sculpt is the best I've seen o na piece to date. Big, round and robust..looks a LOT like STAN to me.  Arms and legs look good if a bit closer to the gracile type than a more thicker bodied animal..but that works for the type it appears to be. Hips look right, rib cage is rounded and nice.   You could argue this one represents STAN and the previous Ann. Rex was more like SUE I think.

Possibly, but I think Sue would've been still in crates awaiting preparation when the anniversary T.rex was sculpted.  The head on it reminds me as much of the AMNH T.rex.

I don't see anything to indicate it, but I'd like to think the new figure was modelled after the actual Carnegie T.rex (which was remounted a few years back and is the original T.rex, the holotype).

Although I can see similarities to Stan.  It also reminds me quite a bit of Samson, which was prepared at the Carnegie Museum.  I believe those are the two skulls with the least amount of distortion, so it'd make sense to use either for reference.

I notice the tail looks a bit short, compared to the previous version.  Tyrannosaurs do have shorter tails, so this may be more accurate.

The detailing isn't as crisp, but it looks to be sculpted with more nuance and subtlety, whereas before we had a lot of stamped on scales.  Even if T.rex was bald, it presumably evolved from feathered ancestors, so probably wouldn't have had an overly scaly look.

Teeth are too straight, in my opinion. In this diagram you can see the teeth gently curve back.

And yes, I am nitpicky about things like this.

I'd be nitpicky if it were a larger model.  It's damn hard to do teeth at that scale, and even if the sculpt is perfect it can be ruined all too easily with a slight mold distortion.

Sad to say, all these pictures of the new TRex are even more disappointing than the promo shots.  Now we know that the legs below the knees are too skinny from every angle.

In addition, the head is slightly twisted and turned sideways - this seems to be something of a Rogers trademark.  And one that I personally do not like one bit.

Not going to be getting this one I am afraid ...

I wonder how long it's going to be before this Tyrannosaurus rex is available in European stores :) I can't wait.

Not if he doesn't think so. Personally I don't think it is as good at it could or should have been but I quite like it. The head on it looks fantastic and where recent models are concerned it is the best Tyrannosaurus I've seen in awhile.

My feelings exactly.

T-rex does look good, despite the lack of texture details (glazed surface), but it almost looks like it has a ventral hernia  ???

Given how skinny it looks, maybe it's just loss of muscle tissue? ;)

But seriously the poor thing looks a little starved--where is the massive muscle at the base of the tail?

Are the toe nails the same color as the rest of the body? I know if they are they can be painted but still...that's kinda lazy. Not on the sculptors part of course.

The toenails on the Anniversary rex aren't painted either...

In the pictures you can somewhat see what I am referring to. but the toe claws are a similar color to the body, simply a darker shade perhaps. It just looks kinda....off to me is all. The solid white glaring teeth are more problematic to me however.

Haven't the teeth on Carnegies always been white?
Can't remember and I'm away from my Carnegie stuff.

Finally, I 'm really tempted by the monolophosaurus because he looks very better than on the pictures. Of course, He looks more terrible >:D

I don't have that one so I was not aware of that. A minor quibble I suppose.

Blade-of-the-Moon

The toe nails on my new Rex are a grey color that almost blends in with the body.  The Ann. Rex toes are black on my two..it looks like that went over it with an airbrush and hit the toe nails and most of the toes as well.

Teeth can be white or off white..though the I'm pretty sure the connective jaw tissue shouldn't be white. ;)

Thanks for the pics!

Other than the head I am just not impressed. It feels like it should be a lot smaller with the lack of detail. I wish the Carnegie collection would be able to push more interesting poses and a higher level of detail, but I imagine Safari is making the call there.

No offense, but did you really need to quote the whole post? It's annoying to scroll through :-\

I don't like the T. rex :(. Carnegie is disappointing once again.
I cannot understand how Mrs. Rogers can make this. She has been doing the best Dinosaur Toy figures for years, but stopped to do so last year. Something must have happened.
They'd better sell it unpainted :-\ ;D. What a bad job!

I would have never thought that Wild Safari would once become Safari's better Dinosaur line.

I don't think it's Forest Rogers' fault. She's more than capable of giving us a beautiful dinosaur sculpture, so she wouldn't just stop doing so for no reason. It must be something to do with Carnegie or Safari. Perhaps they're trying to cut costs by using a different casting material, one that doesn't preserve details so well? :( That's the only reason I can think of.
