Thanks to Dan, I just received the new Rex, Mono, and Pachy. Some quick comments. I really like the Rex. It's one of the best out there. My figures claws are painted gray and don't look bad. I do agree that the fleshy part of the jaws don't look quite right painted white.  The paint job on the Mono is dull and unimaginative.  It could be a it more colorful. The crest on the skull just blends in too much. My favorite of the three is the Pachy. I think it is  better than the Papo. Really fine detail on it. Overall some fine additions to any collection. Thanks Dan!

The Battat Rex is certainly still the best..I'm pretty partial to their Trike as well.   I compared the two Rexes, Anniversary and this new one and I honestly think if they had taken the head from the new Rex and placed it on the old one it would have been MUCH more impressive...maybe tweaked the pose too.  I also noticed I paid a bit more for this new one compared to the Ann. Rex..which is overall larger. :?  ..and the paint apps are worse. 11.00 VS 19.00 or there about.

I wish the teeth came out a bit better.

My take on it is that the anatomy and overall proportions seem more accurate for the most part.  The arms are certainly a big improvement.

From some angles it looks terrific.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Yeah the teeth are an issue ..a good wash would really help them look detailed.

There is something to be said for the anatomy..though it's not as robust a specimen as I would have preferred.

I just wish it had been about the same size , amount of detail , and the paint apps could be at least as good as the Ann. Rex.

sauroid

except for the minor flaws, that rex is very beautiful.

I'm thinking of breaking out some epoxy and feathering this guy .  ;)

Let's see I did promise pics..the weather here has been terrible though but here's what I have :

Thanks for the pics.
From what I see, the new Tyrannosaurus doesn't scale well with Giganotosaurus and Spinosaurus.
That is not good news for me.

I think it scales about right :

The previous Ann. Rex was larger but it would have to be a really big specimen.  I thik it was said it was more like 1:35 than 1:40

Why is Spinosaurus always given such a long tail? An adaptation for swimming? Do we even have its tail verts?

No idea. I think it's an estimation based the skeleton's of other theropods.  I'm not sure of the validity of that image above..but it shows about what the figures look like compared to each other.

amargasaurus cazaui

One thing to remember when scaling the Carnegie Spinosaurus is the true length of the animal is unknown and subject to debate...some say fifty feet, others as low as 35 or 40 feet. There just is not enough skeletal material to judge the actual length except based on scaling against other theropods, and the holotype was of course lost long ago.
When the model was released Everything Dinosaur did a review and stated themselves the figure could be scaled at 1/40 or as widely as 1/17 scale depending on how you figure the size of the actual animal. Given the tremendous amount of difference in the reconstructions, it makes this a thankless task.
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen

Scott Hartman did a more up to date skeletal of Spinosaurus. Apparently the sail goes further back than we thought.

Here's the link that describes the change in ideology.

And I think the Giganotosaurus holotype is only about 12.2m. Roughly the same length as Sue.

Scott also did a really nice article talking about variance in an species.  Some could had longer, some shorter tails.

It does pair up with the Giga at the least...their heads are almost the same size.

Fifty feet?! That's way too small! If Discovery Channel has taught me anything, it's that Spinosaurus grew well past a hundred feet!

Look at that Spinosaurus with a full-grown Rugops in its jaws!

In all seriousness though...

I used to organize my figures by scale, but due to the things discussed here, I stopped. The real size of the dinosaurs aren't certain, and often times my calculations would result with inconsistent ratios. My 1:40 shelf had anything from 1:30 to 1:50, because it would've been too much of a hassle to organize each thing individually.
Now I organize by relation to one another, which also helps me remember which ones I have.

To each their own I guess - that's what makes collecting dinosaur figures so interesting though, everyone has their own unique collection.

Blade-of-the-Moon

lol i organize in several different ways ...company, theropods, sauropods, ..just all sorts.

I don't like the T. rex :(. Carnegie is disappointing once again.
I cannot understand how Mrs. Rogers can make this. She has been doing the best Dinosaur Toy figures for years, but stopped to do so last year. Something must have happened.
They'd better sell it unpainted :-\ ;D. What a bad job!

I would have never thought that Wild Safari would once become Safari's better Dinosaur line.
While I like the Wild Safari Dinos line (somes, especially the new Suchomimus, are lovely),they definetely don't have the grace and beauty Carnegie's figures have.
Carnegie's the best brand in the world, along with Papo IMO.

I have too many things on my mind to hate a tv show I could turn off..lol but I get your point.  I just had it on while I was working so I didn't catch much replying...and hey, a day watch bad dinosaurs is still better than a day without them at all right  ?  ;)
