Agreed on all points.  Though the sculpt of the head looks really good...which is where the CollectA fails. Seeing as it's jaws are " broken " to fit the prey item in there.  I do like the detail of the CollectA piece though.

ITdactyl

hmmm... and here I actually enjoyed looking at your pictures - and think that it's a nice looking rex.

"Really, I am not aware of any animals with pure lily-white gums?"

Cottonmouth snakes!

My living room smells like old plastic dinosaur toys... Better than air freshener!

I wouldn't mind the colour of the gums so much if it wasn't so sloppily painted...last year's Concavenator also had sloppy paintwork.

The paint around the larger areas isn't bad...but the more detailed ones like the teeth and lips are horrible, and look like something you'd expect from a Geoworld figure.

Gwangi

The last picture with the three Carnegie theropods together really show how far downhill Carnegie has gone the last few years, at least in terms of paint application. The Spinosaurus and Carnotaurus both look great.

I actually patterned my allosaurus's mouth after one..just a few pink highlights.  The Rex though isn't blended well enough to really make it work.

Another disappointing Carnegie figure then. Honestly, what happened to this line?! It went from the premiere dinosaur museum line to this...

Just because a company has had a bad year (2013) it doesn't mean it's dropped the good quality.I don't understand how can people dislike this, really  ???

We've seen a dip in quality for two consecutive years. Compare the Giganotosaurus from a few years back and you'll see a difference in paintwork. For what we are paying for them, we expect better. Usually I would defend Carnegie models to my last breath, but even I can't deny that this one is a bit of a disappointment.

sauroid

great sculpt, poor paint app = recent Carnegies
"you know you have a lot of prehistoric figures if you have at least twenty items per page of the prehistoric/dinosaur section on ebay." - anon.

CityRaptor

Pretty much.  As long as that trend does not continue, it should not be a problem in the future. I think it is however made worse due to low number of new figures coming out each year.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

I would actually extend that to the last three years. The Brachiosaurus is a nice sculpt but again, the paint application is not as good as previous releases. It was also the only one released that year and the switch to a smaller size was a disappointment too. It would have made a great companion to the Diplocodus they recently produced that was in the 1:40 scale we had all hoped the Brachiosaurus would be in.

2009 ~ Spinosaurus, Tylosaurus
2010 ~ Cryolophosaurus, Ichthyosaurus
2011 ~ Carnotaurus, Miragaia

Those are all awesome sculpts, 1st class rubber toy figures in my opinion! Even on par with the best Japanese models out there!
Those were awesome Carnegie years, I could not wait what they were offering the next year :)!
By this measure my excitement keeps within reasonable limits nowadays.

A company is truly in a crisis if it can't keep up its own level.
Wake up! The Carnegie Collection is in a mess!
Give Forest Rogers a free hand in sculpting the next models!    (..... and please hire a new painting staff, have you checked the Japanese employment market ^-^?)

I'm only comparing Carnegie with themselves.
They have to acquiesce in that :).

I agree. Though the Brachiosaurus was great too. After that things started going downhill.

The pose isn't as big a problem as the paint. I'm not fond of the tripod pose either, but I'm fine with it as long as they up the paint app.

Yeah, I would choose tripod over clown feet. Forest Rogers is very talented, but her talent is not given a chance to shine through as much as it should.

Yes, it was and yes, they did :).
I should have mentioned the Brachiosaurus as well.

To put things in perspective, Carnegie only has to make ONE good figure per year.  We're not asking for much, really.

The 2014 T-rex has a case of the "sleep" on its mouth. Wonderful.

amanda

I still aim to get the Brachio. But, what scale is it then? The Kinto Favorite was 1/70. The Wild Sasfari was larger..1/50-ish? So what is the new Carnegie Brachio. The Tamiya and Papo are 1/35 or so. So it is not that big nor as small as the WS....

I have seen the Rex twice now, walked around with it. It is **small**, and really unimpressive. I do not think I will get it. This will be two years in a row then, with no Carnegie and only 1 WS in my collection that are new...?
