photobucket users: what happened to PB? it's been down for a long time.

I intend to remove all mentions of Photobucket from the 'how to post images' instructions; I can no longer recommend such a terrible service.
i agree. what is the best photo hosting site/s out there?

Postimage, 100%! I've long since abandoned PB. Postimage is super simple to use. I'd never use anything else.

I switched from Photobucket to Flickr last year. Flickr tries its damnedest to embed links to itself when you use your photos on a site like this, but with some minor editing you can get rid of all that. It is reliable in the sense that I have yet to see any downtime. On the other hand, it is a Yahoo service and they have famously suffered major data breaches. Thankfully, none of my dinosaur photos constitutes sensitive content. Also huge: Flickr doesn't have the obtrusive, browser-crippling advertisements of Photobucket. I haven't tried postimage so I can't compare the two.

I'm using Flickr without problems.
The "linking" procedure is a little bit tricky but it works..
:)

Relevant discussion from our sister site. For reference, the Bug of the Day thread is truly massive... and now completed.

I use tinypic. Though i wish we had ways to upload directly.

I started to use postimage recently and it's good, easy and it works better for me tha  photobucket.

i agree, like fb. the reason why im so lazy these days to post pics on forums is because of the hassle of transferring files to photo hosting sites.

yes i started using postimage too, although i wonder if they also store pics like photobucket...

Really need a way to upload pics directly. Image host tiny pic not working.

Thank you for sharing this!  Just tried it and Postimage is massively less annoying than AddBucket PhotoBucket!  :))

Apologies to everyone, but I just noticed that apparently most of the images I have attached to my posts using a free image hosting service (http://imgsafe.org/) are now broken. Can't remember exactly which pictures were, so I can't go back and find them again to re-upload and fix all my posts. Must change method then.

Apparently Photobucket hosting service has been temporarily disabled and a big part of DTF is without pictures now..  :-[

I had an e-mail from them overnight saying that their free service doesn't allow third party hosting.  To get third party hosting, I need to upgrade (i.e. and pay).  I wondered initially if it was a fraudulent e-mail but as the images have disappeared, perhaps not.

ceratopsian

And I've just found out on-line that the restriction on 3rd-party hosting is new from 28 June, with no advance warning given.  The asking price is a whopping $399 a year.  Needless to say, I won't be paying that much!!

I  was also asked to pay $399 to go on with my account. It seems my time of posting pictures here is over :'(.
Yes, I could start another account elsewhere, but what about the hundreds of photos already posted?
Too much work to bring them back. It has been a great time, but I quit. It's very frustrating. Bye bye Beautiful Dinosaur mix - R.I.P.

EDIT: My opinion about this has been updated here.

ceratopsian

It must be devastating for you, Postsaurischian. I think Photobucket assumes that we are all hosting our images to sell things. But many, many hobby sites must be wrecked. Please, please continue to post images in the future, even if the past is lost. Your photos are amazing. It's such a privilege to be able to share your enjoyment of your glorious collection.

You know, Blaine on ATF had to redo a bunch of his Bug of the Days when the hosting site went defunct for some reason. Hundreds of photos... but he was able to get them all up again in not an inordinate amount of time thanks to Postimage. It really is that user-friendly. I really hope you try that with some and see. We'd hate to lose you.

and it is funny to recall that an old man got mad at me on facebook for reporting that photobucket had "kicked the bucket" (not literally) and said i was full of cr*p (words to that effect). i wonder if he just had a major cardiac arrest when he found out that his photobucket pics are practically useless now.

So what's the best hosting service to use? One that doesn't require you to register and pay and that doesn't delete your images randomly whenever they want.

I'm so sorry to hear that, your Collection thread was inspiring and well, Beautiful. It's a shame whats happening but I hope you can "start new" from here. It's really upsetting all of this.

I'm currently using postimage and it's good, I started using PB when I joinend here and my pics are still working , I don't know if they will "kick the bucket" eventually too??
