[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?

If I had known your dinosaurs were scratch built I would have thrown a vote your way. I just assumed they were purchased which is a compliment to your work. Neat idea with the flashlight as well.

Dinomike

Thanks everybody for the kind comments! I had a lot of fun making this diorama. I wanted  to create an entire Late Cretaceous scenery from scratch. I got inspired by old movies and how they achieved their effects without any computers. I also wanted to create my version of the much-loved T-Rex - a version that would go well with the scenery and look familiar and yet new. (I did have good models for reference as shown in earlier pics:) I thought of many ways for creating asteroid. For example I thought of carving a hole in the cardboard backround and then creating some sort of see-trough asteroid out of plastic and illuminating it from the backside. It was only by chance I discovered that, hey, flashlight will do the same with no extra work whatsoever!

So, here's my Spinosaurus! I made it based on Nizar Ibrahim and his team's research and reconstructions. I used the October 2014 issue of National Geographic for reference. I was thoroughly impressed by Davide Bonadonna's artwork and got inspired to sculpt this 1:50 scale creature. I wanted to depict it swimming so I also built a base for it to suggest it's immersed in water. As the figure can be easily removed from the stand I will later build a larger diorama with actual see-through water surface. So stay tuned for more Spinosaurus action in the future!

I am speechless, that looks awesome.

Dinomike

Thanks Pascosaur and Iaticauda! The Spino is actually not that shiny in real lif. Will try to take better pics in the near future. I'm also considering making a swimmer in 1:50 scale for size reference. I realized that the snout alone is as long as a full grown man! So we're really talking about a great beast!
