Curse me and never having my camera on me...My husband and I were walking around the mall yesterday and when we went into the Toys R Us "express" store, there in the back were some dinosaur toys all being Schleich knock offs. It was their green raptor (in the exact same colors), their Allosaurus that had about 4 different colors on it, all mixed together in an air-brush attempt, and their Stegosaurus, which was belly up.
All but maybe four of the boxes were in poor shape, and by that I mean the dinosaurs weren't twisty-tied to the back. The boxes were made of some really cheap and really thin cardboard.

I spotted this at Wal-Mart this morning and did a double take. Is this an original toy, or a knock off of Schleich's Giganotosaurus?

That huge seam and the weird Chap Mei knock-off guy (who would have seen that coming?) are major clues.

LophoLeeVT

It's not that much worse from the atrocious Schleich Giganotosaurus where it's copied from. Haha

Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

This one's kind of funny.

From Safari Ltd., of all companies?

This particular sculpt is quite similar to the Tamiya T.rex 1/35 kit.  You be the judge.

Is this actually made by Safari or just distributed by them?

It's a Safari product--along with a White Shark and Crocodile.

Pylraster - Its a GREAT toy, one that was made in the late 1990s.  The jaw-snapping action is awesome for the kids! First I recall seeing it was in the Dallas Natural History Museum Store about 1999 ...

That doesn't answer my question. Keep in mind that companies do not neccesarily produce everything they distribute, as was seen with the Carnegie Collection, which was distributed by Schleich in Germany. Safari also seemings distributed Invicta in 1990: http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=379.msg33058#msg33058
Also notice the Chinasaurs!

I'm not fully sure what you are trying to determine. It's stamped Safari, and comes in Safari branded packaging. If someone else is making them, those are likely the rip-offs. Safari makes a wide range of not-figures products, including things like rulers and bug boxes (most in the Safariology line). Snapping-jaw animals isn't really outside their realm of products.

The snapping jaw guy has been around along time I think Safari ltd started selling it after JP 1 came out.  Could be a case of in stock but not in production.
You can never have too many dinosaurs

I was just asking if Safari is actually the producer or just distributor. If the figure is actually stamped Safari, then they are the producer. Can be seen with Carnegies, which may have Schleich on their tag, but are not stamped Schleich on the figure itself. So people who do not know it will not call them Schleichs, unless they are those ignorant cretins who call everything Schleich. They will either call them properly or worst: No Name.

Here is the Tamiya kit:

I don't know if it was Safari who made or distributed the snapping jaw one. It would be an interesting twist if the Tamiya kit was the ripoff, but it's unlikely.

I own knock-offs of the safari authentics line. I will try and find them somewhere.

"Ugly Duckling"

I got some dinos from flea market. At first didn't recognize this familiar face. But then it struck me. The yellow guy is a copy of Schleich. A bit bigger(15 cm in length) than original 12 cm.
