I've been too lazy to post my entry here for the diorama contest but I'm finally getting around to it.

Family of the Forest

This didn't quite turn out the way I wanted - it was intended to be shot in a creek, but as you can tell the rain was a long time coming. The Shane Foulkes Hypacrosaurus was largely based on a cassowary's colours and the Collecta Corythosaurus (filling in for babies) are painted after hatchling cassowaries. In the foreground is a Science and Nature Bandicoot taking on the role of a primitive mammal.
The ferns in the immediate background were an artificial pot plant I cut up and threaded onto toothpicks stuck in the ground. It's hard to tell because of the harsh light but there are a couple of Schleich fir trees in there too, along with various Collecta trees. The location was picked mostly because of the cretaceous suitable pine trees in the background and I think it worked out well. Most of the flora around here is quintessentially modern Australian and immediately recognisable.
I stupidly underestimated the prominence of a barbed wire cow fence in the background and had to painstakingly paint it out in Windows Paint - also used to create to the (admittedly cheesy)Pterosaurs in the sky.
Well that's the story of my first entry in the Diorama Contest and I was pleasantly surprised to get an Honourable Mention. I've already got plans for next year's competition - can't wait!

Here is the Shane Foulkes Hypacrosaurus.
In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.

Oh, I forgot to add one of the chicks is a Collecta Tsintaosaurus whose spike I'd cut off and replaced with a crest made of Greenstuff.

Ah yes, this was one of the ones I voted for! We don't see enough baby dinosaurs in models, so I liked how you utilised the CollectAs. The colour schemes on them remind me of baby wild boar or tapirs.

That's what I was thinking too.

Here's my contest entry for this year's diorama shindig (a bit late to post this but I was playing around on photobucket)
Lambeosaurus on the Lam.

I kinda messed it up in that the first photo I took was completely washed out by the fire, it just looked like an atomic blast, and I fumbled the second pic trying to get the camera to click before the fire went out. I entered it anyway hoping my mistake would be interpreted as motion blur.

Or a cassowary chick for that matter.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Well, I didn't interpret it as motion blur, but despite the comparably poor photogrpahic quality I voted for it anyway as I like the figure used (added it a few months back to my own collection aswell), the idea and it's conversion and last but not least the pun (if there was any, I am no native English speaker so excuse if this was just my interpretation)

Thanks for the vote! I should've re-shot the scene, but I blew about thirty dollars on sparklers and I guess I didn't want it to go to waste. I'll pick a more stationary topic next year.

And yeah, the pun was intentional. :)

Didn't know where else to put this so I'm resurrecting another extinct thread of mine. And I might as well get back into photographing random nonsense and revive this thread properly. Also, don't bother trying to look at old posts here - anything before this was lost in the Great Photobucket Meltdown.

Anyhoo, This is my Devonian Aquarium Setup.

Will they eat flakes or do they demand live food? I don't see a tank of feeder goldfish, but might just be out of frame...

Interesting way to display your aquatics. I suppose one could rotate others in the collection through the tank whenever the desire arose to do so. Or get a bigger tank ... .

They eat guppies, snails, shrimp and the occasional fingertip...

I'd like to see others have a go at a display like this, I think it could be an interesting trend. Also, I had a couple of CollectA mini tube ammonites and trilobites in there, but they looked too artificial next to the wonderful PNSO Dunkleosteus.

I wonder if there might be products from some of the Japanese companies that would be of sufficient quality to fit the bill. You might check out avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres ' collection thread to see if something catches your eye. Also, maybe a repaint of the CollectA minis would help?

Yeah, I guess some Kaiyodo figures might work.

Those Dinichtys look like real catfish!

Halichoeres

I keep Kaiyodo's Rayonnoceras and Cladoselache on the same shelf as my PNSO Dunk. Cladoselache was an actual contemporary, and while Rayonnoceras wasn't, similar animals would have been around.

I have actually fooled some people with photos.

Thanks for the options! Though if PNSO releases any more fish of this quality (Rhizodus for example) that aquarium will fill up pretty quick!

Rhizodus would be amazing. A nerd can dream.
