Here's a set I did with a dodgied up diorama - Chase Amongst the Termite Mounds.

Looks like I took the wrong turn at Albuquerque...

Texas Floodplains

Nice day to be an Ankylosaurus

My favourite Archosaur sign. I wanted to use my Maisasaura here, but too many people around. Too embarrassed to lug around a big wooden dinosaur.
In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.

Tyto_Theropod

These are great as usual - I especially like the Alamosaurus and the Ankylosaur. :) Queensland is certainly a great place to take dinosaur photos!

Thanks a lot! There's such a wide variety of landscapes here to use and so far I've not gone too far for my cheapness in spending fuel. There's a lot more places of exceptional beauty I'll have to try and get in here. I'm still thinking of getting a better camera that can capture more detail, but not sure if it's worth it...

wahh amazing...i love the sauropod and parasaurolophus...

Thanks, the first Parasaurolophus pic was taken during a cyclone, but the wind kept knocking it over. The one photo I did get just wasn't worth it - nothing but a grey background.

Nice photos, really dig the Chase Amongst the Termite Mounds series.

Thanks, I should've put more effort into it, though. That was just the result of five minutes with a bunch of clay! Got the idea from that Planet Dinosaur documentary where the Allosaurus pursues a Camptosaurus in a similar setting.

Great shots, did you Photoshop the wound?

Now that is my kind of beach, have you any wild Crocodile shots to share on the http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=29.0 nature photo thread?

Thanks! Nah, just squished some blu-tac on to make a ragged shape and splashed some red food colouring on.

Nah, they're kinda shy here, but I'll try. You mostly see them at night and all you get in a photo is the red reflection of their eyes. There's one creek in particular I go to see them, and I have used various methods to get them to approach, from bait to baby croc calls but they just seem to take one look, see a clown mucking about on the bank and leave again. I've actually managed to get within touching distance of a 1.5 metre croc by leaning over the steep bank but it just took off like a rocket, then resurfaced further down the creek. Pretty dumb, but couldn't help myself. I dream of getting a photo of one with my wooden Hadrosaur cutouts for a Deinosuchus scene. There's a few around in the 4 metre mark that could work if I set up the shot well enough. I'll have a look on the weekend - I'd love to get some photos of crocs and other wildlife (like Brolgas and dingoes) to share here. I'd planned on driving North to Cape Hilsborough NP to shoot my new Hypacrosaurus Cutout and that Creek's nearby.

Probably your best bet in the day is in a boat, if you can brave it. I have lots of shots of alligators from my trips to the southern USA and I know in some places they are pretty used to tourists but when I got shots of the really wild ones in the back waters it was from a boat and you would catch them sunning on a bank. Of course when you got too close they would crash into the water then you would get their heads when they popped back up. I got these two shots of an old female American Crocodile at the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge in Florida. She was a real sensation because she was 129 miles north of where she should be. When the wildlife officials finally showed up and admitted to the Refuge staff that they had a croc they caught her and took her back to the Keys. A few months later she popped right back up in her favourite spot. They figured like a lot of Floridians she was retired and wanted to get away from family so now they let her be. The canal she is sunning on was about 12 feet across and she also looked every bit of 12 feet. I was about 5 feet from the edge of the water so I had one foot at the ready pointing away from her if she decided I looked tasty.  I had some brush between me and her to slow her down hopefully. Her being an ambush predator I figured I was safe. There is a shot online of her chomping down on a small alligator. It was thrilling to be this close to something wild and so magnificent.

P.S. We saw her in 2007, just read online that she first showed up in the 1980s and passed away in 2010 apparently from cold stress and measured out at 11'8" so I wasn't far off with my estimate. It's a shame she is gone.

They're my favourite animals - I love being around them. You get a real sense of majesty, menace and power. Probably more so here because we don't have any large land based predators (I find the idea of bears and big cats absolutely terrifying). You're braver than me though - I have a kayak, but there's no way I'd paddle around in crocodile water. I usually just trek through the mangroves with a spotlight. Those are some absolutely beautiful shots by the way. I plan on travelling to the top of my state one day where they're more common - I live in the Mackay region, which is approaching the southern extent of their range. So, although they're in almost every place you'd expect to find a crocodile, they're not super abundant. Funny thing is after flooding from cyclones they usually wind up in the ponds in public parks in the middle of town, and it often takes Wildlife services months to catch and remove them. On a similar note, have you heard about a golf course near Brisbane that has Bull sharks in their water hazards? I'd hate to be the guy who has to fetch the balls.

Man you guys take "hazards" literally! The worst our golfers usually have to deal with is the odd deer or elk on the fairway.

Heh, heh. I don't care too much for golf but I'd love to see that course.

Hypacrosaurus

Kayakasaurus

Very beautiful.  :) I like the last one because the boulders give an idea of size. These are photoshop edits right? Scaled up with brightness adjusted to match the background. ;) the first one is the most convincing. Did you overlay some light/shadows to make it look like it was under trees blocking the sun?

Thanks! Nope, just wooden cut outs about 1:5 scale. No trickery here, it's all in camera. The only effects used were lighting and contrast fixes. Same as the previous photos with the Maiasaura, the larger scale of the figures works well in natural settings.

Wow that's really neat, I think I'm going to have to try that. I knew something was up with the photo :)) it's 2D duh.

I'd like to see what you come up with - I was hoping this'd catch on. I'm not a very good artist so I'm hoping some of the really talented folks here give this a shot. Then we'll get a real show! Like I said in a previous post this is a real cheap and easy hobby. The MDF boards I use are only about $4, and the paint's just cheap acrylic tubes. I'd like to make them bigger but they still have to fit in the car! Two metres might be the limit.
